COFFEE I do not recommend getting sick during this flu/virus season, but if you do, I have the drink for you! It's the Medicine Ball Tea from Starbucks. They use two types of tea, steamed lemonade and honey to make it and it helps ease a sore throat and congestion. I am so happy to be feeling better! BOOKS The only perk of being sick was I had a few extra hours to read. This month, I read six books and they got better as the month went on! I have two five star books for you this month; one fiction and one non-fiction. Fitness Junkie by: Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza 3 out of 5 stars (www.amazon.com) I grabbed this book at the library one afternoon and read it pretty quickly. It takes place in New York, so of course I would want to read it! The premise is a girl whose male business partner tells her she's fat and needs to take a sabbatical to get back in shape. This spurs her to try all kinds of crazy things to lose weight. The book is very tongue-in-cheek about the fitness industry and the quest for skinny. It's an enjoyable read with some funny moments. Hygge: The Danish Art of Happiness by: Marie Tourell Soderberg 3 out of 5 stars (www.amazon.com) Several months ago, I read THIS BOOK about the concept of hygge and loved it! I am still enraptured by the concept of the cozy life, and honestly read this book because of its cover. The book itself was ok, but I liked my original read better. This is a good one to check out from the library and scroll through. Pretty Fun by: Kate Hudson 3 out of 5 stars (www.amazon.com) You all know I can't pass up reading any book about entertaining or lifestyle in general. Kate Hudson's newest book is full of great pictures and a fun idea or two. The Secret Life of Violet Grant by: Beatriz Williams 4 out of 5 stars (www.amazon.com) I never enjoyed historical fiction until I read Beatriz Williams' books. This one also did not disappoint. Although racier than some of the other books I've read of hers, the characters and story lines drew me in. Like her other books, this one spans two different time periods with a suitcase full of items bridging the two women. If you like historical fiction and books about strong women, this book is for you. The Last Mrs. Parrish by: Liv Constantine 5 out of 5 stars (www.amazon.com) If you liked Girl on a Train or Gone Girl, this is your next favorite book. I literally read this book in one day; I could not put it down! It's suspenseful, the characters are CRAZY and it has several twists and turns. I cannot wait for this book to be made into a movie...Reese Witherspoon, I'm lookin' at you to make this happen! (Pretty sure Reese isn't reading my blog, but she should.) :) Girl, Wash Your Face by: Rachel Hollis 5 out of 5 stars (www.amazon.com) Like most of the great non-fiction books I read, I heard about this one on a podcast. I had never heard of Rachel Hollis before, but I am a fan of her work after reading this book. She runs a lifestyle company called Chic Media and she is delightful, honest and fun. Read this book if you need a pick-me-up or need to be motivated to live life on your own terms. Such a fun book! I hope you found a book or two to add to your list! I honestly love the feedback I get from these posts and would love to hear what you are reading and loving!
I've shared before that I am not someone who likes a formal workout routine. I like to be active, but active on accident. I like to play with my son, go on walks, park far away at Target...but the minute I try to implement a workout routine, I think of every excuse not to follow it. Enter my new best friend... Inspire IC1.5 I am easily influenced by all the things on Instagram, but I could not bring myself to buy a stationary bike that costs as much as my first car. Could not do it. Now I have ridden a Peloton bike at several hotel gyms (remember when we used to go to hotels?), and I do love them. I just love them more when someone else pays for them. Last month, Dan went to the store for chicken and came home with this bike...and we haven't stopped riding it yet! A free year of the Inspire app is included with purchase and I like it fine. That said, I will not be repurchasing the app after the year is up. I prefer the Peloton app for classes, and have also found several I like for free on Amazon. If I am not feeling like a class, I watch indoor cycling videos on YouTube that wind through different cities/countries. Since I have now had this for over a month and I don't hate it, I thought I would share in case you were contemplating an indoor cycling purchase. I love reading about exercise/nutrition whenever I set new health goals. I read this book last month and loved it! It addresses the nutrition side of the health journey equation in an easily digestible way (see what I did there?) Cute workout clothes help inspire me to break a sweat. Or at least make me look like I plan to exercise after running errands. :) Here are some of my favorites: 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6 | 7 | 8 Let me know if you have any specific questions about the bike and I will do my best to answer them! Happy riding! xo, Deanna

