Integrate STEM in Your Classroom at the End of the School Year! Make learning fun with this water bottle flipping STEM challenge students love! There are three challenges included. Super fun activity for the End of the Year! Students will investigate which water level, bottle size, and bottle style is the best for water bottle flipping. Perfect for introducing Newton's Laws of Motion or other force and motion science ideas. The STEM Process: Students plan, design, and execute their own ideas. After they have completed their activity, there is time for reflection on what worked and what didn't. Amazing resource for STEM club, STEM Teachers, parents who love hands-on learning, and elementary teachers who want to create a hands-on educational environment in their classroom! This activity is an excellent STEM Center or as a whole classroom experience! Aligns with NGSS (Next Generation Science Standards). What teachers are saying about Water Bottle Flip STEM Challenges! "So much fun! I used them at the end of last year and the first day of this year my new students asked if they could do it." - Kayla L. "I used this lesson as an enrichment opportunity students had to earn. It was really motivating because they always want to flip their milk cartons at breakfast and I wont allow it but now they had a chance to flip something without getting in trouble. They really enjoy it and because they were engaged we got deep into the scientific method. I highly recommend this product." - Keely H. "My students loved doing this experiment! I like the fact that there is more than one version of the experiment so we can do this again later." - Gail L. "This was a high-quality end of the year STEM activity for rambunctious fourth graders. it kept them engaged and filled up that awkward time after testing and after packing up the room." "My 5th graders are obsessed with flipping their water bottles so why not make it educational! They actually didn't mind that I made it educational and became very competitive. Fun way to learn hands on !' - Colleen R. "I must admit I considered this last year and hesitated, fearing it could trigger a classroom behavior control issue. I am thrilled to report all students on task, completely engaged and actively discussing results that led to further questioning and possible future investigations. One of the best activities I have done!" - Lizabeth L. Includes: Teacher with example photos Student STEM Journal Student Instructions Student Planning Pages Student Reflection Pages NGSS Standards Material List: Different sizes and styles of water bottles NEXT GENERATION SCIENCE STANDARDS K-PS2-2 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions Analyze data to determine if a design solution works as intended to change the speed or direction of an object with a push or a pull. 3-PS2-2 Motion and Stability: Forces and Interactions Make observations and/or measurements of an object’s motion to provide evidence that a pattern can be used to predict future motion.
This is a fantastic oil on canvas by Gail Lapins. This piece is perfect for a splash of color in that drab interior! A great size at 47" x 35", this piece shines with color and texture. Tones of red, blue, green and yellow fill the canvas. The piece is signed on the left, "Gail Lapins", and is framed in a 1.5" gold leafed frame. From Gail Lapins Website: Born: New York, New York Otis Parsons Art Institute, 1982-86 Cal Poly University, 1991-1994 B.A., summa cum laude “Gail Lapins is a contemporary figurative artist whose paintings have been exhibited in art galleries, museums and university settings nationally and internationally. Her paintings are explorations of an internal world where characters, events and scenes mirror reality, but are not restricted by logic or structure. She challenges viewers through the narrative fragments to create their personal interpretations. Lapins' paintings are held in many public and private collections.”

It's my turn to host this week's challenge. I decided to really challenge myself and pick something I don't do a lot of - Special Folds. A special fold that is popular right now is one called Pop Up Panel. I have watched several videos showing how it is done, and the one I found the most easily followed was done by Dawn Griffith, also a Stampin' Up demonstrator. Recently, one of my sisters was visiting, and it just happened to be her birthday while she was here. So I took the opportunity to make her a Special Fold birthday card. Here is the front: I also dug into my hoard - uh - stash of favourite retired cardstock to use for the cardbase and ink. Lost Lagoon is just the best shade of blue! And it goes really well with the silver foil dotted pattern from the Halloween Night Specialty Designer Series Paper. The image is stamped on Whisper White cardstock, using Lost Lagoon and Archival Basic Black inks. The images are from Touches of Texture and the sentiment is from Rose Wonder. I used markers in Daffodil Delight and Old Olive to colour the flowers and leaves. Are you ready to see the inside? My sister loves cats, so it was a purr-fect chance to use the Pretty Kitty stamp set. It took a variety of markers to colour each panel as I wanted each kitty to be a different colour. The grass image is from Sitting Here. Here is a close-up of the kitties: This really was a fun card to make and I hope you will give it a try. Or, any one of the other fantastic fold projects done by the other Watercooler Artists you can see at the Watercooler Wednsday Blog.
From New York Times bestselling author Gail Carriger comes the final book in the Custard Protocol series. Percy is off to Japan, but will Japan survive Percy? Bookish and proper Percival Tunstell finds himself out of his depth when floating cities, spirited plumbing, and soggy biscuits collide in this delightful conclusion the Custard Protocol series. Percival Tunstell loves that his sister and friends are building themselves a family of misfits aboard their airship, the Spotted Custard. Of course, he'd never admit that he belongs among them. Percy has always been on the outside - dispassionate, aloof, and hatless. But accidental spies, a trip to Japan, and one smart and beautiful doctor may have him renegotiating his whole philosophy on life. Except hats. He's done with hats. Thank you very much. “Carriger’s prose is playful and droll, with frequent laugh-worthy moments, tongue-in-cheek humor, and sparkling repartee.” ~ Publisher's Weekly The Custard Protocol series is Firefly goes steampunk fantasy and it’s perfect for fans of Lindsay Broker, Richelle Mead, or Genevieve Cogman. If you like Percy and Arsenic’s awkward but sweet dynamic and want more romantic comedy of manners, then you should also try Carriger’s Poison or Protect.
