"I Got The Rhythm" by Frank Morrison 16 x 20 inches Edition of 20 on watercolor paper ABOUT FRANK MORRISON: Frank Morrison, born in 1971, began his artistic journey as a graffiti artist in New Jersey, later evolving his style through influences from hip-hop culture, urban mannerism, graffiti, and abstract contemporary art. His work captures the everyday lives of African-Americans, preserving the essence of urban life and honoring the often-overlooked human stories. Citing Ernie Barnes and Annie Lee as influences, Morrison’s paintings are deeply rooted in the rhythms of city life and hip-hop culture. His work has been showcased in prominent art fairs and galleries, and he has been commissioned by notable figures like Swizz Beats and Jordan Peele. Additionally, Morrison is an acclaimed illustrator of award-winning children's books, and he continues to express his gratitude for the journey that brought him to his current success by signing his works “TTG” (“Thanks to God”). He resides in Atlanta, Georgia, with his wife and five children. Through the process of observing, discussing and creating a poupou ākonga will make connections with the symbols, content, patterns and importance of this Māori art medium. Before the era of photography these pou recorded and represented important ancestors, events and tribal stories in the medium of whakairo (carving). This beautiful art form still remains and modern-day interpretations continue to amaze viewers with their visual stories. This resource was designed and copyrighted by © thetereomaoriclassroom2017.
