Where bees are scant, or in settings like balconies that cannot accommodate flowers to attract bees, hand pollination is another option. The principle is fairly straight forward: Pollen is transferred from the open male flower to the stigma of the open female flower. At this point, the male flower can even be removed and dissected, as it is not going to be feeding any bees or serving the plant.

These moody, deep maroon, almost black blooms and long 16+ inch stems make this a dream cut flower. They are true to their name and look like little pincushions with needles poking out. Pollinators love this flower and it is one I get lots of compliments and questions about by passers-by. Start seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before last frost and transplant once danger of frost is past. These seeds need light to germinate so they do best with being set onto soil with just a light dusting of fine soil on top. They will often reseed themselves year after year. Each packet comes with roughly 25-30 seeds All the seeds I sell from my shop are lovingly gathered, processed and packaged by me! All my flowers are open pollinated and I do not use any herbicides or pesticides 🐝 To keep shipping costs and seed prices low, I ship most seed orders under $20 in an envelope without tracking with a handwritten card and some foam padding so the seeds don’t get squished. If you want tracking on smaller orders please reach out and I can add tracking for an additional charge. If there is ever an issue with seed damage in the mail, lost seeds in the mail, germination issues etc. Please message me! It is rare but sometimes things happen. I am always available to troubleshoot 😊

250 x Tumbling Ted Soapwort Seeds (Saponaria ocymoides) Saponaria ocymoides, commonly known as rock soapwort or tumbling Ted, is a low-growing perennial herbaceous plant. Belonging to the Caryophyllaceae family, this charming species is cherished for its cascading growth habit and delicate, star-shaped flowers. Rock soapwort typically forms dense mats of trailing stems that sprawl over rocks, walls, or other surfaces, creating a picturesque carpet of foliage. The narrow, lance-shaped leaves are evergreen in mild climates, adding year-round interest to garden settings. During the summer months, clusters of small, five-petaled flowers emerge at the tips of the stems. These blooms vary in colour from pale pink to white and emit a subtle, sweet fragrance that attracts pollinators such as bees and butterflies. In addition to its ornamental value, rock soapwort has historical uses in traditional herbal medicine. The plant contains saponins, natural compounds that produce a lather when mixed with water, giving rise to its common name "soapwort." All packets are labelled and come with sowing instructions. We are a DEFRA registered and source premium quality seeds from recognised UK suppliers.
