My name is Marta M. Soldevilla, I am a fashion designer from Barcelona. My work is always based on a strong aesthetic whom is pushed into boundaries, with a special attention to materials and craftmanship.
I try to make my brand be associated with lightness, which is why I use delicate materials in bright colors that sew in a subtle way. Additional details, embroidery and other decorations combine craftsmanship with gentle forms, adding more sensuality to projects.
THE IDEA BEHIND THIS PROJECT IS TO PUSH THE UPCYCLING TREND TO NOT ONLY USING GROWN UPS WEAR, BUT ALSO BABY WEAR. CHILDREN GROW FAST AND THERE ARE TONS OF OUTWORN CLOTHES LAYING AROUND. MANY OF THESE GARMENTS HAVE STAINS ON THEM AND IN MOST CASES A LOW SECOND HAND VALUE. TO CREATE A WARM AND FASHIONABLE PUFFER JACKET OUT OF THESE, THEY ARE A GIVEN A NEW PURPOSE.
Citing the modern art movement, Excessivism, as a major influence on her collection, Choi aims to highlight the social issues of excess and consumer waste. In preparing for her collection, she studied the closets of her friends and family: “I decided that we have so much clothing, but we only wear a portion of it. Each stripe represents a garment and it’s multiplied so that excessiveness comes to life to symbolize over consumption.” Choi made deliberate design choices to use colors and synthetic materials that were most represented in the closets she studied.
