We wrapped up Friendship Week today. We did a lot of discussing what it means to do a friend and what are some fun/safe things you can do with your friend. I created this fun matching game to use in our sensory bin. I dyed some rice for the first time and it turned out perfect! It also reminded me of grass, so I found pictures of kids on the playground. On the cards I wrote words that describe what a good friend does, like share, help, kind, etc. Then, we picked a card, read the word, and discussed the word more. I added these fun "Buddy Builders" from Amazon and they were perfect "friends" for our park. This book is a great way to talk about the nice things our hands can do. Especially, if you have any kiddos who like to use their hands in an unsafe way ;) I also dyed noodles for the first time, too! We used those noodles to make friendship necklaces! We also used a bead kit for friendship bracelets :) Click on image to grab this bead kit! These peanut butter and jelly color matching cards were a huge hit! We played restaurant and worked together to serve the correct colors. I got these from The Homestead Teacher! Grab them HERE! We like to think of words that start with each letter. When we are out, we will see a letter and I always have to think of something that starts with that letter. It totally helps connect learning, so I made these "F is for friends!" page and we decorated the 'f' different supplies. For our play dough invitation, I printed off this cute friendship clip art set from Creative Clips! We put the friends in our play dough and pretended we were playing at the park! The last game we did was this fun math activity! We had to help the boy get to his friends by rolling our dice and counting each circle. It was a great way to practice some counting, number identification, and taking turns! Grab these activities HERE! *NOTE: the play dough friends are not included in this due to terms of use, but they are free for you to download HERE!

Sorting is a fun activity to do and a great skill to have when in preschool and kindergarten. A good place to start when beginning to sort is with colors. Colors are everywhere and most likely you have colored objects around your class or house. A fun activity that I found all over Pinterest was a object color sort using objects around your house/classroom! We used our big lego blocks to sort by color. I laid out colored construction paper and we put the blocks on each paper to match the color. We are totally into hiding things and finding them, so you could also "hide" the blocks and have your kiddos find the blocks. I also have created a fun color sorting center that you can use. It is laid out the same way, but I have included colored object cards to sort. Plus, there is a color match worksheet included. Your kiddos will color each picture the correct color.
Happy Tuesday! Today we painted with toothbrushes! I made some shaving cream paint using shaving cream and glue! We took toothbrushes and painted a giant tooth! It was a perfect fine motor and sensory activity-even though not everyone was a fan of the "paint" getting on their hands :) Someone had other ideas with their tooth and colored it a little first! It was actually perfect because then we had to really "brush" to get it "clean"! Grab this printable HERE! You could also squirt some shaving cream on a table and use the toothbrushes to practice brushing, too!

I found a cute pin on Pinterest for my community helpers unit. I thought it would be a great activity for MATH. Yes, MATH! I created a FREEBIE that can be used during your community helper unit for your math block. You can cut out the shapes yourself out of construction paper or you can print the templates on various colors have have your kiddos cut them out. The wheels can be printed on white and then colored black or you can cut out the wheels yourself. How cute!? If you wanted to add more to it, you could have your kiddos write simple about garbage trucks do on the back.
I never cease to be amazed at the energy and creativity of the Eureka Schools Foundation volunteers as they hosted another extremely successful fundraising event. Not only did they raise a lot of money at the ESF Art Auction & Music Exhibition on Friday night, but they provided an evening full of entertainment and fun for the whole community. The place was packed with parents, frantically bidding on the artwork created by the students and teachers. Kids were running around from booth to booth, where principals and teachers were in charge of a variety of art projects such as making a collage and face painting. While parents, teachers and students enjoyed listening to the band and choirs from all the different schools who performed throughout evening. There were plenty of fun, food and festivities for the families of the Eureka school district. Another great ESF fundraiser! Some of my favorite art projects that were being auctioned off that evening. This is one of my favorites, "Live, laugh, love, play!" which was created by Mrs. Hagan's class. It was so clever and cute that even though I didn't have a kid in the class, I just had to bid on it! Mrs. Hagan had each student lay down on a white sheet to form the letters in each word. Then she got up on a ladder and shot the photo looking down on them. Then she said she created this poster using Shutterfly. So clever! Why didn't she do this when Tyler or Allie were in her class?! Here is Alex, one of the triplets that live next door, who is standing next to the items that her class made. The triplets, along with their big sister Katie, come and visit me on a regular basis.. so I don't miss my own kids so much and I love it! We do homework together. They come help me clean out my candy jars and my pantry too. And I call them whenever I need to go grocery shopping so I don't have to go alone. Gosh! I really love those girls and it was fun to see them that night! More artwork! Dad was one of the sponsors for the event so Renee, the triplets mom, who was the MC that night, called Dad and Dr. Anello up out of the audience to introduce them... and then the next thing you know, she hands the mike to Dad. Without any warning or notice, Dad grabbed the mike and greeted the audience, talked about what a great event it was, introduced Jina (Dr. Anello) and chatted it up with the crowd. He was a natural! I knew that he was in his element when he struck this poise! And this is my favorite photo from the evening! This is my next door neighbor, Renee, mother of the triplets and cute Katie, past ESF President, past Auction Chairperson, best organizer and volunteer on so many ESF fundraisers, probably one of the biggest contributor in time and money to the ESF and to our community. She is so generous and so wonderful in so many ways that she deserves a blogpost all about her so I will stop there and save it for another day. But I will tell you that she had surgery less than 2 weeks ago then landed back in the hospital last week. She was told that she supposed to take it easy and even though she was scheduled to be the MC, that she should relinquish her duties that night... Right?!!! We all knew that wasn't going to happen. She just couldn't sit around and watch all the action take place around her. Sure enough, she was up on the stage halfway through the evening, much to everyone's surprise and joy. She is definitely loved by all! Holt Orthodontics had a booth and here are Carrie and Sandy, and Sandy's daughter, making balloon animals and flowers for the children. You can tell that they had a good time making the balloons and entertaining the children. Kim, Jina and myself with Renee at the end of the night. And Dad with the BracesbyHolt gals, proud sponsors and best bunch of balloon makers and wire benders in town.

I've been talking a lot about bread lately and it's because I just got back from bread camp in Louisville, KY. I usually don't dive into bread too deeply on my blog because it can be a little more labor intensive than most of my recipes, and I'm not sure there are enough folks that
Happy Tuesday! We are finishing up our camping week(s) this week! Today we did a fun color sorting and matching activity! I took our counting bears and put them in a sensory bin filled with beans. We took our matching mat and matched the bears based on their color! There are two different mats-different amounts of bears to sort on each one. After we matched, we put the bears back and used our sorting cards to sort by color! You can grab this activity for free HERE! *This post includes affiliate links*
