Locke's stunning, sensuous spectacle of pattern and color, just like the grand tradition of Caribbean carnivals, hints at sinister elements that undergird the whole endeavor.
Bringing contemporary culture to a wider audience, and vice versa.
French artist Bernard Pras works almost entirely within the realm of assemblage and anamorposis, a visual illusion where a distorted projection—often made from paint or a collection or objects—must be viewed from a specific vantage point to reconstitute the intended image. His latest piece, a portrait of Malian actor Sotigui Kouyaté, is comprised of numerous objects including clothes, paint, wood, rubber, and other objects found or scavenged around the installation site. Wilder Mann - Charles Freger, Dewi Lewis publishing, 2012 Hardcover "Charles Fréger visited eighteen European countries in search for the mythological figure named Wild Man. The transformation from man to beast or wild man is a key aspect of pagan rituals that celebrate the seasonal cycle, fertility, life and death. Every year throughout Europe from Scotland to Italy and everywhere between people adorn the skin of the 'savage' in masquerades that date back centuries. The appearance of the Wild Man varies from a boar, goat, bear, devil, monster and man of straw. As the terrain changes so do the costumes accordingly. The startling convincing costumes are made from animal skins, plants, bones, bells and horns. Despite being a tradition centuries old it was previously largely undocumented. Compiled within this book are one hundred and sixty four portraits that reveal an extraordinary celebration of ancient tradition." - from the LN-CC website Available HERE Over&Out G

I went to Yorkshire Sculpture Park again yesterday. It's half term, so it was a great opportunity to immerse my son Freddy in a bit of culture. Also, when I went last week the Jaume Plensa exhibit wasn't fully open to the public, so this was my first chance to see the work inside the Underground Gallery. 50 metre curtain of poetry made of suspended steel letters Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 These are breathtaking - and the pictures do not show their ethereal quality There are pulsating lights above these sculptures, which has the effect of making the carved stone pieces look like holographic images Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Jaume Plensa - Yorkshire Sculpture Park 2011 Three trips to Yorkshire Sculpture Park in the past month is more than sufficient to gather ample research and ideas for a new collection of work.
