WHY OUR NOSING IS THE ONLY REAL CHOICE FOR DURABILITY: Unlike other vinyl nosing, our shaping process involves even controlled and DIFFUSED HEAT. Our heating method, combined with our specific plank preparation, prevents fissures and hidden stress fractures. Fissures and fractures happen as a result of sharp temperature gradients in the material and uneven heating. Such as with a heat gun or lack of proper material preparation. Salty Custom Vinyl nosing is the ONLY nosing shaped with HEAT DIFFUSSION. This process protects the structural integrity of the core material. This material integrity is critical for performance and DURABILITY. IMPORTANT NOTE: Nosing will come with a slight horizontal deflection. This deflection is designed for a more durable and long lasting installation and may require additional installation step/s for some planks. These steps may require the use of bar clamps, a straight edge clamping surface (example: 2x10 or 1x10 lumber), and/or painters tape when aligning the joint mechanisms of the Nosing and Plank (to be fused with CA glue). Many planks have weak or ineffective joint mechanisms. For planks with a more robust mechanism (click joint) the use of tape may be sufficient. These methods will ensure you achieve a tight, perfect joint for each tread. If you or your installer are at all uncomfortable with these additional steps or do not have the necessary tools; it is strongly recommended that you include this step with your order. THE OTHER GUYS: Most sources for custom nosing do not understand the importance of controlling and managing heat throughout the material. Even fewer understand HEAT DIFFUSION. Virtually all other custom nosing options will either: 1) Heat and bend the full material without diffusing the heat, resulting in fissures just below the wear layer. (All nosing made with a heat gun will have these fissures) OR 2) Cut a V channel in the core material (no heat) then fold the vinyl over a sharp 90 deg edge. - Fissures will result in discoloration, eventually becoming visible as tears in the vinyl layer. A sharp 90 degree edge of core material will wear through like a knife. Both these methods will cause discoloration, uneven wear and a compromised structural core. This damage may not be noticeable when new but can result in material failure as soon as in 1-2 years. For VALUE that will LAST & perform as well as your floor choose Salty Custom Vinyl. - IMPORTANT WORD OF WARNING: If you are thinking of doing your own nosing with a heat gun be aware that you will most certainly have fissures beneath the wear layer. These areas will inevitably tear/fail before your floor does. (see 2nd photo). Stair nosing that fails 3x-10x faster than a floor make precisely no one happy! If you put the work into shaping & installing them yourself... when they fail... it can be soul crushing. DON'T LET THIS BE YOU!
