This tipped-in art plate was salvaged from the 1972 book "Impressionism: a Biographical and Critical Study, Second Volume" by Jean Leymarie. The print features the art print Sel-Portrait, 1873 by Camille Pissarro. Pissarro sits in his studio with sketches behind him as he looks in a mirror. The original hangs in the Louvre in Paris. A "tipped in" plate is an illustration or print which was not part of the press impression, but was added at a later stage by hand, dabbing minute amounts of glue onto the edge or corners of the plate to be pasted into the book. The print on this page measures 3 7/8ths" by 4 1/2". The page itself measures 6 7/8ths" by 6 3/16ths". The page is clean with crisp corners and minor creasing where it was attached to the the spine. Framed and matted these minor imperfections in the margin would not be seen. Vintage prints are always the perfect decorating choice for any room in your home or office. The illustration would also be great for use in your collage, mixed media or altered art projects. Browse my store for other prints to complete a matching wall grouping or for other areas of interest.

"Diana and Actaeon (Diana Surprised at Her Bath)," by Camille Corot (1836) DIMENSIONS • 9" x 12" (Image: 7.5" x 10.5") • 12" x 16" (Image: 10" x 14") • 16" x 20" (Image: 12.19" x 17") • 20" x 24" (Image: 14.31" x 20") • 24" x 30" (Image: 17.88" x 25") Archival Inkjet on Fine Art Paper Smooth Surface - Matte Finish - Inset Borders ABOUT THE ARTWORK ----------------------------- Camille Corot entered his profession as landscape painting was undergoing a revival. The genre had been roughly divided into two camps: Northern European realists who faithfully reproduced real settings and populated them with modern peasants, and Southern Neoclassicists who placed ancient, mythological, or religious figures in idealized landscapes. Corot drew freely from both, as in this representation of the story of Diana and Actaeon, set amid a French forest. As described in Ovid's "Metamorphosis," Actaeon was an unfortunate young hunter who stumbled upon the goddess Diana at her bath. As her nymphs hurried to cover her, she splashed water on Actaeon, transforming him into a stag. Fleeing the scene, he was chased and killed by his own dogs. Mixing Neoclassicism and Realism in this way, Corot annoyed contemporary critics, who held art to rigid and often arbitrary standards. "If M. Corot would kill, once and for all, the nymphs of his woods and replace them with peasants," said one, "I should like him beyond measure." ART-CENTRIC DESIGN ----------------------------- Vintage art is not standardized. The original works are usually too long, or too short, to neatly fill a store-bought frame. Most shops arbitrarily crop the artwork to match, leading to claustrophobic prints with missing or partial elements. These modifications — sometimes trivial, sometimes ludicrous — are not always shown in the product photos. We believe that the purpose of art is not to fill a frame; it is the purpose of a frame to showcase the art. Our prints have inset borders that make up any differences in proportion between the artwork and a standard frame, so that you can experience the art as the artist intended. They look sharp in beveled mats, may be float mounted, or inserted directly into standard frames; the borders providing a mat-like accent around the image. There are many styles from which to choose. Framing is a fun, creative process that enhances the artwork and livens your space for years to come. Should you like any advice, feel free to reach out. CUSTOMIZATION AND IMAGE REQUESTS ----------------------------- We are happy to customize our prints to fit your frame. Borderless prints may require the artwork to be cropped to fit a new aspect ratio. In such cases, we will provide a mockup to ensure that the final product meets with your approval. If you’re looking for an artwork that is not in our catalog, feel free to ask if we can provide it. We will print any public domain or openly licensed image that is available in high resolution. MUSEUM QUALITY ----------------------------- Giclée process prints are the gold standard in fine art reproduction. We use a matte finish, cotton fiber paper to maximize detail while eliminating glare. Our prints display a wide color gamut, deep blacks and beautiful tonal transitions. Produced using only archival materials, they will not fade or yellow, but maintain their original quality for as long as you own them. HANDMADE DECLARATION ----------------------------- To assure artistic quality, all of our production and design is strictly in-house. Every print has been proofed, calibrated and inspected for defects. We do not drop ship, resell or make use of third-party production partners. SHIPPING AND PACKAGING ----------------------------- All orders ship within one business day via USPS First Class, Priority Mail or Priority Mail Express. Sizes 9” x 12” and 12” x 16” ship in a flat configuration, unless combined with larger prints, which require tubes. We will replace any lost or damaged items at no expense to you. HAPPINESS GUARANTEE ----------------------------- We will promptly address any issues that may arise with your order. If you are unhappy with your print for any reason, you are welcome to return it for a full refund.

