After a week off to celebrate Thanksgiving with family and friends, we will be back to school on Monday for three weeks until our long awaited Winter Break. During those three weeks, our school is filled with engaging holiday activities, lessons and events. It is a time when our clubs and organizations also participate in charitable giving: Food Drives, Blanket Drives, and Caroling with Socks for the Elderly. These groups also raise money to donate to our local food bank and other charitable organizations. One way we raise money is to sell Candy Grams. Candy Grams, or Holiday Grams, are specially delivered messages with a treat that are sold around holidays or special events. The treat can be candy, a pencil, a bookmark or other trinket you attach to the gram. The Turkey Grams below were sold the week before Thanksgiving break and delivered on that Friday afternoon before dismissal. You can easily hold a Candy Gram sale at your school to raise money using the following steps: 1. Schedule the Candy Gram fund-raiser close to a major holiday or event. 2. Choose a simple, inexpensive candy or treat that you can purchase in bulk from Costco, Sam's, Dollar Tree or Oriental Trading: Blow Pops, Tootsie Pops, Candy Canes, Pencils, Bookmarks, Plush Toys, etc. We try to get a business or parent to donate these items so we don't have to take the cost out of our profit. 3. Print your grams on white card stock in color, or print in black and white on colored card stock. The card stock helps support the weight of the candy when you attach it. 4. Advertise by hanging flyers, announcing in the morning announcements, posting on the school website, and sending home information in parent newsletters. 5. Sell the grams before or after school the week of the sale. You can sell them for 50 cents or $1 each. Choose an amount you think would work well in your school community. You can even offer class sets for teachers to buy for their students at 50% off the regular price. 6. Sell them at a table that will get a lot of parent and student traffic in the morning and afternoon. Have several pens on hand for customers to fill out their own cards, or you can fill them out for kinder and 1st grade students. Also have a list of teachers with their room numbers in case you need to refer to it. 7. After selling the gram and attaching the candy, put it in a large gallon size zip lock, or big brown envelope labeled with the teacher's name or room number. 8. On the day of delivery, deliver the bag to the teacher's classroom at a convenient time so he/she can hand them out to the students. Hi everyone! I'm here today to tell you about easy fundraising for your school. When our school district upgraded our operating system we found ourselves with less than one computer per classroom. Our computers that had been handed down from a local high school were too old to work on the new system. This is a huge problem! A group of teachers met over the summer to brainstorm different ways to earn money for new computers. I suggested that we have a color run. My personal kids had been begging me to sign them up for one. After researching a dry color formula and a wet color formula on Pinterest, I submitted them to our PTA for the final decision. The PTA voted on the wet color formula because they thought the color could be controlled more and wouldn't get in the student's eyes. We chose to use our school colors for the run. The ingredients were simply: water, food color and vinegar. The color was completely washable. We had no complaints about skin irritants or such. For 900+ students we bought: 10 boxes of 1 oz food color 1 large jug of vinegar 10 spray bottles The cost was under $50. If you have parents donate the items, it could be free for you! We put 100 drops of food color in each bottle. This was approximately half of each food color bottle. We put a couple of ounces of vinegar in each bottle to bring the color out on the shirts. No need to measure. Then we filled the bottles with water. Permission slips were sent home to allow students to be sprayed. We tied a ribbon around each child's wrist who had permission. This way the sprayers knew exactly who was allowed to be sprayed. The volunteers who were spraying were stationed around the running area. We explained to the students that they wouldn't be sprayed by each person and they weren't to stop in front of the sprayers. We didn't want the kids soaking wet. We also wanted to preserve the spray so that we could keep our budget down. Each group was given 30 minutes of running time. We split the school into 3 groups. Each child was given the task of raising donations for the run. Most children brought in about $5 a piece. Of course we had our top fundraisers who brought in more. The grand total for fundraising was over $6,000. The best part was that it was easy to set up and when the run was over, we were done. There were no products to be organized and dispersed. The parents that spoke to me had a lot of positive feedback. They loved that they didn't have to buy anything. Let's get started! 1) Ziggedy This is my new favorite! Teachers register their classrooms, and supporters sign up and shop online. THAT'S IT! Downloading the Ziggedy app gives classrooms extra funds! 2) Shoparoo Our school just started using Shoparoo, and it's amazing how simple it is to use. Just download the app then take pictures of your receipts after shopping. That's it! Receipts earn cash donations or sweepstakes entries, and your school can have competitions between grades. 3) Adopt A Classroom.org Teachers register their classrooms, and donors find and fund classrooms with 100% tax deductible donations. I received funds from Adopt A Classroom last year and was able to order needed supplies from Office Depot. 4) Target Red Card Register your Target Red Card for your favorite school then 1% of your total purchase will go toward that school. 5) Kroger Community Rewards Works like the Target Red Card, just register your Kroger card for your favorite school. Your school earns 3-5% of your purchases depending on what you buy. 6) eScrip.com Another shop and earn program. Your school can earn up to 10% of purchases made through eScrip. I've never used this one but have heard great things! 7) Office Depot Make a purchase of qualifying school supplies, provide your school ID at checkout, and your designated school will receive 5% back in credits for FREE supplies! 8) Tyson Project A+ Purchase Tyson products with the A+ label, clip the labels, and send labels to school. Your school will earn 24¢ for each label. 9) Box Tops 4 Education Oh, the tried and true! BT4E is one of America's oldest and largest fundraising programs. Purchase products with Box Tops labels, clip the Box Tops and send them to school. Your school will receive 10¢ for each Box Top. BT4E loves to offer bonus products and coupons, so be sure to check for those! 10) Labels for Education- You know this one, too! It all started with Campbell's Soup labels!! Collect UPCs and beverage/sauce caps from participating products and send them to school. Your school will earn points to spend at the Labels' online store, which has everything from basketballs to iPads. 11) Flipgive.com Flipgive allows you to search for a fundraiser on their site, then shop online deals from merchants like Nike and Starbucks. Your school or other organization can earn up to 50%! 12) Donor’sChoose Teachers submit project proposals, and supporters make monetary donations to help fund the projects. I received 6 Kindle Fire HDXs through DC two years ago. Incredible organization! BONUS- Farmer's Insurance-Thank America's Teachers Teachers submit proposals for a $2500 Grant OR the $100,000 Dream Big contest. Online voting determines the winners! Hurry, though! This contest closes September 30. Other Ideas 1) 50/50 Raffle-Sell raffle tickets and give the winner half of all money raised. For instance, if you sell $500 in raffle tickets, the winner gets $250. 2) Redditt Gifts-Each fall, teachers can sign up for a gift exchange. Redditt matches teachers with donors who provide needed materials up to $20. Some donors give much more. 3) Right Road Kids.org-Such an inspirational place! Paula is so incredibly generous and has tons of giveaways and offers for teachers. But, even if you never win anything, Right Road Kids is a feel-good experience! 4) Recycling ink cartridges-Check online to find a recycling center in your area. 5) Silent Auction-Y'all, I love a silent auction. Ask faculty and parents to send items that still have tags or hit up local businesses for items. 6) Used Book Sale-Another easy clean-out-your-closet idea. Sell gently used books for 50¢ each. Most teachers love to read, and you could get books into the hands of children who may not have many at home. Libraries raise funds this way all the time. Okay, so I know there are probably some crazy good fundraisers I've missed, but, y'all I'm spent, and it's way past my bedtime. If you have any great ideas to add, please list them below.
