About Ed OrgBorn in Shropshire in 1955, Ed had an idyllic childhood among woods, fields, secret pools and ruined barns, which helped fire his imagination for mythological work. In the 1970s Ed undertook a Foundation course at Shrewsbury College of Art, and then completed a Fine Art degree at Cheltenham College of Art, with his final degree show based on "The Lord of the Rings".Until the early 90s Ed worked as a graphic designer in the advertising industry, and then in 1993 he chose to follow his heart and leave safe employment to pursue his own path, and started to create personal works on a mythological theme in watercolour and intricate pencil drawings. He is influenced by his favourite artist, Edward Burne-Jones, but also the book illustrators, Arthur Rackham, Willy Pogany, Russell Flint, Charles Robinson, and others. The landscapes of Devon, the Lake District and local woodland are a feature in many of his pieces. His larger works can take up to 18 months to complete. Ed also produces open and limited edition prints of many of his works.Ed has undertaken numerous commissions, the most notable being several corporate designs for the Wychwood Brewery including 'Hobgoblin', 'Black Wych' and 'Fiddler's Elbow'.Ed has a strong following and many collectors across the UK and abroad.Obsidian has been showing Ed's work since we first opened in 2002, and we now showcase his work in an annual solo show.

Towering female figures fill the frame in large-scale collages by Johanna Goodman (previously). Using a range of contemporary and historic materials and visual motifs, ranging from bright red glitter to greyscale photos of classical sculptures, Goodman builds powerful protagonists from disparate materials. Elongated torsos are with clipped vintage photos, contemporary model shots, and even sculptures and paintings. Goodman places each figure in an imagined landscape—often oceanside or celestial—with the open horizon adding to the grandiosity of each “Imaginary Being”. More

Realism is more than a painting technique for some. When we look at Jeremy Lipking's realist oil paintings, we are looking at a faithful representation of life that has earned him comparisons to his art heroes like John Singer Sargent and Anders Zorn, but we are also looking at the artist himself: "I feel like throughout the duration of a painting, I can go through all the human emotions from start to finish," he says.
Capturing the raw essence of adventure and the Scottish Highlands, this expressive print portrays a duo of hikers embarking on their ascent towards the Buachaille summit in Glencoe. The vibrant composition is alive with movement and colour, featuring bold brushstrokes that convey the energy of the majestic landscape. At the forefront, two figures with brightly coloured backpacks navigate the rugged terrain, their purposeful strides and trekking poles in hand exuding a sense of determination and camaraderie. The sharp contrast of their gear against the natural environment serves as a focal point, drawing the eye into the journey that lies ahead. The painting's background is dominated by the formidable peak itself, rendered in dynamic shades of blue, white, and earthy tones, manifesting the sheer scale and beauty of the Scottish munro. Streaming light from the clear skies above bathes the scene in a radiant glow, highlighting the textures and contours of the mountainous terrain. Expressionist in style, this visual narrative eschews realism in favour of emotional impact, inviting viewers to ponder the symbiotic relationship between humans and the sublime natural world. The juxtaposition of the human element within the vast wilderness encapsulates the spirit of exploration and the awe-inspiring power of Glencoe's untamed beauty. This print belongs to our 'Glencoe' collection, a tribute to one of Scotland's most breathtaking landscapes and a testament to the intrepid spirit of those who wander its paths. It is a piece that promises to resonate with outdoor enthusiasts and art lovers alike, bringing a touch of the Highland's grandeur into any space.

Figures are subsumed in textured paint that drifts over the horizon like a thick fog in Federico Infante's mysterious configurations of oils on canvas. Infante begins by working with the background, layering different pigments in an intuitive process that yields unique hues of taupe and dusky blue. But despite their abstract nature, Infante's paintings reveal a narrative quality within his careful selection of figurative details.

Unsure of how to apply her vast natural talent in her adult life, she went to work at a design and fabrication firm. In her mid-twenties she began taking numerous classes at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and would also attend workshops at the Denver Art Students League and the Fechin Art Institute in Taos.
