Memory aids are often used to help students remember certain spelling rules. The FLoSS rule is one of the first spelling rules taught to our first and second grade students to help them understand when to double the final “f”, “l” and “s” consonants at the end of certain words. The word “floss” actually follows the FLoSS […]
Hello Everyone!! In January we will dive into reading, writing, and spelling long vowel words. We will begin with "Open Vowel Words" That unit is included in my Happy New Year unit. After that we will work on using the infamous Silent E. Last year we used the fun "Sneaky E" puppets and the kids looooved them. This year I will introduce the Silent E Gang : Sneaky E, Sparkly E, and Magic E. All are guaranteed to help kids stay engaged and have fun while learning about that important silent e on the ends of words. I put together a little packet to keep me organized, and I can't wait to do all this with my kiddos! I hope you will find them useful. The packet includes, chants, paper bag puppet patterns, stick puppet patterns for each of the gang members, and about 28 pages of short vowel words, some conventional and some nonsense for kids to practice and write. Here are a few pics of the unit. Cut out and make stick puppets for "Add an E game included in unit. For your own little silent e gang unit, click here! Unit is 32 pages- some color, most black and white. Hope you're having a great week!! I'm off to work on report cards! Classroom rules are so important! Rules are kind of like the flour in a cookie-without it your classroom will fall flat. Students will flourish when there are high, yet attainable expectations that are set in love and held with consistency. I love these “The 3 Be’s” rules because they are, what I consider, rules for life! ... Read More about Classroom Rules: The 3 Bees
Hey y'all! My kiddos were learning ALL about pronouns for the last 3 weeks - regular pronouns and possessive pronouns alike. But, I wanted to make sure they understood pronouns in general. So, we made "Pronoun Flowers." Kelley from Teacher Idea Factory originally came up with the idea of Pronoun Patch flowers, but I created my own template to go ahead and get copies of each of the parts - the center, the petals, the leaves, and the stems. We called ours Pronoun Flowers and decorated our portion of the hallway with them. They turned out SO fantastic. The kiddos truly did learn a lot, too, and began to understand pronouns like pros. I had a few that struggled but once we reviewed the ideas behinds pronouns and why we use them, along with HOW we use them, they caught right on. I attribute the success of this mini-project to their success on their grammar test over pronouns! Our display in the hallway. The pronoun "them" - this kiddo got it! They struggled with the pronoun "it," but once we gave examples, they understood it! Another "it" example! I know we had the pronoun "them" up above, but my kiddos truly did struggle with "them." They wanted to include themselves, but little did they realize that it would make it "WE" or "US." Finally, they got it! Both students using them were able to provide great examples. Finally, they loved the he/she/him/her pronouns the best. It was easiest for them and they were able to get these down quickly. Overall, the activity was a success! I truly enjoyed it and I loved how bright and fun our hallway looked - we got lots of compliments on such a cute activity, so I thank Kelley for the FANTASTIC idea!! Anything specific you use to teach pronouns?

My new obsession this year has been making and using anchor charts for my lessons. Here are just some of the anchor charts I have made this year. Some of these charts are original ideas but many are ideas I have seen and used from other teachers. I am not good at drawing so I use clipart from my computer to add pictures to my anchor charts. I print them out and glue them onto the chart! It’s so much easier and looks so much better than what I could draw! I also laminate my anchor charts so I can use them year to year. By laminating the charts I can easily write and erase on them by using an Expo marker. Would you like to decorate your classroom with fun, hand-drawn anchor charts/posters? Do you simply not have the time to get them done? Well, you have come to the perfect place! I love making these engaging and appealing anchor charts. I also can draw/create any other topic you would like, just contact me directly and ask! My students absolutely love these posters and references them every day. Many of them are visual learners, so the colorful images really help them connect and remember what they have learned. This particular anchor chart is for readers/writers practicing the "bonus letter" or "floss rule". My students absolutely loved using the floss rule to help them build words and read these in passages. They loved using the anchor chart as a visual reference and had fun with the pictures/colors. **These will be copies unless asked otherwise for a custom poster. They are not laminated, and are printed on normal, anchor chart paper. I ship these out ASAP after being ordered, but please keep in mind once shipped, it is outside of my control. Therefore, if shipping does not meet your expectations, I highly encourage you to please reach out to me first, and we have always been able to work something out to make up for anything that may have occurred after I have sent your package, thanks so much!! Hope you love it :)
