I have Literacy Night coming up this Tuesday, October 1, 2013. I wanted to give a little extra thank you to those that are giving their time to support the event. So I made 60 of these... I found the directions to make these little clipboards on the interent somewhere but don't know exactly where. So you will have to settle for my little how to. These are the materials I needed I got the binder clips and note pads at the Dollar Tree for $1.00 each, permanent tape runner for $1.99 at JoAnn's, the 8 pack coasters at Target for $1.00 and scrapbook paper. First, I cut 4"x4" squares from the paper and 1/2" x 1 1/4" strips. I attached the paper square to the coaster with the tape runner and cut off the corners. Then I sanded the edges of the paper around the coaster. After that, I attached the small strip of paper to the binder clip and the clip to the coaster. Finally, I added the note pad and... SUPER easy and cute, if I say so myself! Have a GREAT week!

It's hard to believe it's already that time of the year again! The End of the Year Countdown is on and I wanted to share some EASY and inexpensive student gifts for the end of the year! Let's get this party started!!!! And, at only $3.88 for a pack of 6 these Bubble Sticks from Wal-Mart are an AMAZING deal! I am giving my sweet students these bubble sticks this year and I am going to personalize them using my Silhoutte Cameo! Another option are these adorable popsicle bubble blowers from Dollar Tree! Sand Buckets make a great end of the year gift because they can be used to hold ANYTHING! My own kids play with sand buckets all the time for anything and everything, not just at the beach! I gave my students each a sand bucket a few years ago and personalized them with their names! You could also put some fun items inside! You can find these anywhere, but I found some great deals at Dollar Tree and Michaels! My kids LOVE water bottles and the great thing about these is how easy they are to find for pretty cheap! I found these ones at Dollar Tree and last year I personalized them for each of my students using my Silhouette! I've also seen great options at Michaels and Hobby Lobby! When I was in third grade, my teacher gave my entire class a book for our end of the year gift. But, she didn't just give us any book. She picked out a different book for every single one of us that would mean something to that student. I STILL remember that gift, and I'm sure I still have the book in a box in my parent's attic. One simple little gift that has truly made an impact on my life! One year I hope to do that for each of my kids! It is definitely not a cheap idea, but one that might impact a future teacher! Books are ALWAYS a good idea to give! And, even if you don't want to choose a DIFFERENT book for every student, you can easily purchase a class favorite for the class! Make sure to check out the Scholastic teacher section for dollar deals, and if you are lucky enough to have a Scholastic Warehouse near you, their sales are AMAZING! When I was a little girl, I LOVED playing school! So, giving dry erase boards as an end of the year gift is always a good idea in my book! And, there are so many different options! I have these plastic trays and dry erase board paddles from Dollar Tree! But, you could also go to Home Depot and have them cut pieces of Shower Board for you! I did this my first year teaching and STILL have the same boards TEN years later!! It would also be cute to personalize the backs of the boards using a permanent marker! What kid doesn't LOVE sunglasses!? These are such a fun gift for the end of the year! These are also a pretty inexpensive gift and would make the cutest picture of your entire class wearing them all! You can grab these options from Dollar Tree! And, these NEON sunglasses are only $15 for a 24 pack on Amazon! I am all about some memories, so giving a picture frame with a class picture inside is a great gift idea in my book! I can just imagine this sweet little picture frame sitting on a night stand for years to come! And then maybe one day it'll be placed in a box and bring back lots of memories and smiles! I grabbed this little frame from Dollar Tree, so it was a great deal! I just love the idea of giving students beach balls at the end of the year! And, these work out perfectly because you can have your class sign each ball with a permanent marker as a fun little memento to keep for years to come! And, at only $1.00 a ball they make the perfect gift! You can find these at Dollar Tree! You can also grab this 12 pack of beach balls for under $10 on Amazon! For all those crafty teachers, I bet you could come up with something CUTE to put on a t-shirt! I'm thinking tie-dye or some Heat Transfer Vinyl! And then you could also have students sign the backs and have a sweet little gift that they can keep forever! You