Explore The Butchart Gardens and Victoria BC in this plant enthused travel post highlighting history and gardens of Victoria BC.
This place is very famous so we decided to visit it on our first full day in Victoria. This is a snail fountain. Originally, this was a quarry. The wife of the owner, Jennie Butchart, came up with the idea of turning it into a garden on the scale of the great European gardens in 1904. The views and vistas are magnificent. Everything that should be in a garden is here. As a result of this place being so famous, it is unbelievably crowded. I have chosen pix that don't have too many people in them, but, believe me, it was a zoo. Gorgeous trees. These are topiary rabbits. The rose garden was over the top. Of course, there was boat access to the water. A copy of an English garden. This reminded me of Powers Court in Ireland. This is part of the Italian gardens. Mercury, the messenger. A riot of color. The Mediterranean garden.

One of my favorites places on the planet! The world famous Butchart Gardens in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. These Zinnias can grow quite nicely here in Utah. They will want a sunny location. A Dusty Miller (grey plants) border is always nice. You want different colors and textures in your flower bed. Lots of running water always makes for a beautiful garden! Look for a great blog post next week about tips for summer planting in Utah -- how to make your own mini Butchart Gardens!
