P&B, 2792. PDF Pattern The pattern has been retyped exactly as it was. Unfortunately I have had to make a new cover as the original is too damaged to work with. The pattern suggests 10oz 4ply Wool (old 4ply) with 9 & 11 needles. I have knitted it up in acrylic DK 4x100g balls using same needles and it has knitted to a 40.5" chest. Aboard a 15th Army Air Force, 99th BG (Bombardment Group) B-17 Flying Fortress bomber. Foggia, Italy (Tortorella), in the WWII MTO (Mediterranean Theatre of Operation). The 'offset' windows on the bomber helped prevent the two gunners operating the .50-caliber machine guns from running into each other during the 'frenzy' of trying to shoot down attacking German fighters, such as the BF-109, and even jets. Today, the 99th is no longer a BG (Bomb Group), and are based at Nellis AFB (Air Force Base), Nevada. Photo from their website. During the Wings of Freedom Tour in May, 2011, an 89-year old 99th BG B-17 ball turret ('belly') gunner, Bill Cornett, was treated to a complimentary flight from Santa Ana to Hawthorne, CA Airports aboard the B-17g Flying Fortress bomber "Nine-O-Nine".... his fifty-second 'mission' (his own words)! He is very sharp and spry at 89. I've helped him put his record of his bombing missions in chronological order, and he now has a Flickr photostream at B-17Gunner, showing his latest flight, along with a pictorial history of his wartime missions in Foggia, Italy.
Flight jacket history with a compilation of the some of the most important flight jackets that have been, together with their basic descriptions and some illustrations in a timeline. Featuring the A2 jacket history, G1 jacket history and more.