can grab this pack of t-shirts on Amazon! How FUN is sidewalk chalk during the summer!? My kids LOVE using sidewalk chalk at recess, so I know this would make a great end of the year gift that they could use at home! These 20 packs are only $1.00 at Dollar Tree!!! Because what kid doesn't LOVE candy!? This is always an easy idea! And you can get ANY kind of sweet treat! Gummy Bears are some of my favorite!!! I found these Krazy Straws at Dollar Tree and there are 6 in a pack for only $1.00! I mean, it doesn't get much cheaper than 16 cents per student! You could even add one of those packs of Kool Aid or Crystal Light to it to make it more fun! I also found these cute mini Krazy Straws at Hobby Lobby! Or, you can grab a 36 pack on Amazon for only around $7! So, I'm going to be completley honest and I HATE playdough! But, as much as I hate it kids absolutely LOVE it! Dollar Tree has TONS of options! They even have a 4-pack for only $1.00! This would make a great gift for primary grades! You could even send home a cute little list of things that they could use the playdough for to practice over the summer- letters, CVC words, sight words! Anything! And, for those fun and silly years how FUN would Silly Putty or Silly String be for a gift!? You can find both of these fun things on Amazon! I love the idea of paint and some paper or an art pad! As a mom of two, this would give kids something fun to do over the summer! Markers or crayons would also be a cute idea! And again, not expensive at all! I also found some large Art Pads at Dollar Tree for only $1.00! Because when it's all said and done, the years really do FLY BY! It always amazes me how fast the school year goes by! Frisbees are such a fun gift idea, and I think it would be super adorable to have your students sign each other's frisbee! So, I just LOVE when I find cute little plush toys to give to my kids! Especially when they aren't very expensive! How ADORABLE are these little plush fish that I found from Dollar Tree!? I love the whole o-FISH-ally theme and got super excited when I found them! And, these cute little caterpillars make the CUTEST little bookworms! I found these at Dollar Tree, too! I mean, how ADORABLE are these little plush fish from Oriental Trading!? They would make the cutest little gift with an O-FISH-ALLY tag! Or, these sweet little bears from Oriental Trading would make the sweetest gift for a BEARY sweet year! Pencils are always fun! But, personalized pencils are even better! How adorable are these pencils that you can grab from Oriental Trading!? Clipboards are always fun! The best part of these is they are a blank canvas and you can personalize them in different ways! You can add their names with vinyl, stickers, or a permanent marker! You could even write a special message on the back! And, if you wanted to you could add some summer review pages to the clipboard for students to practice over the summer! You can get a 30 pack on Amazon for around $30! One of my FAVORITE things we did on the last day of school was give our students this fun little Last Day of School Snack! It was such a fun way to end the year!! You could really use ANY candy for this and come up with cute little sayings for what they stand for! Just a FUN way to end the year in a positive way! I hope that you found some ideas for your end of the year gifts!!!! If you need a tag, you can grab my End of the Year Gift Tags in my TPT store! It has ALL the tags shown in this post, including the treat bag topper for the Last Day of School Snack! They come in color and black and white versions and you can personalize them in PowerPoint with your name! As the excitement to be third graders began to build, so did the nervousness for my class. I wanted our last week together to be a special one, to strengthen their confidence, and give my second graders a special send-off they'd never forget! Admittedly, I planned a busy week for us on top of an already busy week, but I managed to pull it off and my class loved every second of it! We worked on and off all week on our superhero memory books in between end of the year events and festivities. Not only did my kiddos write about the highlights of our year in their memory books but also the power of our words, kindness, laughter, friendship and respect. We made thank you cards and special awards for all of our parent helpers, office staff, and specials teachers. We even delivered them wearing our capes! I made these gifts to thank our volunteers. They were always just the JOLT we needed and we couldn't have done without their superpowers! I received lots of wonderful cards and precious treasures myself, too. "Girlfriend, you are the best." I love the sassy ones! They always give me a run for my money, but it's them I miss the most! During the week we talked about all we had accomplished