Meet the Architect Nick Tyson Architecture chatting residential, multi-residential and hospitality architecture projects from his base in Brisbane, Australia.
Aperture House was conceived as a studio space for a cinematographer. The namesake of the project is derived from a large living room window with an aspect ratio of 1:66:1, a ratio used by such infamous directors as Stanley Kubrick and Elia Kazan. The window is recessed and surrounded by a cut limestone frame that emulates the exterior structure of a camera lens while functioning as a shading device for the window in the summer months. The form of the structure was based on the owners existing house to the west, conceived as an extrusion of the simple gable form, with corner dormers that create vaulted interior space and controlled lighting and views into and out of their associated spaces.
