Awe, I LOVE to look back at my little one's milestones in life! Isn't that what parties are all about?! Celebrating the big and small and having a "mark" to remember them by. Plus, it is a great way to gather family and friends to laugh, eat, and love. Today I am sharing the Peaches and Cream | Sweet as a Peach 1st Birthday Party that I styled for my little peach. Her birthday is in the summer so it was a perfect time for celebrating the ripening, sweet, juicy fruit on the tree and my sweet, juicy girl too! I could just eat her!! I can't nail down my favorites from this celebration, but some you should look out for when scrolling through the pics include the following: Peach Cookies 1st Year Picture Display Frame Peach Crate Installations Guest Favors Delicious Minimalistic Cake Farm Fresh Peach Stand Peach Candies Perfect 1st Birthday Smash Cake Just like I have always said, I would love to invite ALL of you to every party I style! Too bad we don't have unlimited time off from work and unlimited frequent flyer miles! Since I can't invite all of my Kara's Party Ideas family, I will share this joyous day with you here. So, grab a drink and find somewhere comfortable to sit, then come on into the party! While you do that, let's take a moment to talk about the vendors I used. Whether for a baby shower or baby's first birthday, this buzzworthy cake is the bee's knees. On the inside is a delightful honey cake, which is simply decorated with honey buttercream frosting to look like a beehive. A wonderful confection for a mommy to be! Yield: Makes one 6-inch three layer cake Things you'll need Ingredients Fondant: yellow, black and white For the Honey Cake 2 1/2 cups plus 2 tbsp all-purpose flour 2 1/4 tsp baking powder 1/4 tsp salt 12 tbsp (1 1/2 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature 1 cup plus 2 tbsp sugar 3/4 cup honey 3 large eggs 4 1/2 tsp vanilla extract 3/4 cup whole milk Decorations Buttercream Frosting Food coloring: yellow and black Black FoodWriter pen Equipment Small (1/16-inch0 teardrop cookie cutter) Decorating tips: #809, two #12 Let's get started! Fondant Prep Work with fondant on wax paper sprinkled with powdered sugar. For the bee bodies, roll the yellow fondant into 1 inch oval balls. Roll out the black fondant to 1/8 inch thick and cut out strips 1/8 inch wide and 3 inches long. Attach to the bee bodies using water. For the wings, roll out the white fondant to 1/8 inch thick and cut out small teardrops with the teardrop cookie cutter. Once hardened attach 2 wings to each bee body. Draw eyes and eyelashes on each bee with a black FoodWriter pen. Set aside to harden. Let's get started! Preheat the oven to 350F. Line the bottoms of three 6-inch round cake pans with rounds of parchment paper and heavily grease the paper. Make the honey cake: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. In a large bowl, with an electric mixer, beat the butter, sugar and honey until light and fluffy, 3 to 5 minutes. Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla. On low speed, alternate adding the flour mixture and the milk to the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the flour mixture. Divide the batter evenly among the prepared pans and bake until a wooden pick inserted into the center comes out clean, 45 to 60 minutes. Let cool in the pans for 15 minutes, then turn out onto a wire rack to cool completely. Level off the tops of 2 cakes with a cake leveler or a large serrated knife; leave the third cake unleveled. Time to decorate! Scoop 1/4 cup of the frosting into a small bowl and tint black, then scoop into a decorating bag fitted with a #12 tip. Tint the remaining frosting yellow and scoop a small amount into a decorating bag fitted with a #12 tip for step 8. Scoop the remaining yellow frosting into a decorating bag fitted with a #809 tip (you may have to refill it, depending on the size of your decorating bag). Stack the cakes with thin layers of yellow buttercream frosting in between the layers and the unleveled cake on top. Freeze the cake for 15 minutes to harden. Using a serrated knife, carve the cake into a beehive shape. Crumb coat the cake with a thin layer of frosting. Refrigerate for 30 minutes. Pipe a door with black frosting. Pipe horizontal stripes of yellow frosting around the cake, starting from the bottom and working to the top, making a beehive texture. Using the decorating bag fitted with a #12 tip, pipe a border around the doorway. Place the bees on the cake. Written By Rosanna Pansino

"She said she would never act that way at my family’s parties."
(That's the same peony from E.V.'s Gender Reveal!) I can't believe I've delayed so long in writing this post! I loooove throwing parties (crafts!), and the second they're over I'm ravenous for the pictures (always from the amazingly talented Carrie Tabb). However, when the last of the trash bags has been taken to the curb, it's as if all of a sudden the adrenaline wears off, it hits me that I'm EXHAUSTED, and I realize that I don't want to think about anything related to the six weeks leading up the party...and then it takes the next six weeks to recover! :) I was re-looking at these images for the billionth time today and thought, "Man, it's about time to share these lovely photos of such a fun time!" So here we are. Emma Vance's birthday was at the end of June, and her peach-themed party was two days later. Since Amityville (obviously) wasn't a good option to host all of our friends and family, we rented a pavilion at our local park, ordered BBQ from Jim 'n Nicks (yum) and decked the halls with peach and mint. It was HOT-HOT-HOT, and even though that's a "no duh" for summer in the South, I had the misguided idea that I'd actually get to wear my hair down for the party. That lasted about 10 minutes into set-up. We were prepped for the heat with King of Pops (heaven), lots of cold drinks and a giant fan, and although my tissue paper flowers melted in the heat (which I did NOT predict would happen), the summer sun wasn't as scary as I had thought it would be. Overall, everyone hung out, ate and played (with toys and bubbles and each other). We sang "Happy Birthday," E.V. smashed her cake and (I think) everyone enjoyed themselves. It was exactly how I imagined it would be. :) P.S.: A HUGE thank you to Alli Finlay and Ashley Glover for being my set-up slaves! Only a true friend would let me boss them around and still like me at the end of the day. :) And, oh, a special thank you to Alli who always gets me through those last crazy days (and nights) before all of my events. You rock. Here's Emma Vance's first birthday party told in pictures: (Curious for more? You can click here to see them all!) (FINALLY taking all those monthly pictures was worth it!) Crawlers & Cruisers area for all of E.V.'s little friends. Confession: I have an unhealthy obsession with flowers. Dessert! (Remember that re-frosted cake? Worth it. ;) ) Smash cake! (I made that clay peach--which took a million coats of paint to cover...) ('Atta girl!) The birthday girl had TWO King of Pops! We played "toljabee," where you guess which toy (and thus future career) the baby will choose. (Of course I thought she'd choose the dog...) She chose the dog! Future veterinarian! Singing "Happy Birthday!" Smashing! (No one warns you about the clean up...) Mmmm...birthday cake! Party favors, of course. post-smashing outfit = a must While we cleaned up, Carrie and Alli took these AWESOME pictures...thank you!!! Clean-up is a beautiful thing...literally!
