Description These pretty lacy mitts in two sizes (S/M, M/L) make use of a motif inspired by weeping cherry trees in bloom. Trailing branches of buds and new blossoms wind their way along one side of the asymmetrical design, while crisp twisted rib ensures a nice fit around the thumb gusset area. The highly embossed stitchwork makes for strong depth and stability, even in the silkiest of yarns. The somewhat complex pattern is made easier by working in the round, on the right side of the fabric. Gorgeous in a smooth luxury blend, this design translates nicely for cool weather in a rustic wool blend as well. This pattern is both written and charted and can be transferred to your Ravelry Library upon request. The sample shown knit in size S/M, with in Bare Naked Wools Modern Deco Lace , color Titanium . Hello there, new knitter friend! Want to learn how to knit from start to finish? We're here to help make it happen! In this video series, our founder (and knitting pro) Brett Bara demonstrates the essential skills you need to start your first knitting project: casting on, knitting, purling, and casting off. Once you learn these basic knitting skills, you'll be on your way to making tons of projects, like these Fingerless Mitts For Newbies (get the free pattern here!) Ready to get knittin'? Grab some yarn and let's get started! PS: Not sure what kind of yarn to start with if you're a beginner? We recommend a bulky yarn, which makes it easy for newbies to see their stitches as they learn. In these videos, Brett is working with Wool and The Gang Big Sexy Wool, and size US 15 Clover knitting needles. Casting On The very first step in knitting any project is casting on -- it's how you attach your yarn to your needles so you can actually start knitting. Watch this video to see how it's done. Knitting Once you've cast on for your project, it's time to knit! The knit stitch is, of course, the most basic stitch in knitting... so pull up a chair and see how it's done! Purling Once you've mastered the knit stitch, it's time to learn purling. Once you learn how to purl, you can combine knit stitches and purl stitches in tons of variations to make an infinite number of patterns and effects! It's magic, you guys! Watch this video to learn how to purl. Casting Off When your project is all done, the last step is casting off. Casting off binds off your stitches so they'll never unravel, and it's how you make your knitting project be officially done. It's super easy, so watch this video to learn how. Did you find these videos helpful? We'd love to hear about it! Share what you make and tag us @brooklyncraftcompany and #brooklyncraftcompany so we can check out your pics! Happy knitting!

Fingerless mitts for the whole family with an interesting construction method that follows the shape of the hand. Simple rib and garter stitch highlight the architectural lines and show off the subtle depth of semi-solid yarns. Using only a small amount of yarn they're an excellent way to use up leftover sock yarn. The mitts begin at the cuff which is worked in the round using the magic loop technique. A provisional cast on is used to add stitches for the hand which is worked back and forth in garter stitch with an I-cord edge and decreased across the live cuff stitches. Instead of a traditional gusset, shaping for the thumb is added by working across the hand and remaining cuff stitches, decreasing where they join to create a triangle of garter stitch across the palm. The remaining garter stitches are joined to the provisional cast on stitches above the thumb with a three needle bind off and triangular gusset that is worked downwards to join the remaining thumb stitches. The thumbs are then worked in the round. The only cast-on and bound-off edges are at the base of the cuff and the top of the thumb and the only finishing required before gifting is weaving in the ends and blocking. The pattern includes detailed step-by-step photos.

i am tres delighted with my $12 thrift store find of last friday. after bringing her home, i gave her a clean and then i popped her on. i noted the fit was tres peachy everywhere except a little bit loosey goosey on the shoulders. fret not i said to myself, nothing a little natty gathering cannot put right after some consideration i decided a cluster of pins would be most fitting for her granny chic splendor. rustling around my fabby fav pins i came up with three 1: a lovely diamante number sent from across the border from Lynn Dearie and Diana Dearie (hello hello!) 2: a little vintage daisy picked up at Spitalfield Market whilst on a pottle with my granny chic partner in crime, Rachelle and 3: a tiny vintage mosaic found at a vintage fair whilst visiting my folks last year to celebrate their 50 years of wedded bliss i wore my peachy perfect coat yesterday whilst going over the hill and across the valley to gather yarn, photo courtesy of Anna from Tolt Yarn and Wool i noted upon my return, my newly found perfectly peachy 'old coat' did wonders for making a monday into 'oh so much more than just a monday'