It's Day 3 of Fabric Refresh Week and I can hardly believe it's halfway over already! So far we've been inspired by Tula Pink's Everglow and AGF Studio's Spooky 'n Witchy. Have you been remembering to use the coupon codes to save on the featured patterns each day? They're only good for a couple of days so if you missed out on the first two, make sure to keep reading so that you don't miss today's code! Today I'm featuring a collection with a much more traditional feel to it. You might know Camille Roskelley as one half of the mother-daughter team behind the super popular Bonnie and Camille fabrics from Moda Fabrics. Since Bonnie has retired, Camille has been continuing on her own and I fell in love with her Sunnyside collection as soon as she first debuted it (it was the burgundy prints that got me!) and then had to wait months for it be available! Well, it's finally here and I already grabbed some for a couple of future pattern samples. You'll have to wait a while to see those but you should grab some Sunnyside fabric now and if you need some ideas of what to make with it, this is the blog post for you! The first pattern that I refreshed in Sunnyside was Americana. I love star quilts and while the pattern was named for the reds and blues used in the original cover quilt, this pattern looks great in a variety of fabrics and I love it in Sunnyside. These colors together make me think of a beautiful garden. This pattern uses 18 fat quarters so you can pick a wide variety of colors and prints to make a very colorful and scrappy-looking quilt. Next up is Evening Glow, another fat quarter friendly pattern. You can actually use a combination of a layer cake and two charm packs to make this, but I stuck with the fat quarter option when making this mock-up. I really wanted to use the navy background and if I used precuts, I don't think I would have had enough pieces without needing to use navy ones that would have blended in too much. Even the prints on white backgrounds might have blended in with the white accent too much. I was able to pick 16 of my favorite prints that contrasted well with both the navy and white and I love how it turned out! Shining Stars also uses fat quarters and since you only need 11 fat quarters, you have more chances to create some pretty color combinations. I'm sharing two here. The first version uses one of the lighter blue prints as the background and is offset by a colorful variety of colors for the stars. The second version has a light pink background and I used a more limited color palette for the stars by focusing on mostly the burgundy, dark green, and navy prints. I have one more fat quarter quilt to share before I move on to a couple of jelly roll patterns. Starry Skies is a great pattern if you like star quilts and chain quilts. Both seem to be popular and this pattern combines the two into one great quilt! I used a navy print for the chains. The next refreshed pattern is Ophelia. I know I said that I was done with fat quarter quilts for today and this pattern does have a fat quarter option, but it's also a jelly roll pattern and that's what I pretended I was using when refreshing this quilt with Sunnyside. Moda Fabrics was the original creator of the precuts, after all. You might as well take advantage of those precuts when you can and cut down on your cutting! You can use any color you'd like for the cornerstones in this quilt. For this mock-up, I went with a dark green print. Before I get to the final quilt for today's Fabric Refresh post, I need to give you the coupon code for today's featured patterns. Use code SUNNY20 for the next two days to save 20% on all of the patterns mentioned in this post. Don’t wait because this code expires tomorrow at midnight (evening of Thursday, June 8th at midnight Central time). Okay, now for the final quilt for today's Sunnyside Fabric Refresh post. Window Box is another jelly roll quilt and one of my more popular patterns. This is a quick quilt that is a great option for a newer quilter. It uses less strips from a jelly roll than Ophelia does so this is a good option if you want to be able to leave out some of your least favorite prints. That's all for today! If you want to grab any of these patterns to use with Sunnyside or another fabric, make sure to use the coupon code I mentioned earlier as soon as possible before it expires. It will be good until tomorrow night, Thursday June 8th at midnight Central time. If you're seeing this post several days or longer after it was originally posted, be sure to sign up for my newsletter HERE so that you never miss out on a sale! Be sure to check back here tomorrow for Day 4 of Fabric Refresh Week! If you missed either of this week's previous posts, you can find them here: Everglow by Tula Pink Spooky 'n Witchy by AGF Studio Until next time, Amanda
The 2nd Grade students studied the artist Vincent Van Gogh and his artwork. We also read the book, Camille and the Sunflowers. The students were able to create a giant sunflower creating emphasis in their artwork. Then they were shown how to blend colors using oil pastels. The students had to choose a cool color for their background to make their sunflower "pop" in their piece of art.
