Over the past five years I have been battling an addiction. Yes readers I have succumbed to the boomerang-like charms of the Snelling chair. I should actually correct myself and say 'chairs' as I have three profiles ranging from the simple dining, a covetable armchair, and finally the languorous lounge piece shown in the photo above. Douglas Snelling (1917 - 1985) is another Australian designer with a remarkable and indeed tangible legacy. His pieces sit proudly in the Powerhouse Museum Collection and are regularly featured throughout editorial stories in interiors publications. His unique spin on re-using parachute webbing at the end of the Second World War pre-empted industrial recycling. I have restored and re-webbed many of his chairs in a diverse range of hues. They hunker down nicely in any setting involving 1950's style furniture or graphic fabric prints. To me they always have a 'welcome home' appeal. The way the fabric molds itself to you belies it's simple wooden substructure. One word of warning to those considering putting one in a sunny corner of your home. I have another chair identical to the one shown above which resided in my Sydney store for some four months. The webbing went from a rich red to peach after a daily dose of sunshine. I have a set that I'm re-webbing for my dinner table in the spring. I'll show my progress with this DIY adventure as it gets underway. I may even share some tips from my sensational upholsterer! Now that Christmas is just a few weeks away, I can officially start getting ready for the holiday! I spent the weekend tackling little projects that I've been looking forward to, including these Cinnamon Gift Tags and Ornaments. I'm sure you've seen these before - they're like cinnamon cookies that you don't eat, but they last forever and smell delicious! 1. Admittedly, I hadn't made these cinnamon ornaments/tags before, so after some Internet research I found a recipe that seemed ideal: cinnamon (of course), ground cloves, ground nutmeg, applesauce (really?!) and glue (I don't have white glue lying around, I I substituted with some modge podge). If you want the exact recipe, I've included it below! 2. According to the recipe, I measured all the ingredients and poured them into an old bowl. I was a little nervous that the project woudn't clean up well, so I used old utensils, etc.... but I was pleased to learn that everything cleaned up without an issue- what a relief! 3. After a bit of mixing (I found it was easier to just use my hands), the dough came together. 4. So I sprinkled some cinnamon on my counter top, and prepared to roll out the dough with a rolling pin. Once the dough was an even thickness, I cut out my ornament and tags using a cookie cutter. I wanted some of my holiday gifts/decorations this year to represent my Swedish heritage, so I used a Dala Horse cookie cutter. And in order to make the holes for my ornaments/tags, I used a plain, ol' drinking straw to punch holes in the dough. In no time at all, I had cut all the dough and put it on cookie sheets lined with foil. Then I placed the pans in a warm oven for several hours to dry out. Once they were dry (and my apartment smelled amazing), I couldn't wait to see how my tags/ornaments had turned out. I grabbed some ribbon to hang the ornaments... And threaded some ribbon through the tags to decorate some holiday packages. This was a really fun and easy project that I hope will become an annual tradition! And since all of the ingredients were so inexpensive, I can certainly afford to make a few more batches... maybe even this year! Non-Edible Cinnamon Ornament/Tag Recipe -1 cup cinnamon -1 tablespoon ground cloves -1 tablespoon ground nutmeg -3/4 cup applesauce -2 tablespoons glue (or in my case, modge podge) CINNAMON GIFT TAGS AND ORNAMENTS SUPPLY LIST Non-Edible Cinnamon dough (see above for recipe) Rolling pin Cookie cutter Cookie sheet Oven (optional) Scissors Ribbon

Could Valentine’s Day be right around the corner? It was JUST Christmas, for Heaven’s sake. When I was in elementary school, I was a hopeless romantic. I had a few crushes on some boys in school, but I was super shy - and, might I add, a homely freckled face little girl that was usually taller than boys of my age. I was always the "friend" that the boys would ask if a girl thought they were cute or if I thought they liked them. Silly grade school stuff. And it was those "friends" that were usually the ones that I thought were awesome - and a few of them were my secret crush. Heart broken when they weren't "interested" in me as a girlfriend, but rather just a friend. Remember grade school Valentine’s? The ones that we would fill out for each classmate and leave them in their handmade card receptacle. I had a crush on a very cute boy in the 4th grade and was giddy in anticipation to see what kind of Valentine would be from him. Would it be one that read I think you are cute or special or I like you..or..or..or. On Valentine's Day our teacher read us poetry and delighted us with homemade cupcakes with pink frosting on white cake. On our desks were other special treats of heart shaped chocolates and heart cutout cookies. Along one stretch of the south wall of the classroom, our handmade heart envelopes (with our name visible) were taped and ready to be filled. After we devoured the sweets, each student distributed their Valentine cards and ...and..and... would he have picked me out the prettiest Valentine in the dime store box his mom bought for him? My card to him was simply signed with my name..not love Becky..but "from Becky". At the end of the school day, we removed our bevvy of Valentines and took them home. I RAN home! At home, I spilled the Valentines on my bed and read each one. They were so cute and so sweet and..and..and..nothing from the boy that I had eyes for. I saw him pass his out, but he didn't have any "Valentine Thoughts" for me. My heart was broken. I didn't understand why. There are things in life we will never understand or never really know an answer to. And my crush ended there. Over the years I have made a variety of hearts – to give as gifts and to sell. I have a few on file in my computer and revisited those. I am mulling over in my mind what kind of hearts to make this year. The ones in the first picture were for last year and I sold most of them. ~~~~~~~~ These little hearts God made. I found them on the beach during a most difficult time in my life. I like to think that God was sending me HIS LOVE and giving me something to smile about. He fancies making us joyful. We just have to pay attention and take notice. ~~~~~~ The following photos of hearts were found on Pinterest. If you click on the photo, you will be guided over to the source. I think all of them are so pretty and all were handmade by some very talented ladies! Such inspiration! Source ETSY source: lellaboutique.blogspot.com Source: Pam Garrison Source ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Update on the remodel: Earth to mother ship, the floors are IN! HOWEVER, a third of the floors in the smaller room were scratched. Yes, you read that right. After the installers left, I was wiping them down with BONA and found the scratches. I simply could not believe it. They came back to look at them. I used blue painter's tape to mark all of them...over 30. Needless to say, they will be removing the laminate and replacing it. I cried. The only thing the installer could think of was that there must have been something on his employee's knee pad, like a piece of metal. (Laminate is very, very difficult to scratch..so go figure.) They put in our other floors and did a perfect job. I felt bad for him, but maybe they will learn from this. I don't understand how this went unnoticed during the install? One was over an inch long! And while I was banned from my upstairs today, I got my fix today by catching up on my FAVORITE HGTV show, Fixer Upper. I love those two!!! And I found a lamp on their website that I am thinking about purchasing for the guest bedroom. Till next time.... hearts....