and I gushed about how proud I was of them all. We made these super hero boys and girls and wrote all about our goals, accomplishments, and how we developed our learning superpowers. I gave each of my superheroes some special gifts. By Wednesday, it was time for our award ceremony! I made special Super Hero Awards for each of my students and pulled out my fake microphone. My class knows when I pull out the microphone something BIG is about to happen! One of my sweeties said, "This is like the kid Oscars!" "You bet!" I said. (Mission accomplished) Each of my superheroes was given one of these brag tags and I dramatically placed one around everybody's neck as they accepted their award. On our second to last day I surprised my students with this when they came in. Everybody took turns taking last day pictures by themselves and with their friends. Our last day of second grade had finally arrived. I gave each student a last day keepsake card with a special message inside. Now, I know this isn't a realistic life lesson, but in my room, with my class, on our last day of second grade, everybody wins. And everybody gets a trophy. water bottle trophies Click here to see 10 ways I give my students a SUPERHERO send-off they'll never forget! For more superhero themed ideas, be sure to check out my Superhero Classroom board on Pinterest! Happy summer teacher friends! I hope it's a time for you to rest, relax, and recharge!

At the beginning of each year, I send home a Parent Volunteer letter to my parents. I am fortunate enough to work in a school where parent volunteers are abundant. Even if some parents cannot come in and volunteer, I give them an opportunity to take projects home. Here's what my volunteer note looks like: Here's the form that gets attached, so that the parents can pick their time and how they'd like to help: I just want to show you how I organize what I want them to do {My teammate Jessica showed me this way}. I keep the items (lamination cut outs, cutting projects, or testing materials) in bins organized by days of the week. If a parent comes in on a Monday he/she can check the Monday bin to see if there is any work for them to do right when they come in. Sometimes I don't have anything in there, that means I have something more specific for them to do. * Don't forget to chat with your volunteers! I always say hello, ask how they are doing, and what not! It can get kind of hectic, but I always let them know how much I appreciate them. I also have volunteers who help from home. I send home a "work bag" with something I need for them to help me with. I include all the supplies needed with a note explaining what I need them to do and when I need it back to school by. Here's what the form looks like for my home volunteers: This is the bag I send home the project in. I usually give them at least a week. Then on my own personal spreadsheet I have all of my at home volunteers on a list. I make sure to mark by their name what I sent home and when it is due. This ensures the parent doesn't forget to send it in and I make sure that I am not sending home tons of stuff with just one parent. Quite a few of you wanted to see a Nursing Stocking Stuffers for your last minute holiday shopping. I’m not going to lie- I was dying to do this one too. Who doesn’t love a cute stocking stuffer?! Well, today I am sharing with you 25 nursing stocking stuffers ideas that as of today, December 19th, will still arrive BEFORE Christmas! Woot woot. Not sure how long they will be available for arrival before christmas so act fast if you want to include any of these in your loved ones stocking. This guide always works great if you want to get some nursing students or nursing co-workers small, thoughtful and/or some funny gifts too! Let’s jump into it. I don’t know what it is about these pens but I have been loving them. Not only are they super nice and classy but they write so smooth. They come in a pack of 6 so you can give all 6 to a loved one or give one to each nurse in their “stocking” or goodie bag. Plus, we all know nurses ALWAYS need pens! These mini highlighters can be attached to your badge reel. Uhhhh, yes please! Not only will it never get lost but you can highlight pending tasks, abnormal levels, things you need to tell the doctor, and more as you go with the comfort of it being on your badge. Great nursing stocking stuffers for sure. Now more than ever EVERYONE needs a small pocket lotion. Handwashing is constant in nursing and our hands can get pretty dry. Having some lotion really helps bring back moisture and the lavender sent of this particular cream helps us stay calm and relax during a busy, crazy shift. Another must have nursing stocking stuffers are these mini permanent markers that attach to your badge reel. Mini permanent markers are a necessity for nurses or nursing