DESCRIPTION Archival ink on museum-quality cotton rag paper | 2015 A logical continuation of Verhoef’s “Inscapes” series, “Human//Nature” investigates the artist’s connection to the natural world and how it influences her sense of identity. The complicated relationship between humans and nature is a common thread throughout her work, and when Verhoef places herself in desolate landscapes, a character arises that wants to connect with her surroundings, but can feel out of place. In this new series, the character seems to move more and more into anonymity, sometimes leaving not much more than a human shape. With an even more minimal visual language and an increasingly geometrical approach to composition, Verhoef aims to emphasize the contrast between the human presence and the natural world. At the Direktorenhaus Museum in Berlin this past week, a solo exhibition of detailed architectural drawings by Virginia-based artist Benjamin Sack (previously) opened to the public. Titled Labyrinths, the collection of new works features vast cityscapes comprised of impossible inner-geometries. The maze-like urban maps reference musical compositions and various symbols found in cosmology. Often creating based on what he calls a “fear of blank spaces,” Sack tells Colossal that his starting point for each drawing is different. More

Now isn’t this Peach Tourmaline ring just adorable? The sweet sentiment of the toi et moi ring comes to mind when looking at this deliciously dainty two stone ring; two tourmaline lovers lovers suspended together for eternity. Rather simplistic in its composition, this 1930’s ring fully embodies the streamlined and geometric design aesthetic of the art deco period which officially ended in 1939. The hue of the 9ct gold band compliments the peachy tone of the stones beautifully; the way the colors accent one another reminds me of early summer sun (I’m a poet at heart, SUE ME) maybe making this ring one of my favorite stone & gold combinations currently in the inventory. Lofty words, for a dainty and distinguished vintage jewel. Materials and Features: 9ct and Tourmaline Age/Origin: English, 1930 Measurements: 2.25g, Size 9 Condition: In in wonderful condition, little to no age ware. Imbued with the serene ambiance of the Isle of Mull, this evocative print captures the essence of its majestic landscapes through the lens of Minimalism. The artwork portrays a harmonious blend of warm and cool hues, with a cascade of vibrant autumnal tones transitioning into the tranquil blues and greys of the distant peaks. A gentle lake mirrors the sky, creating a fluid symmetry that bisects the composition. Bold geometric shapes in the foreground suggest a patchwork of fields, each facet offering a different shade or texture. Above, the trees stand as simplified silhouettes, with their russet leaves captured in a stylized manner that complements the understated approach of the piece. This illustration distills the natural grandeur of the Isle of Mull into a series of sweeping, abstracted forms, inviting the viewer into a world where colour and form coalesce. The quietude of the landscape is palpable, echoing the stillness one might experience while standing on the shores of the isle itself. Presented as part of the 'Modern & Minimal' collection, this print is a celebration of both the timeless beauty of the Scottish countryside and the aesthetic power of minimalistic art – perfect for the admirer of both nature and contemporary design.
