Welcome to DodOddity! Everything in my shop comes from estates of crafters and quilters just like you and me! I have a strong desire to pass along these stashes and reuse what is already out there! Orders of 4 or more of anything earns a 15% discount. Orders of $50 earn 20%, $100 earns 25% and $200 earns 30%! AND, all orders of $35+ earn FREE shipping! Did I mention that I also share stories behind these stashes? It is always an adventure! After much prompting from my Etsy family, I pulled together 33 of my best stales into a book, Fabric Wars. (Also available right here in my shop) The book caught the attention of Janet Szabo who runs a podcast called The Straight Stitch. She interviewed me on Feb 20, 2024, if you enjoy podcasts! It gets crazier... the book also caught the attention of TV producer Yvonne Bernard with Lookout Entertainment in California!! Who knows what could be next.. in the meantime, I'll keep hunting down these forgotten stashes and doing my thing! Now, for CP Wannabe.. First of all, if you are new, you need to go into the Crabby Patty collection in my shop and then Honest Abe and get caught up! Because while I have not seen Crabby Patty since those auctions, she still haunts me and there are still others I have to beat down or GET beat down sometimes. CP Wannabe is not the same caliber; however, she keeps popping up and is definitely interested in what interests me! Once upon a time, CP Wannabe wanted to tempt me to shop her fabric on Facebook Marketplace. She had witnessed the brutal teardown at the Crabby Patty auction and in her mind, I had money to spend. Initially I thought it was fabric that she had just come into, from a family member or something. It feels like a story she told me. I couldn't pay her prices. So, when I ran into her at Yard Cop, she told me she was going to unload a bunch at an online auction. So many reasons why I still wasn't interested. (Read Fabric Wars to hear my grievances towards online auctions.) Now she turns up again at THIS auction. She's a slight woman, easily in her late 60's maybe 70's. She allows herself to "dress her age" in casual slacks and a button-down blouse, her graying haior short and loosely curled, while in my 50's I'm wearing cutoffs and a tank top and Converse, a ponytail down my back, and will until the day I die. We greeted each other, small talk, etc. And, moved on. This house was a large brick home, nicely decorated and full of furniture made by the husband who had a fabulous wood shop in the backyard. Someone in the house also had expensive taste in collecting and those treasures were in the house garage where the Big Bucks set up their chairs. I perused but then took my place at the back garage, I don't usually play with the big boys. The back garage had wood, yes, and machinery and such. It also had tools and lots of boxes of miscellaneous. This garage had a second floor with a wooden ladder-type staircase and apparently it had been full. One thing that I started to find as I dug, was fabric, both outside in boxes on the lawn and tucked in the eaves of that second floor. CP Wannabe was looking, too, digging through the same boxes in the yard. This confused me because I thought she was trying to get rid of fabric, not acquire more. I started to do something that normally annoys me when others do it; I started to sort the fabric in the upstairs into boxes of pieces I wanted and pieces I didn't want. Then I did something I don't normally do; I brought the boxes down into the yard. And CP started to dig some more. The collection that I had pulled together was majority 1980's. It was mostly cotton and blends that were used for clothing, not quilts although there are some pieces that can be used for either. Yes, I bought it all, enough to fill two very large totes and another tote full of tropical and Hawaiian prints, and yes CP bid against me! And not just casually, she was focused and respectable competition. She also has a quiet demeanor, a nonchalance about wins or defeats. She is no fun to beat at all. Spoiler alert... CP Wannabe would continue to show up at my auctions and continue to be competition in all sorts of things that interests us both. What I haven't figured out yet is where, exactly, she is selling her wares. I have this star fabric in red and blue and these two listings are random because of a special request that had me digging through that estate. But it is motivating me to get started on it, so there will be more listings to come!

If you know how to find the grain of fabric and how to square up fabric that’s problematic, your sewing projects will improve tenfold.
