The White Queen - Giulia Valente - The White Queen from Wonderland series, by Italian fine art portrait photographer Giulia Valente
You won't believe these incredible artworks are photographs and not actual paintings!
"Garden at Vaucresson," by Édouard Vuillard (1920, reworked 1926, 1935, 1936) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 7.5" x 10.19") • 12" x 16" (Image: 10" x 13.56") • 16" x 20" (Image: 12.5" x 17") • 20" x 24" (Image: 14.75" x 20") • 24" x 30" (Image: 18.38" x 25") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK ----------------------------- A member of the French avant-garde group Les Nabis ("The Prophets"), Édouard Vuillard challenged the traditionally held belief that art should attempt to recreate nature. However skilled the artist, a painting could only ever be, as his colleague Maurice Denis put it, "a flat surface covered with colors assembled in a certain order,"—but it needn't pretend to be anything else. Rather, Vuillard downplayed naturalistic detail in order to emphasize the aesthetic properties of line, color and form; bringing these to the fore in a manner that not only rendered his work beautiful in a strictly abstract sense, but also expressed his feelings toward the subject. Whereas the academic realists of the era were amply equipped to reproduce what they saw, Vuillard and the Nabis were better enabling artists to communicate how they saw. "Garden at Vaucresson" is illustrative of a prominent theme in Vuillard's work: the tension between indoor and outdoor spaces, the natural and artificial. Whereas his interior scenes emphasized architectural structure and geometry to a degree sometimes served to stifle and constrain his subjects, his natural environments were rendered in winding lines and energetic patterns evocative of growth and recreation. ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized. The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements. These modifications — sometimes trivial, sometimes ludicrous — are not always shown in the product photos. We believe that the purpose of art is not to fill a frame; it is the purpose of a frame to showcase the art. Our prints have inset borders that make up any differences in proportion between the artwork and a standard frame, so that you can experience the art as the artist intended. They look sharp in beveled mats, may be float mounted, or inserted directly into standard frames; the borders providing a mat-like accent around the image. There are many styles from which to choose. Framing is a fun, creative process that enhances the artwork and livens your space for years to come. Should you like any advice, feel free to reach out. CUSTOMIZATION AND IMAGE REQUESTS ----------------------------- We are happy to customize our prints to fit your frame. Borderless prints may require the artwork to be cropped to fit a new aspect ratio. In such cases, we will provide a mockup to ensure that the final product meets with your approval. If you’re looking for an artwork that is not in our catalog, feel free to ask if we can provide it. We will print any public domain or openly licensed image that is available in high resolution. MUSEUM QUALITY ----------------------------- Giclée process prints are the gold standard in fine art reproduction. We use a matte finish, cotton fiber paper to maximize detail while eliminating glare. Our prints display a wide color gamut, deep blacks and beautiful tonal transitions. Produced using only archival materials, they will not fade or yellow, but maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. HANDMADE DECLARATION ----------------------------- To assure artistic quality, all of our production and design is strictly in-house. Every print has been proofed, calibrated and inspected for defects. We do not drop ship, resell or make use of third-party production partners. SHIPPING AND PACKAGING ----------------------------- All orders ship within one business day via USPS First Class, Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express. Sizes 9” x 12” and 12” x 16” ship in a flat configuration, unless combined with larger prints, which require tubes. We will replace any lost or damaged items at no expense to you. HAPPINESS GUARANTEE ----------------------------- We will promptly address any issues that may arise with your order. If you are unhappy with your print for any reason, you are welcome to return it for a full refund.

About The Artwork Description"Peace" was created on a beach in Mexico -- I found these vintage lanterns and wanted to capture the special light that happens when "twilight" arrives with its golden hues. There is only about a half hour of twilight before it starts to get dark, and as you wait for it, you can see the glow start to do its magic. The reflections on the wet sand are the most beautiful colors I have ever seen. The beach brings me peace, and so did this painting. It is hanging in the mansion of the woman who wrote "The Secret", Rhonda Byrne -- I created the painting especially for her. My intention was to have the viewer feel the beach and feel at "peace". Anything is Possible! I would love to hear from you, so please contact me at the above link! This painting has won several awards in national juried art competitions, and images of this painting are sought after by many collectors. The women in Zhang Jingna's photographs look so pristine that at a first glance, they appear painted. The New York-based artist styles them in flowing, ruffled gowns and adorns them with flowers and jewels.
The reputation of Anders Zorn (1860-1920) continues to climb along with those of his friends John Singer Sargent and Joaquin Sorolla, each of whom made a good living painting portraits while doing other painting on the side, sometimes for cash and otherwise simply for the enjoyment of doing it. There are two major Zorn exhibits in the United States in 2013. In the first part of the year was one held at the Isabella Steward Gardner Museum in Boston, and starting in the fall is one at San Francisco's California Palace of the Legion of Honor. Biographical information on Zorn can be found here and here. As mentioned, Zorn was a leading portrait painter. He is also known for his etchings and the many paintings of nicely padded young, nude Swedish women in the outdoors. As I recall, one of the essays in the Gardner exhibit catalog mentioned that Zorn didn't seem interested in painting still lifes. And a quick scroll through Zorn images on Google suggests that he didn't paint many pure landscapes either; his outdoor scenes normally included people -- especially those nudes. But he did manage to paint some genre scenes. Here are a few: Gallery Impressions of London - c.1885 Could this be of one of those notorious "pea soupers" that used to plague the city? In the Harbor of Algiers - 1887 Yes, the place still looks something like that as best I remember. But instead of those women, what I mostly noticed were tourists embarking and debarking Spanish ferries. Valsen - 1891 A highly unusually setting for Zorn. Omnibus (1st version - 1891-92) Omnibus (2nd version) - 1892 Passengers crammed into a Paris horse-drawn omnibus must have fascinated Zorn because from this setting he made at least several studies, two paintings and one etching (of the final painting). I think his depiction of the beam of light on the cheek and coat of the women in the foreground is a brilliant concept well-executed. Night Effect - 1895 This painting was controversial in its time because the subject was (or was thought to have been) a drunken prostitute. Midsummer Dance - 1897 Perhaps Zorn's most iconic genre work.
