After a small break, I am back in my studio again, working on another ring bearer's pillow: The colors, threads and laces are the same as on the previous pillow I made, but this time I took my chances with piecing a fan block. I was a bit nervous about the curved piecing, but I think it turned out beautifully. The seam treatments still have to be finished and the laces embellished with beads... I have several ideas for how to treat the "boomerang" patch, will have to decide on that by Tuesday so I can hopefully finish the pillow next weekend. Until then, have a great time this weekend, Everyone!

After taking a look at Art Deco last week, I became curious about Art Nouveau. "What's the difference?" kept entering my mind. So I did a little research. Flower border Turns out I'm addressing them backwards: Art Nouveau (new art) is the earlier style and is more naturalistic. That should have been last week's inspiration. Art Nouveau architecture My mnemonic: First, art is "nouveau," (pronounced new-voe) and natural; it includes shapes from nature such as leaves, arcs, ferns. Note the arcs, parabolas, and flower stamens Then, it decorates and styles a space, including sleek, geometric lines, chrome, zigzags. This is a broadly defining way of remembering the differences, but I need something. As you look at the modern quilts below, note the arcs, parabolas, flowers, and stylized, contrasting lines. Do you agree that these have some elements of Art Nouveau? Do you find that they also have elements of Art Deco as well? It gets a little confusing, doesn't it?

I am always in awe of quiltmakers. Having attempted making my own small quilt, I know how much work goes into each one. These incredibly beautiful quilts, designed by Nora Nilsson, have an old-world feel with colors for today, traditional quilt designs, and stunning gingham linen. While deeply influenced by Finnish and Scandinavian heritage, each of these quilts is handmade in India and even quilted by hand. Each quilt is well made and perfectly fluffy and cozy. These are just right for a picnic, a bedroom, or to curl up on a cold day. The mustard and pink gingham is just a perfectly charming and beautiful combination. The dusty pink color is paired with natural linen. - DETAILS - Measure 62.99" x 78.74". Made of 100% linen front and 100% cotton solid in a natural color with polyester batting. Made in India.
