My very first year of seminary I had an amazing teacher. We’re talking the rockstar of all CES employees. This guy had the seminary spirit in bucketloads. I sat there every day, with a bunch of other 7th graders, totally captivated with what he was teaching us. But even out of all those lessons, this…

I love the fall... and I LOVE GENERAL CONFERENCE!!! Here are a few of the things I am doing to prepare my family for the AMAZING OPPORTUNITY we have to hear the Lord's chosen Prophet's and Apostles! I start out by creating the mood! I decorate like it's the biggest holiday of the year! I want my family to understand how truly blessed we are to have this opportunity so I do try to make it a big deal! Conference Banner: Just print, cut and punch a hole in each of the top corners. Tie the banner pieces together with ribbons and you're done! Next, We count it down! The countdown starts on the day of the General Women's Meeting. Each day I give everyone a reminder or challenge to help them prepare for Conference. The candy I used for each day is listed with the tags above. FHE Conference Prep! The Family Home Evening before Conference we spend a few minutes talking about the importance of Conference. We fill out our question cards. (Shown Below) We read the testimonies given at the end of each of the April Conference Talks. ...and last but not least we enjoy a Conference Sundae! We tell them that Conference is like a Sundae. The more you put into it...the more you will get out of it! WRITE down any questions or concerns we may have and PRAY about each question! Members of the Church are entitled to personal revelation as they listen to and study the inspired words spoken at general conference. As you prepare for general conference, I invite you to ponder questions you need to have answered. For example, you might yearn for direction and guidance by the Lord regarding challenges you are facing. Answers to your specific prayers may come directly from a particular talk or from a specific phrase. At other times answers may come in a seemingly unrelated word, phrase, or song. A heart filled with gratitude for the blessings of life and an earnest desire to hear and follow the words of counsel will prepare the way for personal revelation. President Dieter F. Uchtdorf Print this card and keep it in your scriptures. Review it often! We attend the Temple! Everyone in my family is old enough to participate in temple ordinances and so we are able to do baptisms, initiatories, endowments and sealings. This year I was able to get our own family names so it will be a sweet experience for sure! My parents are Ogden Temple workers and so it will be even more sweet to be able to have them there with us! We set up the Prophet's and Apostles Wall! I printed 5" x 7" pictures of the 1st Presidency, 12 Apostles, and General Presidencies. I printed and cut, and laminated each of the tags and pictures. I put a tag under each of the pictures. We used wet-erase markers to write down the speaker's topic, and a few of our favorite quotes, scriptures or comments. The pictures and tags stay up until the Conference Ensign is out. It's a great reminder for each of us. Conference isn't just two days... it's messages are to become a part of us and the way we live! Pictures found on LDS.org We feed our bodies... so we can concentrate on feeding our Spirits! Almost all of the food is made on Saturday in between conference sessions so that we can focus on being Spiritually fed! Conference Breakfast at our house is AWESOME! Crepes and German Pancakes in the Spring... Breakfast Casseroles and Pumpkin Pancakes in the fall! We will be adding a new tradition this year for lunch... We will be having a Conference Picnic! I will be serving: Chicken Bacon Ranch Sandwiches Fruits and Veggies Chips Raspberry Lemonade and Cookies (All of which can be made the night before!) Conference Dinner will be hot dogs over a fire followed by S'mores! Our Lego Tradition: My boys love Lego's! Each time conference rolls around, we add a new Lego set to our ever growing collection. This Lego set is the best so far! It's the Brick 'em Young Salt Lake Temple! It's AMAZING!!! Conference Bags: I purchased reusable grocery bags from the dollar store. I reuse the same bags for every conference. The bags include: Scriptures, Notebooks, Markers, Pens and Pencils, and their new "Conference Socks." I also add treats and a drink. Conference Socks: Conference Socks are a family favorite! My kids love them and look forward to them with each general conference. I put a new pair of socks into a cellophane bag and attached the poem. This is one of the things I always add to their Conference Bag! Conference Puzzles: Each year I have our family pictures made into puzzles. We put these together between the sessions! We also did a puzzle with all of the Prophet's. (You can order the puzzles online. I ordered mine through Shutterfly.) Conference Journals: This year's conference journals are from Sam's Club and are the 9"x 11" notebooks. I printed and attached the covers to each of them with double sided tape. I also printed sticker sets of the 1st Presidency, 12 Apostles, and General Presidencies. These stickers can be added to the page when that person is speaking. Conference Questions: During each speaker, family members will write questions from the conference talks. We will put the questions from each session into a jar which will be used during Family Home Evening Monday Night. Each correct answer will receive "Conference Cash!" It's a WIN...WIN! Conference Cash: I attached each of these to a dollar bill and put them in a jar so that they could be seen during conference. We actually ended up donating all of our winnings to a wrestler in need. It was an amazing experience! Dollars are paid out on the MONDAY following conference. Questions from the "CONFERENCE QUESTIONS" Jar are asked and whoever answers the question correctly...WINS THE DOLLAR! It's a great incentive, especially if you have teenagers. If you would like to use any of the things I have done... Just click on the picture to enlarge it, and then right click on the image and save it to the program you will be using it in. Hopefully that will make it so that you will always have access to the images and projects. Please refer friends back to this link instead of just copying and pasting it to your own blog...I sure would appreciate it!
