An unusual Renaissance style silver ring made in Southern Germany circa 1750-1800! In the centre rests a table-cut garnet gemstone in a box bezel with an engraved quatrefoil underside. The shoulders are decorated with baluster carved motifs, leading to a tapering fluted D-shaped hoop. During the Renaissance, finger rings developed from the simple forms of the medieval period into miniature works of art, combining the skills of the chaser, engraver, enameller and stone cutter. Cabochon settings remained in use but developments in stone cutting saw the increasing use of table cuts. These Renaissance designs remained in fashion in the traditional jewellery style of Southern Germany in the 18th and 19th centuries. The ring shows signs of age but is in good wearable condition. For the prototype of a Renaissance style ring with quatrefoil bezel from Southern Germany with similar design, workmanship and choice of silver with gemstones, see cf. Chadour 1994, vol. I, no. 1887 dated 18th – 19th century. UK size M 1/2 / US size 6 1/2, 6.32g. The stone measures 4mm across its longest axis.

"Collectors are happy people!" Johann Wolfgang von Goethe info: This is particularly true of the so-called evening bricks. They have been decorated with certain signs, symbols or inscriptions. One can read, for example, how much salary a Ziegler received and sometimes how satisfied he was with it ("Whoever forgets the tip thut, the devil shall eat him immediately"). There are defensive signs that should deter damage from the house. On some roofs there are praying nuns or monks, on other witches or so-called envy heads, others show a tree of life. If something special happened in the house or in the family during the manufacture of the bricks, it is not uncommon to find an indication of it on an evening brick. From the cradle to the grave, all conceivable reversing of life are recorded on these bricks. "Snap, snap, and the thread of life is gone" is the motto of a 17th-century brick from Maulbronn Abbey. Wars and peacetimes are recorded on the bricks. And also very tangible and sometimes derisive sayings and representations can be found on the bricks. For this reason, the bricks are an eloquent testament to people's everyday lives; and that's why they're so interesting. "Celebration evening bricks" are special bricks. The hand-shaped and burnt bricks are decorated with certain signs, motifs and symbols. They are an eloquent testimony to the past everyday life and that is precisely why it is so interesting. "A special brick on the roof" – this tradition is the origin of motif bricks. They have been given special protection

The Käppele, taken from the vineyards below the Festung Marienberg. The Käppele, a pilgrimage church overlooking Würzburg, was built 1748-50 by Balthasar Neumann. The interior was decorated between 1750 and 1800. It is one of the best examples of German Rococo style, but early classicist elements are present as well, particularly in the Gnadenkapelle (the side chapel on the left).
