Sinningia bullata is known by its common name Emerald Forest and belongs to the Gesneriaceae family. Its native place is Brazil. The unique feature of this plant is its quilted or ruffled leaves; therefore, it has been named bullata. The leaves have white hair on the underside that is more pronounced in young leaves. The tuberous growth with bulleted leaves and the red tubular short flowers that bloom all year round are the key features of this slow-growing plant. Additionally, it grows to a height of 20 cm. Unlike other Sinningia species, the Sinningia bullata does not go dormant in winter. Like most of the other members of its family, the plant can bear frost slightly. Growth RateSinningia bullata is a slow-growing plant. FloweringThis plant bears short red tubular flowers. There is no specific blooming season as it can bloom year-round.Watering and FeedingThe Sinningia bullata is drought-tolerant still; ensure that you mist the plant regularly. Water the soil only and avoid watering the plant directly.SoilPlant your Sinningia bullata in rich-drained soil.HardinessThe hardiness zone of Sinningia bullata is 10a to 11b. It is slightly frost-hardy. The suitable temperature range is 30° to 45° F (-1.1° to 7.2° C). LightExpose this Sinningia variety to direct sun during morning or late afternoon. For the rest of the day, keep it under shade.PropagationThe best way to propagate this caudex-forming succulent is through seeds. Cuttings also work, but you need to pay a lot of attention to the plant. Sinningia bullata was named in 2010 by Alain P. Chautems. In the wild, it grows on vertical slopes. It looks stunning when grown indoors or outdoors in pots and containers. Besides, these plants look great on patios, balconies, and terraces.
Abstract A taxonomic revision of Didymocarpus (Gesneriaceae) in Thailand has resulted in eighteen species. Three new species are described: Didymocarpus inflatus J.F.Maxwell & Nangngam, D. jaesonensis Nangngam & J.F.Maxwell, and D. payapensis Nangngam & J.F.Maxwell. A key to the Thai species, detailed descriptions, and notes on distribution, ecology, phenology, salient morphological traits, and illustrations are presented. Streptocarpus saxorum, commonly known as the Cape Primrose or Nodding Violet, is a popular flowering plant that belongs to the Gesneriaceae family. Here are some key facts about Streptocarpus saxorum: Description Appearance: Streptocarpus saxorum is a small, trailing plant with thin, wiry stems and small, fleshy, dark green leaves. The leaves are opposite, ovate, and have a slightly hairy texture. Flowers: The plant produces delicate, tubular flowers that are usually violet-blue with a white throat, although color variations can occur. The flowers are nodding, giving rise to the common name "Nodding Violet." Size: It typically grows to a height of about 10-15 cm (4-6 inches) and spreads to about 30-40 cm (12-16 inches). Habitat and Distribution Native Range: Streptocarpus saxorum is native to the eastern regions of Africa, particularly in Kenya and Tanzania. Habitat: It naturally grows in rocky outcrops and crevices in mountainous regions, often found in shaded or semi-shaded areas. Cultivation and Care Light: It thrives in bright, indirect light. Direct sunlight can scorch the leaves, so it’s best to place it in a spot with filtered light or partial shade. Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Overwatering can lead to root rot, while underwatering can cause the plant to wilt. Allow the top layer of soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Temperature: Streptocarpus saxorum prefers moderate temperatures, ideally between 18-24°C (65-75°F). It should be protected from cold drafts and temperatures below 10°C (50°F). Soil: A well-draining potting mix, such as one designed for African violets, works well for this plant. Adding perlite or sand can improve drainage. Humidity: It appreciates higher humidity levels but can adapt to average indoor humidity. Misting the plant occasionally or placing it on a humidity tray can help maintain optimal humidity. Fertilization: Feed the plant with a balanced, water-soluble fertilizer diluted to half strength every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Propagation Stem Cuttings: Streptocarpus saxorum can be easily propagated from stem cuttings. Cut a healthy stem just below a leaf node and plant it in a moist, well-draining potting mix. Keep the cutting in a warm, humid environment until it roots. Division: Mature plants can also be divided during repotting. Gently separate the plant into smaller sections, ensuring each section has roots and foliage, and replant them in individual pots. Uses Ornamental: Streptocarpus saxorum is primarily grown as an ornamental plant for its attractive foliage and charming flowers. It’s suitable for hanging baskets, containers, and as a ground cover in shaded garden areas. Indoor Plant: Its compact size and low maintenance requirements make it an excellent choice for indoor gardening, especially in spaces with limited light. Streptocarpus saxorum is a delightful plant that can add a touch of elegance to any garden or indoor plant collection with its lovely flowers and graceful growth habit. You get the displayed plant.
