Let's be women of grace. The world most definitely needs us. Find out what a biblical friendship looks like and how to be women of grace.
We are working on a "big picture" of the Sacraments in Religion at school right now. I created these notes for the kids with the four main ideas we keep coming back to: Jesus' mission, the Church, the Sacraments, and Grace...and how they are all related. Here is my version with a little color added to make it pretty. You can print out my copy of the notes by clicking here: Or you can print the blank notes to have the kids fill in by clicking here: You might also like our Sacrament Symbols notes or some of the other activities under the Sacraments tab above.
What is grace for kids? We'll cover what is grace of God with youth games on grace, children’s activities on grace, and object lesson on grace—all that are perfect for teaching grace to kids in youth group, preschool Sunday school lesson, or homeschool.
I have always been addicted to making lists, jotting down quotes, and sketching doodles. I collect little notebooks and journals and fill them up with my goals and things I must do…..all handwritten with something like colorful gel pens, of course. Beyond the grocery and bucket lists however, came a unique way for me to become closer to God. One day I bought the prettiest notebook, hundreds of stickers, and a set of fine tipped Sharpie markers. I began to write in this notebook……favorite bible verses, thoughts on God, prayers, and simply what was on my heart……and then I began to decorate it with colorful stickers and Sharpie doodles. I call it my Faith Notebook. I love it. As I thumb through the pages I realize it has changed my life. It makes me laugh and uplifts my spirit. I can vividly see prayers that have been answered and how my faith has grown. Best of all, my girlies look through it and want to make one of their own. I am hoping if I show you how, you will want to make one too. What you need: · A notebook or journal · Colorful things to write with · Stickers Okay, really all you need is a notebook. But gel pens and stickers will make you happy! I bought a fancy spiral hardback notebook, splurged on the package of 80 fine tipped markers, and loaded up on hundreds of stickers. Shhhhh. Don’t tell my husband. Getting Started: You can write about anything you want in your Faith Notebook, but mine mainly consists of my favorite Bible verses. Often times, I would write notes to myself about the verses or write down why they meant something to me, during a bible study. The point is, to collect your thoughts so you can go back and remember what you have learned. Making It Personal: It would take eons to fill in a large notebook with just bible verses and although they are the main portion of a Faith Notebook, I just love how I made my notebook mine. Here are some ideas that I used that will make your notebook uniquely yours. *Be Creative* Draw something. Color it. Use these illustrations to draw analogies about the Bible verses you have written down, or to explain what you are studying. *Ask Yourself Questions* As you look back on your notebook you will be able to re-ask yourself the questions that you wrote down, and if you are anything like me, they will be questions that you need to ask yourself over and over. *Give Thanks* Thank you Oprah, this is just like a gratitude journal. Your journal can be a great reminder of what you have to be thankful for, no matter what situation you are facing. *Pray* 1 Thessalonians 5:17 reminds us to “Pray without ceasing.” Praying is an open line of communication between you and God. When you write your prayers down, you will actually be able to see that they have been answered when you look back on them. It is AMAZING! *Talk To Yourself* In my notebook I am always bossing myself around. I use my name. Like, “Hey Lynnie! Listen to this!” or “Lynn, you gotta remember that….”. It’s like giving yourself a little pep talk during the messy game of life. *Use Song Lyrics* The words from a favorite praise song or hymn are a great way to add to your journal. I sometimes get a little crazy and take lyrics from any old love song and give those words a “God” theme. I think any song will work as long as you focus on Him. *Repeat Yourself* Many times I have written a Bible verse or special quote more than once in my journal. Sometimes what I have written is applied differently to whatever situation I am struggling with at the time, compared to when I wrote it down the first time. Sometimes it is simply a part of God’s word that I hold fast to over and over. Either way, don’t God’s words and promises bear repeating again and again? *Be Funny* When I watch my girls reading through my journal I love to see them laughing about my silly drawings and analogies. Being happy in your faith is a life altering experience. Nothing will make you happier in life than an ongoing relationship with God. Write about it and laugh! So there it is, my Faith Notebook. I have been working on it for over two years! I am about half way through it now and it is one of my goals to finish this year. (Goal #65 of 101 Goals in 2012) It is something I plan on continuing for the rest of my life and hopefully it will inspire someone to start one too. Get ready…..your faith is about to grow! Why is it that we humans have such a hard time accepting God’s salvation as a free gift? Even after many of us come to the Lord as our Savior, we still try to earn it by our works. Ephesians 2:8-9 says this: “For it […]

9 Bible Verses on Grace
