This is a listing for a custom, made-to-order, life-sized needle felted sculpture of a Macaw. These pictures showcase one of the macaws that I made in the past. The large scarlet macaw pictured has a wingspan of 39 inches. Needle felting is the art of sculpting wool or other fiber with a barbed needle and can be very time consuming, but very rewarding. Your sculpture will also have glass eyes. My needle felted animals are made completely by hand and are one of a kind. I also give each animal I make its own unique name. I research my subjects extensively to help me make my sculptures as true to life as possible. Your parrot will be life-sized. You can also choose if you would like it to have its wings open or closed. The price will depend on the size of your parrot and if you choose to have its wings open or not. I can also make your parrot smaller or larger than life-sized if you prefer. It will wear a metal tag of authenticity engraved with the artist's name, and will arrive with its name card signed by the artist. I ask for a 50% non refundable down payment on custom orders and the balance is paid once the sculpture is finished. Just contact me and I would be happy to make a custom down payment listing just for you and we can discuss the details of your sculpture. Currently, my wait time is approximately 2 years. This time frame is an approximation, so please let me know if you need your sculpture by a specific date. PLEASE NOTE: The shipping will increase for larger sculptures. In addition, I may not be able to ship a large parrot with its wings open to some international locations due to package size, so please contact me to make sure before you purchase. Although they are not fragile, felted animals can be picked apart if one tries hard enough, and therefore could pose a chocking hazard for very young children. If you are interested in any other animals, I would be happy to make them for you as well. I can make any species and any breed you are interested in. The day after we visited the museum, we had a relaxing Sunday filled with church, naps, and chicken and dumplings! The following Monday was also a play-at-home kind of day, and a great resting period before our last adventure with Grandma Uda. On Tuesday, the 6th of March, (the day before Grandma had to go back home) we took a trip to Kids Town in nearby Wheaton, IL. Kids Town is basically a kid size town complete with fire station, police department, construction site, dance club, playground, doctors office, and veterinary clinic! Its all about imagination and was the PERFECT place to take the girls! They got busy on the playground right away. Up and down the stairs and down the slide until grandma finally distracted them with all the fun transportation that was available. They got to drive fire trucks, sail the seas, and ride on the backs of wild animals! And when they were done, they got to chart their course on this amazing felt map (that I am determined to make for my own playroom!) Brooklyn pretended to be a veterinarian whilst carrying around a kitty in a travel box and playing the piano. That's real talent if you ask me! Then she and grandma got to put on a play... That unfortunately had to come to and end due to a short stint in prison. But no worries, they celebrated their release with an amazing dance party in the local dance club! Then, once the girls started to wind down, they said good bye to the fishies... And their new best friends, and then we headed for home. It was quite sad actually. Brooklyn had made friends with this little girl and they went everywhere together, holding hands and laughing. When it was time to go, she burst into tears at the thought of never seeing her new friend again. I felt bad for her because I wanted to cry too at the thought of saying goodbye to my mom :( My mom and I stayed up late that night, watching movies and talking about life. The next day, she packed up her bags and said goodbye. It was really hard for me to watch her go. It often gets lonely out here in Chicago and it was such a blessing to have my mom around to cheer us up and give us some good old fashioned motherly love. She will be greatly missed, but we look forward to seeing her at least one more time this year. Thanks mom for EVERYTHING! We love you!

And to help lighten the mood... here is a video of Lily dancing at Kids Town. Now I don't profess to be an expert on this, but Louise asked if needle felting was hard, so I'm going to show you how I do it. I didn't use an armature on Hyacinth, but I am using one here for this dog. Cut two pieces of pipe cleaner 4" long and one piece 3 1/2" long. Bend them into the shapes shown. It should end up looking like this. See, two leg parts and one head/body/tail part. Now twist the leg parts around the body part. With a few bends in the right places it's already starting to look like a dog. It almost takes on a life of its own. "Bad dog, stop that! Don't embarrass me in front of the nice ladies." Now take a piece of roving about 5" long and starting at the hip, wrap it around the leg working down to the foot. At the foot turn and start wrapping back up the leg. Now a word about the needles. I'm just a beginner and only have two needles. I don't know anything about size or type, and even with my little pink glasses, I can't see the barbs, but apparently there are barbs on these wickedly sharp things that sort of "tangle" the fibers together. The barbs are up a ways from the tip so you have to poke the needle through the fibers at least 1/2" to make the magic happen. Now start poking through the leg from all angles to secure the fibers. Try to avoid poking the pipe cleaner because that's bad for the needle. You can use the foam block to work on the little parts, or if you're brave and like blood, hold it in your hand. Because I guarantee, sooner or later, you will poke yourself. And like I said these things are WICKEDLY sharp. So be careful if you work in hand. Repeat that routine on all the legs, then do the tail and head and maybe two layers on the body. Your dog should eventually look like that bad dog's sister here. By the way, she is quite well behaved and would never embarrass me in front of you nice ladies. So this is the first part of making a felted dog. Tomorrow we'll start the details and work on house training here Amongst The Oaks.

Simple tips for framing felt art work professionally at home.
My story began 3 years ago when I, a mother of two, saw wonderful toys made from an unknown material, which, as I later found out, was wool. I got really interested in this technique and decided to try making a toy myself. My first toy wasn’t nearly as pretty, it was rather funny, but I enjoyed the process so much that I kept trying.
Vintage farmhouse animal printables you could use for crafts or just print out and frame (wouldn't these look cute in a baby's room?)

Needle Felted Chipmunk figurine. This realistic ground squirrel is made of various types of sheep wool around a wire frame. Needle felting animals is a time-consuming process, but I love studying all these lovely creatures, blending the wool, shaping the animals and applying all the details to give them a realistic appearance. The colours can be a slightly different from the images depending on screen settings. The height of this wildlife sculpture (including tail) is approx. 11 cm / 4.5 inches and the length 15 cm / 6 inches. DELIVERY This woolfelt ornament will be carefully wrapped and sent in a box to prevent any damage. My parcels are plastic free, using tissue paper, paper parcel tape and plant-based sellotape. UK parcels are sent by Royal Mail Signed For 2nd Class and rest of the world is sent by Royal Mail International Tracked. Due to the many different shapes and sizes of the animals I create, I am unfortunately unable to gift-wrap and mark the parcel as a ‘gift’, but I'd be happy to include a personalised message in the box. NOT A TOY! Please note that this soft sculpture has been created as an indoor ornament and it's not suitable as a toy. It's not super fragile, but bits of wool will come off if it is pulled and the wire frame within could pose a hazard for children. This is a perfect gift for someone who loves the outdoors and appreciates wildlife.

Needle felted Great Malaysian Hornbill. This needle felted bird sculpture is made from sheep wool around a wire frame. Needle felting animals takes a lot of time, but I really enjoy blending the wool, shaping the animals and adding details to make them look as realistic as possible. This beautiful Hornbill is about 11 inches (27.5 cm) high from head to tail. The photos show a examples of a Hornbill figurine that I have created. The bird you order will be very similar, but they are handmade and will all have their own unique character. The colours can be slightly different due to screen settings. The bird can stand on the edge of a table/cabinet or you can carefully bend the toes around a branch or other perch. The time it takes to create this Great Hornbill will depend on how busy it is, the processing time is an indication only. If you need the bird for a specific date, please send me a message before ordering and I will try my best to get it ready on time. DELIVERY This woolfelt ornament will be carefully wrapped and sent in a box to prevent any damage. My parcels are plastic free, using tissue paper, paper parcel tape and plant-based sellotape.
