The historic Royal Hotel in Excelsior Springs is slated for renovation; right now the back of the old place is quite picturesque, and I couldn't resist sketching it. This print is from an original plein air ink and watercolor, done on the spot one beautiful fall day. The print is 5 x 7" which works well in an 8" x 10" frame; I make every effort to match the color as closely as possible and use archival materials, but there is often some variation due to differences in computer monitors. This will come to you securely wrapped and backed, ready to mat and frame.

Click here to check them out & refer to Color Me Courtney from now on! How to Plan a Murder Mystery Party A night full of Mayhem, Mystery and of course Murder! You're Invited: Here is a copy of the invitation sent out to all the guests. I create my own e-vites and send them via the free site: www.punchbowl.com The Details: I have always wanted to host a Murder Mystery Party, and last week I finally got the chance! In the future, I hope I will be able to create my own murder, characters and plot, but for my first attempt I wanted to use a preset story. So I utilized this site: http://host-party.com/Home/Default where you can "purchase" a murder, tailor it to your guests and party and finally print out all the clues and information. I choose The Railburn Murder, a classic 1930's Who Done It! Overall the site and the game was really helpful and I highly recommend it! The Decor: For decor ideas I turned to my loyal friend: Goodwill. There I purchased an original classic Clue board game as well as the more recent version. I used the board games and pieces as table settings and food identification cards. Also I taped off the front with "Crime Scene Do Not Cross" tape and made a body outline using blue painters tape. The Dinning&Drinks: I tried to tailor the food choices to Clue board game components. I served Professor Plum's Killer Hot Rolls, Mr. Green's Guilty Garden Salad, Colonel Mustards Assailant Appetizers (Bruscheta and Crunchy Bread Tarts with ham and mustard or turkey and cranberry sauce) and Mrs. Peacocks Mystery Meet Lasagna. Miss Scarlets's Blood Red Punch for drinks and Mrs. Whites To Die For Desserts: White Chocolate Swirl Brownies, Oreao Bars and Lemon Bars. The Dress: The Murder was set in the 1930's so everyone came true to their character and true to the era. Meet the Victim: Lawrence Railburn Sr. The aggressive owner and operator of the Western Pacific Railroad. His overbearing, authoritarian style tends to alienate or attract all whom he encounters. With Lawrence, you either love him or hate him, or more often than not, love to hate him. Meet the Accused: Alaina as Maria LaWenta the Chambermiad and Ashley as Ivanna Bucks the Railsburn Accountant Sheree as Lolita the Lady of the Night and Alex as Phillip Duright the Hotel Manager. Kevin as Jake Daniels the Bartender, and Kenny as Johnny Fabulous the Hotel Musician The Railburns: kristin as Slyvia Railburn the Barons Wife and My Brother Trent as Josh Railburn: the son of the deceased who ended up being both homosexual and the killer Karlee: Amber Rose the Secretary with a Secret and Me: Chastity Reynolds the Slutty Socialite The Games: We played 3 rounds were clues were read (some confidential, some not) and we each tried to solve the murder, in the end, Trent (Josh) was the killer! Lets Party: More Pictures from the Murder!

Wreath tutorial 12 comments decor, fabric, fall, flowers, ruffles, tutorial, wreath Share It: Hi all! Thank you for the comments on this wreath! It is so nice to hear from people out in blogland and to see what you all are doing too! And thank you to those who are now followers! : ) And a special shout out to Twinkle Star... I can't seem to comment on your blog and I can't seem to email you back but I wanted to say thank you for your comment!! I'm your newest follower. Ok, so I promised this tutorial yesterday but it just didn't happen. Jim works from home 3 days a week and we only have one computer hooked up in the apartment which means from sun up to sun down I can't get on. And then my sister and I spent a ridiculous amount of time in Joanne's looking at fabric so I couldn't post in the evening. She is a knitter and she is working on a knitting exchange with some friends from Ravelry so she's always fun to hang out in Joanne's with. Plus she's the kind of friend that, instead of saying "No, you don't need that. Save your money. I know it's beautiful but you just don't need it," she says "Do it. I'll do it. If you do it I'll do it. You know you want to." Love that about her! LOL Anyway, I'm still learning how to put together a really good tutorial but I did my best and I hope it helps! Step 1: Gather your materials. You will need a wreath form (mine was 16 inches), 2 yards of fabric (I'm guessing because I had remnant fabric), glue gun, basic sewing tools, ribbons/fabric to make flowers. I made my flowers first. Here is a mini-tutorial on the twisted fabric roses. Heat up your glue gun. Pre-cut a cut felt circles the size you want your flower to be (approximately). Cut strips of the fabric. I like my strips to be about an inch wide. Fold in half long ways and fold down one corner and hold it with your thumb like this. (This picture is from a different project that, um, didn't work out. That's why it's black.) Twist the strip and and wrap around the starting "knot." Continue twisting and wrapping, holding it all along with your thumb to keep the shape. Play with the tightness of the twist to achieve the look you want. I like to use a loose twist. Continue wrapping, twisting until you get to the end. Use a dot of hot glue to secure the end to the bottom of the flower. Stick finger you got hot glue all over into a glass of ice water. I have found that thicker, stiffer fabrics work the best. I tried organza and it was a glue gun catastrophe. I'm still reeling from it. Ok back to the wreath. Step 2: Pre-make 22 ruffles. I used two different types of fabric: cotton and corduroy in the same color so 11 of each . I have a tutorial on making the ruffles here. I used lengths of fabric that were 18 inches to make my ruffles which was 2 1/2 times the width of my wreath form. You will have to measure your wreath form. Also I prefer looser ruffles. If you like tighter you will need to use longer lengths of fabric. Step 3: Cut strips of fabric to wind around wreath as a base. Cover the enter wreath. I cut this step out because I had remnant fabric and didn't have enough to do that. DON'T SKIP IT! It isn't the same. sniff. Step 4: Begin gluing your ruffles. Lay the first ruffle face down on the table. Run a bead of hot glue on the ruffle. Lay your wreath form on top. Bring two sides of ruffle up and glue in place. Step 5: Keep gluing in the same way, alternating fabrics, all the way around the wreath. This is clearly a one sided wreath, lol. It is not essential that you do your gluing on a Sesame Street place mat, by the way. Step 6: When you have completely covered the wreath, lay your flowers in the arrangement you want. Then glue your flowers to the ruffles. All finished. I used the teal color but I think it would be lovely with two shades of brown too. In other news, we here in Joisey haven't started school yet but it's getting closer. Molly goes into a new preschool and I think she's a bit nervous. But she knows some of her classmates from vacation bible school so I have a feeling that once she sees them she'll be just fine. I'm trying to do some substitute teaching in the fall too. I feel a tad melancholy about not teaching. I love being home with my kids and I'm so grateful I get to do that for now. But teaching is such a part of me that I miss it. So subbing would be a wonderful way to have it and then not have it too. How are your kids doing back at school? Do you work part-time/full-time? How do you keep the balance? Is Blogger working wonky for anyone else? I had the hardest time getting this formatted correctly for some reason. huh. And my font is all wonky. Sorry! This is why Jim is the web developer and I'm the kindergarten teacher. sigh. Cheers! Jenny