(This lesson is in accordance with the new Roman Missal that is to be implemented on November 27, 2011.) *Be sure to adjust this lesson to fit the needs of your students. (Please take in consideration that I am just a Mom and I'm providing these lessons and activities to the best of my abilities. I will try to make them as accurate as possible, but I know I will make a few mistakes and it was not intentional.) Gospel means “good news” and the reading is taken from the New Testament. During the Gospel we stand and listen to the priest read from the Book of the Gospels. If incense is used, the priest puts some into the thurible. After this, the deacon who is to proclaim the Gospel, bowing profoundly before the priest, asks for a blessing, saying in a low voice: Your blessing, Father. The priest says in a low voice: May the Lord be in your heart and on your lips that you may proclaim his Gospel worthily and well, in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. The deacon signs himself with the Sign of the Cross and replies: Amen. If, however, a deacon is not present, the priest, bowing before the altar, says quietly: Cleanse my heart and my lips, almighty God, that I may worthily proclaim your holy Gospel. The Deacon, or the Priest, then proceeds to the ambo, accompanied, if appropriate, by ministers with incense and candles. There he says: The Lord be with you. People: And with your spirit. Priest: A reading from the holy Gospel according to N. *At the same time, he makes the Sign of the Cross on the book and on his forehead, lips, and breast. The people make a fist with their right hand and with our thumb we make a small Sign of the Cross on our forehead, on our lips and over our heart and silently pray, “God be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart.”) People: Glory to you, O Lord. Then the deacon, or the priest, incenses the book, if incense is used, and proclaims the Gospel. At the end of the Gospel, the Deacon, or the Priest, acclaims: The Gospel of the Lord. All reply: Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ. Then he kisses the book, saying quietly: Through the words of the Gospel may our sins be wiped away. Then follows the homily, which is to be preached by a priest or deacon. The homily may even be given by a Bishop or a priest who is present at the celebration but cannot concelebrate. During the homily the people sit. This is when the priest shares special thoughts and ideas with us to help us connect the gospel to our own life experiences. After the homily a brief period of silence is appropriately observed. Questions: What does Gospel mean? (Good News) Do we stand or sit during the Gospel? (Stand) What book is the Gospel read from? (The Book of the Gospels) Is the Gospel from the Old or New Testament? (New) Who reads the Gospel? (A deacon or a priest.) Where do we cross ourselves three times? (Once on the forehead, once on our lips, and once over our heart.) When we cross ourselves three times, what do we say? (“God be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart.”) Who does the homily? (A deacon or a priest.) Do we stand or sit during the homily? (Sit) What is a homily? (This is when the priest shares special thoughts and ideas with us to help us connect the gospel to our own life experiences.) Craft/Activity: Lesson 11: Preparing for the Gospel- Children Discover the Mass by Mary Doefler Dall An inventive way to help children learn to make the Sign of the Cross on our forehead, on our lips and over our heart and silently pray, “God be in my mind, on my lips, and in my heart.” (Craft/Activity directions pages 59 – 60). During the First Reading, what are you supposed to do? (Sit) During the Responsorial Psalm (we join in a prayer that is read or sung) what do we do? (Sit) During the Second Reading, what are you supposed to do? (Sit) When we sing the Gospel Acclamation (“Alleluia”), what are you supposed to do? (Stand) During the Gospel what do you do? Lesson: Jesus Victorious in Temptation 1. Story: Tell the story of Jesus' temptation based on Luke 4:1-13. Last week, what did we learn about Jesus? (He was baptised by John) After being baptised, Jesus was filled with Holy Spirit and was led to the desert. He prayed in the desert and didn’t eat anything for 40 days. There, the devil decided to tempt Him. The devil wanted Jesus to trust His own strength and abilities rather than trust God. First: the devil told Jesus: “If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread.” How many of you have not eaten for 1 day? How did you feel? Yes, Jesus was very hungry too. But Jesus didn’t want to depend on His own strength and power to satisfy His hunger. He knew God would take care of Him and provide for Him. Jesus replied: “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’ Second: the devil took Jesus to a high place and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world. The devil said that he would give Jesus all the authority and splendour if Jesus would worship him. Jesus knew that God was the source of everything and He was the only one worthy to be worshipped. He said, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.” Third: The devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, to the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here.” After all, the devil said, God had promised that His angels will protect Jesus. Jesus knew He didn’t have to do anything to prove that He was God’s son. God already told Him that He is God’s beloved son when He was baptised, remember? So Jesus said, “It is said, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” The devil realised that Jesus did not fall into temptation. Jesus had won! So the devil left Jesus, and God sent angels to minister to Jesus. 2. Lesson: Good News for today! Jesus was tempted by Satan, and He was victorious. A long time ago, the first man, Adam, was tempted by Satan in the Garden of Eden. Does anyone know how the devil tempted Adam? (to eat of the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil) Adam wanted to be like God, to be able to know good and evil. He didn’t want to depend on God; he wanted to use his own wisdom. He was tempted, and he failed. Because of Adam’s failure, all of us became sinners and are separate from God. Because of Jesus’ victory, all of us are righteous before God and can have a relationship with Him. Because of Jesus, we have victory over temptation too! We can stand firm on God’s truths and promises whenever the devil tries to tricks us into believing his lies. Memory verse: “Jesus was tempted in every way, like us, yet was without sin.” (Hebrews 4:15b) Let’s thank Jesus for what He has done for us! 3. Activity ideas: a. Craft: Victory Medal Prepare some yellow card paper and ribbon. Cut yellow card into circles. Write "name of child is victorious in Jesus!" on it. Staple ribbon onto circle so that child can loop it over their neck like a gold medal. b. Activity Sheet: Match & Colour c. Activity Sheet: Fill in the blanks ***** Youth Bible Study Leader's Guide Jesus Tempted in the Wilderness 1. Read Luke 4:1-13. 