Fiat 850 Coupe Sport Aluminum Parking Sign Released in 1964, the Fiat 850 was a small rear-engine rear wheel drive vehicle that was designed in the tradition of the Renault Dauphine. The internal Fiat codename for the 850 project was 100G (the G stood for the Italian word Grande). Several body styles were featured alongside the 850 that carried similar technical components and enhanced the 850 range. The Coupé was introduced for the first time 1965 at the Geneva Motor Show. It was a pretty little 4-seater coupe that was based on the 850 saloon, available in two engine sizes fitted at the rear. The Spider is also built by Bertone. - As well the Coupé (type 1: 1965-1968 / 843cc / 37 bhp) as the Spider were shown at the first time at the 1965 Geneva Motor Show. - Its name refers to the original engine size: 843cc. - There nickname was "piccolo Ferrari", "small Ferrari" because of the Ferrari-like looks. - Type 2 (1968-1970) became a more powerful engine (903cc / 52 bhp), newly shaped fenders, rubber bumper rosettes, double heat lights and dual rear lights. And the Coupé as well as the Spider getting the addition "Sport" (Sport Coupé and Sport Spider). - Both vehicles received sport seats, round speedometer and a sport steering wheel. - Type 3 (1971-1972) became more power (57 bhp) and some minor cosmetic modifications, like the bigger dual heat lights and a leather steering wheel. - From the start, all Coupes and Spiders had disc brakes at the front and drum brakes at the back. - The rear mounted engine has a four-speed manual gearbox, a Weber 30 DIC 2 carburettor, a 30 liter fuel tank and rear wheel drive. - A novelty was that the car had its own electric heater (so no heating from the rear mounted engine☺!). - The 850 series were available as 2 dr Coupé, 2 dr Saloon (Berlina), 2 dr Roadster (Spider), 2 dr station wagon (Familiare) and as 2 dr van (Furgonata).