students. Honestly, I don’t even remember nursing life without a permanent marker and I don’t want to! This has transformed my life. I use permanent markers to mark my IV bags or to quickly write something down. These coloring pencils and coloring nursing book are awesome to not only help relax and disconnect but gives it a funny take on the life of a nurse. Fun meets relaxation in one book! I’m serious… coloring can be very therapeutic for many people. I love this. Thought this was a funny little “gag gift” for a nursing stocking stuffers idea but at the same time one of those gifts you get and actually use! hahaha… Nobody likes using the bathroom at work but have this handy and you won’t ever have to worry about someone going in right after you and you feeling embarrassed. It’s a great little stocking stuffer believe it or not. It fits right into your scrub pocket so no one knows you are taking it in with you. It’s also a great gift to buy for the unit in general. You can keep it in the bathroom and everyone can use it. If you want to add something with a little more value and thought to your nurse’s or nursing student’s stocking then this keychain says it all. Nursing is a work of heart… that is very true! This is perfect to add to keys, work keys (if this gift is for a nursing manager or any nurse that carries keys) or a nurse who might want to add it to a badge reel as well. These headbands are perfect for nurses and nursing students to get their hair out of their face. Last thing we want is our hair to touch the patient while we are performing a skill or assessment. Am I right?! Especially in our current pandemic it is crucial to have these headbands. The great thing about them is they actuall have buttons so you can tie your mask around! Must have gift. How cute are these badge reels? I love them! I’ve included a set of 3 incase you want to get a few different styles or if you just want to add a single one in that stocking! Reels are always needed even if your nurse friend or nursing student already has one. Another cute stocking stuffer are these medical themed socks. Everyone loves fun socks but nurses… we REALLY love fun socks (especially if you work in pediatrics!) Fun socks for the WIN. This is such a cute idea. A chapstick holder for your badge so you can remember to hydrate and not look like a dehydrated zombie… hahahah okay jk. But it is a super cute idea! Add in a chapstick or lip balm of your choice to complete this awesome nursing stocking stuffers gift. Hey! Nurses can have fun too… Love these can coozies for any nurse who enjoys a drink after their long shift. This works awesome for sodas or juices that come in a can too! Okay, so I’m a huge fan of nurse pouches. I have so many things I can use them for. Number 1- every nurse needs a personal pouch for their personal things (if you know what I mean). I’m talking about tampons, pads, or any emergency equipment you might need during your shift. These pouches can also serve as a quick makeup bag incase you want to touch up during your shift (we still have to look somewhat put together lol) or as a pen/ supplies pouch. You can put your penlight, pens, and maybe even your stethoscope in here. More fun pens AND erasable highlighter! These are so cute… they have a syringe look in different colors. Pens that give you different messages and erasable highlighter? I have NEVER heard of that in my life. That sounds like a pretty unique and cool gift. I think it’s a fun way to celebrate nursing. Okay, so this is probably one of my favorites. Nursing themed scrunchies. OMG! These are adorable and great for a quick stocking stuffer. Every nurse with long hair needs a scrunchie. Super unique and great buy for a nurse or nursing student. These little pocket notebooks are great for new nurses and nursing students who are still learning a lot and jotting things down. Actually, it’s perfect for any nurse! What I like about it is that nursing students can jot down any question they have so they don’t forget or information for their care plans. The great thing about this is it is POCKET SIZED so it fits comfortable inside your scrub pocket. We love pocket sized supplies in nursing. And last but not least, I just had to add this life hacks calendar. How cool is this calendar that literally gives you daily life hacks?! I love this. I’m always trying to find life hacks or any tips and tricks to make life easier. Although this is the only item that doesn’t arrive BEFORE christmas I had to share it because I got so excited when I saw it. Maybe you will too… Well friends… that’s all I’ve got for you today and I think they were some pretty great nursing stocking stuffers in here. What would YOU like to get as a stocking stuffer gift? Do you have any other ideas? Share them with our fam below! ’till next time, The RN Educator