It's been another crazy week filled with sad things in the world. It has me thinking about this quote... (image from www.pinterest.co...
(via pinterest) Happy Friday, friends! Thanks for spending a few minutes of yours joining me in my happy place on the internet. Today I am linking up with Andrea and Erika to share my Friday Favorites~Beauty Edition! I have loved makeup since I was a little girl. I have vivid memories of sneaking my mom's Oil of Olay cream and digging through my older sister's makeup drawer when I knew she wouldn't catch me. I have tried countless beauty brands over the years and definitely like to mix high and low end products. My number one concern is if the products work and last throughout the day. I am not one to reapply makeup other than lipstick or gloss. I am not a morning face washer. I always wash my face at night and apply my nighttime skin products. In the morning, I mist my face with Mario Badescu facial spray (it is truly the best!) and then apply good old Olay as a moisturizer/sunscreen. I've been sneaking it since I was three, so why not get my own? My mom looks pretty fantastic so she definitely influenced me. Mario Badescu | Olay Complete After my moisturizer is absorbed, I put on a full face of makeup. This would be my typical going to work look. It looks like a lot of products, but it seriously takes me ten minutes from start to finish. Makeup Brushes & Makeup Sponge (the BEST!) Chanel CC Cream This one is my splurge but it lasts forever and adds an spf 50 layer! I never use foundation. My other favorite cc cream at a little better price point is here. I toggle between the two. Tarte Shape Tape Concealer I started using this about a year ago and I will never stop. Bare Minerals Mineral Foundation This acts like a powder and evens everything out for the perfect base layer. I have literally been using this for a decade or more. Becca Under Eye Brightening Corrector Pure magic. That is all. Urban Decay Naked Basics Eye Palette The link is for the palette that is a bit cheaper and includes my favorite colors. Too Faced Bronzer My go to for under my cheekbones and on the top of my forehead for a bit of glow. NARS blush This is a cult favorite and for good reason. It is the only color I ever use. Wet 'n Wild lip liner Seriously the best. Yes, it's Wet 'n Wild. Yes it's cheap. Trust me. Sex Kitten Eyeliner I love a good liquid black eyeliner that doesn't move or flake during the day. This one is a winner! NYX Brow Pencil Another money saver that works like a charm. Seriously my favorite brow pencil ever. Anastasia Brow Gel Keeps those brows in place all day! Maybelline Tatoo Studio Eye Pencil (white) I use this on my water line to brighten my eyes. I love the look it gives! L'Oreal Lash Paradise Primer I didn't think I needed a lash primer until I started using one. I never deal with smudges or mascara that flakes. L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara Do not buy high end mascara...I already tried them all for you. This drugstore brand is my very favorite! Hot Lips Lip Gloss I love the look and feel of this gloss. If I can ever go without a mask, maybe you can see it in person too! Isn't makeup fun?! I hope this post helps you find a new product or two to add to your makeup routine. Do you have a favorite product that I need to buy? I'd love to hear your recommendations! Also, If you don't already follow me on the liketoknow.it app, would you consider doing so? I have set some goals for myself over there and new followers help me reach them! Simply download the app from the app store, set up an account with your email, search for Deanna Zehr and give me a follow! Easy, fast and free. :) Have a beautiful weekend! xo, Deanna

This famous Chicago casserole is usually attributed to the DeJonghe brothers, restauranteurs and hotel owners who hailed from Belgium. They reportedly served this dish at the Chicago World’s Fair of 1893, although it’s unclear whether they themselves or their chef, Emil Zehr, deserve credit for the original recipe. The casserole is particularly rich and luxurious, hallmarks of popular turn-of-the-century restaurant fare: Shrimp are bathed in a buttery garlic sauce and topped with sherry-coated breadcrumbs spiced with herbs like parsley and tarragon (some versions also include chervil and marjoram). Originally, the shrimp were boiled and then baked, but we think eliminating that step streamlines the recipe and leaves the shrimp more tender. This dish is hearty enough for a main dish but works just as well for an appetizer.

Last year in South Korea, middle school teachers Yongseung Roh and Kyungyun Hwang read Howard Zehr’s seminal text Changing Lenses with a study group. This year, they were part of a South Korean delegation that came to Eastern Mennonite University.
Art Aigner, a reader from Elma, asked, “How do I prevent my iris blooms from laying over?” Mark Van Buren of Zehr’s on the Lake Farm Market and Nursery offered a couple solutions. The problem may be that that the rhizome or root or “toe” of the plant isn’t deep enough. Van Buren said that 50 percent of the rhizome should be exposed and 50 percent should be under the soil. He suggested staking the iris with small bamboo stakes...
