Normally, it stays in the trunk for regular caches. On regular caches the car is never too far away and I can just pop back to it if I need anything. On longer hikes for caches, we split up the essentials from the non essentials. The tool California roll, GPSr, and the first aid bag always go where we go.. We pick and choose according to the description and how far we are hiking. This bag is far too heavy to be karting around willy nilly.
