Hello Everyone! We have been working hard this week on identifying coins and telling their value. Today we created a whole group game to help with cementing those ideas. We made a "Bigger than Life" gameboard (you know my love of those shower curtain sized gameboards!). We divided the board into 25 sections with tape and then filled each section with either a coin, the coin's name, the value, or the value words. We taped paper coins to a foam die. The kids took turns rolling the die and covering something on the board that matched with the coin rolled. We played until we had 5 in a row covered! The kids were completely engaged for the entire game, helping each other and cheering when we finally had 5 in a row. A smaller version of this game will become a math tub game for next week. You can get a printable of this game including large cards for the whole group lesson and small game board for math tubs.Simply CLICK HERE!!! :) It's FREE! (I am hoping that google docs is cooperating. Every time I upload things lately, it looks different. Remember, you can always e-mail me and I will send you the doc that way!) Next week we will begin a reading/social studies unit on family wants and needs. I have shared my "Me and My Family" before, but I added some elements using two favorite books, "A Chair for My Mother," and "The Relatives Came." You can get this printable! You don't even need to save!! All you need to do is CLICK HERE!!! :) I hope!! Ok!! I've got stuff to do to get ready for our SCI FRI tomorrow!! Magnet fun!! Yippee!! Have a fantastic Friday!! Joyfully! Nancy

The last two days have been crazy! We had picture day yesterday. Have I mentioned that I hate pictures? I don't know why, but I just don't like them. Probably because you can see that extra donut I grabbed or the fact I have chipmunk cheeks. They have just never been my idea of fun. They were also in the room across from me this year which stressed me a little. I kept thinking that it was going to be loud or that my students' work would be on the floor. I also kept thinking that my kiddos would definitely get into some sort of trouble. The good thing is I have learned in life that 99% of things you think will happen, never do. Well, in this case it was true. The person helping with photos was a champ! I swear I had no idea that anyone was across from me. To top it off, my kiddos stayed focused and on task. Outside of HAVING to get my picture made, it was a pretty great day. Then, today was just an awesome day! One of my kiddos got to the end of our math fluency wall. She literally is fluent in all of her addition math facts. Since that's a pretty big deal, we went to visit the principal and she got TWO surprises. She also got an ice cream and a note home telling her mom. I don't think I've ever seen a kid with a bigger grin. We also got to work on one or two fun little projects which I will definitely be blogging about tomorrow. Now, I have a little good news. I finally finished my Fall Printables packet. Below are pictures of a lot of the pages. You can click on any of them to go check it out on TPT. Four of the pages are free in the preview, so be sure to go check the preview. If you are wanting it, definitely get it by Saturday morning. I have it on sale. It's really on sale until tomorrow night, but since I'm telling you guys a little late, I'm going to leave it until Saturday morning. Oh, and just so you know the common core standard is at the bottom of each page. Typically, I use some of my printables as review or morning work and some as assessments. I created two sheets for almost every standard, so you could use one as a review and one as an assessment or you can use both as an assessment. Really... it's completely up to you. I try to make it where it can be adjusted to be whatever you need. I know that I'm posting tons of pictures, but I know I like to see what I am getting, so I'm guessing you guys are the same way. Up next, Winter Printables (Crazy, huh?) and Morning Work: 3rd 9 Weeks. In case I haven't told you guys lately, thanks for your feedback and support. I know I haven't done great with answering, but I read everything and your comments are making me smile :) If you aren't following me on FB, definitely think about doing that. In around two weeks, I am going to be in a Facebook 1st Grade Hop that will have TONS of freebies (If you follow our pages). See you guys tomorrow and don't stay up too late! It is a school night y'all!

I can hardly believe our second week of school is almost over! I know most of you are going to start soon so I wanted to share what we have been up to this week: learning all about rules and laws! I used several activities from my new Rules & Laws unit. We started the week off reading the short book I wrote in the unit: Next, we talked about examples of rules and laws. We learned that rules are things we follow to keep us safe. Laws are rules that all people in a community must follow. We brainstormed examples of each and the kids filled out webs: The next day we read one of my favorite books, David Goes to School. The kids read along with me and we laughed a lot! I then gave the kids a sheet where they chose a rule, illustrated themselves following the rule and also what would happen if no one followed that rule: (helping others) (clean up my room) (pick up books) The next day we talked about how there are different rules depending on the setting (school, home, playground, etc.) The kids worked on a rule book where they had to write and illustrate a rule for each setting: (Don't run from school) (Raise your hand) (Listen to your Mom) (No throwing rocks) (Sit down and do not stand up) Today I read them one of my favorite books about rules: Please Play Safe! Penguin's Guide to Playground Safety. We just got a new playground so this book was a perfect way to review safety on the playground. Finally we created a class book about why we need rules: (we can stay safe and we can't be mean) (we could be safe and work and make us happy) (it helps us be safe) (something bad could happen) We had a great time learning about rules! If you liked these activities, check out my unit by clicking on the picture below! First two people to comment will get a free copy! Don't forget to include your email!

Hello Everyone! This week we will begin our study of nouns and verbs. I wanted to do a quick share of something my cuties will be working on. I love the story "The little Old Lady Who Wasn't Afraid of Anything." by Linda Williams. I plan on using this book to study several different things. First off? Nouns! I wrote a little noun song and plan to use it to find all the nouns in the story. I created a quick little cut and glue sorting activity with pics from the story and then a recording page for the kids to write the nouns. Here are a few sample pics of the unit. For your 9 page printable, click here! Unless you're afraid!! :) Keep an eye out for the Verb Unit that will go along with this story as well! Joyfully! Nancy