2. After Jesus was baptised, he was led by the Spirit into the wilderness for 40 days. He ate nothing during those days and was hungry. 3. The devil wants to tempt Jesus to trust in His own strength and abilities than to trust in God. Temptation #1: Turn stones into bread The devil wanted Jesus to use His own power to satisfy His hunger. But Jesus knew God would take care of Him and provide for Him. He said, “It is written: ‘Man shall not live on bread alone.’” Temptation #2: Worship me and I’ll give you all the kingdoms of the world. The devil lied that he had authority of the world. But Jesus to knew that God was the source of everything and He was the only one worthy to be worshipped. He said, “It is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve Him only.” Temptation #3: If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from the temple, and God’s angels will protect you. Jesus knew He didn’t have to do anything to prove that He was God’s son. God already told Him that He is God’s beloved son when He was baptised, remember? So Jesus said, “It is said, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’” 4. Write down your memory verse: Heb 4:15 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are — yet he did not sin” 5. Who was the first man God created, and how was he tempted by the devil? Adam was tempted by the devil in the Garden of Eden to eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil — the only tree God said he could not eat from. Adam wanted to be like God, to be able to know good and evil. He didn’t want to depend on God; he wanted to use his own wisdom. He was tempted, and he failed. 6. What were the consequences of this man’s actions? (cref Rom 5:17) Because of Adam’s failure, all of us became sinners and are separate from God. “For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many.” 7. What were the consequences of Jesus’ victory over Satan? Heb 5:18-19: Jesus was victorious over Satan’s temptation, and through His death for us, we are all righteous and justified before God. 1 Cor 10:13: Because Jesus was victorious in temptation, I can also be victorious in temptation. Let’s thank Jesus for what He has done for us!
Lesson idea from Art. Paper. Scissors. Glue! 3rd graders started a conversation about what textile arts are by reading the book "Tar Beach" by author and artist Faith Ringgold. We talked about how the book and its illustrations were actually inspired by a story quilt that Ringgold created (the original work is pictured in the back of the book I had). The story in the book brought up the themes of both inequality (which works well since February is Black History Month) and imagination. The book's main character 3rd grader Cassie Louise Lightfoot discovers she has the ability to fly and in doing so, finds a sense of power and ownership over whatever she flies. She flies over the George Washington Bridge (a structure her father helped to build), an ice cream factory, and the Union Building (a building which housed an organization her father was not allowed to join because of his skin color). After reading and discussing the themes in the book, I asked my 3rd graders "Where would you go if you could fly (real or imaginary) and why?" This question was the inspiration for our very own patches on our 3rd grade story quilt. Students created their own "story patches" by creating a border using squares of 1.5"x1.5" decorative paper along the edge of a 12" x 12" piece of white drawing paper. Students then attached a strip of grey paper to the bottom of their picture squares and wrote about where they would go and why. Then in the remaining space, they used colored pencils to illustrate their ideas. I got a huge range of responses from Candyland (naturally to eat a ton of candy), to Columbia (to visit friends and family), to the Twin Towers in New York City (which prompted an entirely difference conversation). Students really enjoyed working on this project (which took between 4-5 class periods -- including one day for sketching ideas). I really love the finished product - and even more so when they are all hung together to make a giant story quilt! :)

"Healing Grace" is a digital wall art masterpiece, a delicate portrayal of a transformative miracle from Luke 8:43-48, where faith and hope culminate in a moment of divine intervention. This artwork brings to life the touching narrative of a woman healed by her unwavering belief, as she reaches out to touch the fringe of Jesus' garment. The scene unfolds in a tableau of soft pastels and warm, inviting tones that give a sense of the Mediterranean climate where the story is set. The central figures of Jesus and the woman are depicted in an intimate exchange, surrounded by a crowd yet isolated in their moment of connection. A dove, symbol of the Holy Spirit, soars above, adding a layer of spiritual significance and peace to the composition. Set against a backdrop that suggests a gathering of faithful witnesses, the art is marked by a soft glow, emphasizing the sanctity of the moment. The scripture reference "Luke 8:43-48" is thoughtfully included, grounding the piece in its biblical roots and inviting contemplation of the passage's deeper meaning. Designed for a 3:4 aspect ratio, "Healing Grace" fits seamlessly into a variety of spaces, serving as a beacon of faith for all who view it. It's a piece that speaks to the soul, making it a compelling choice for those browsing Etsy for art that enriches their spiritual journey. For the collector, the faithful, or those drawn to the storied past of biblical wonders, "Healing Grace" is not just a decorative element. It is a testament to the power of faith, a daily inspiration, and a striking work of art that will evoke emotion and reflection in every onlooker, promising to be a cherished addition to any home.
