“You can always tell Suffragists by the way they are dressed,” pontificated an anonymous gentleman in 1913. “There’s that Mrs Chew, for instance – her hat’s never on straight!” Stalwart suffrage ca…
Museum Ref: A48 Summary Dated 1900-1905 Button front children’s corset constructed in a single layer of dove grey sateen coutil. Double back lacing supported with flat steel bones on the outer edges of the eyelets. Seams are covered with single casings of coutil encasing the boning to the exterior of the garment. The top and lower edges are bound and the top edge features a lace trim. The button to the lower sides of the corset would have held up other lingerie items such as drawers, stockings or petticoats. Most children wore stay bands until around the age of 8 years, when girls would go to specifically designed corsets. The Double laced back panel and adjustable over the shoulder straps allows for some growth and development of the body. Almost all corsets for children would feature adjustable elements. Although the corset appeared heavily boned, there was no attempt to define or create a waist reduction for the wearer. The emphasis was on supporting the body. The characteristic tall blonde of the northern races is typified in this instance by a "Dalkullan," or native of Dalarne, a mountainous interior district of Sweden, where the old fashions and costumes are still preserved. The two great silver buttons fastening the flowing collar, the brooches at the throat and bow, the belt clasp and other jewelry are silver heirlooms; the apron is homespun, in brilliant colors, similar to a Roman scarf. Sweden has given to us Jenny Lind, Neilson and other sweet singers.
***𝐏𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐒𝐄 𝐑𝐄𝐀𝐃 𝐁𝐄𝐅𝐎𝐑𝐄 𝐘𝐎𝐔 𝐎𝐑𝐃𝐄𝐑*** This illustration is printed at 330dpi - it's a high-quality print with crisp lines. The "pixelation" that some are referring to is the original look of the actual poster from the 1900s. The listing includes closeup photos of my own poster in 11x14 which shows you what it looks like in EVERY size. The illustration itself was made in colored pencil, so that's the vintage look it has to it. Zoom in on the hand and rose - that is the original poster and it's not a result of pixelation; I never use any files under 330dpi. If you're not a fan of some vintage quality to a poster/illustration, then please don't order. Look at the photos and see & decide for yourself.
