Our girls, Izzie and Lucy are almost exactly 2 years apart in age - Izzie was born on February 11th and Lucy on January 24th. We just threw Lucy's Bug party two weeks ago and then threw Izzie's Brave party on Tuesday. So much fun but super intense. One day maybe we will have combined birthday parties...of maybe I will just need to tone down the parties! lol. The Decorations Izzie was insistent she wanted a 'Merida' party ever since we bought the movie in November. After all, she does look just like Merida. We kept the guest list to

Because a simple gin and tonic doesn't always cut it.
My daughter, Ariella, LOVED the color orange. When we were deciding upon the theme for her 5th birthday party, she randomly said "Oranges!" Which led us down the road of fruit, and which eventually led us to a Tutti Frutti theme for her latest birthday party. I loved this theme, the only problem is that her birthday is in January, a time of year here in which lots of fruity decorations are hard to find!! Luckily, we decided on her theme about 6 months in advance, which completely saved me! I shopped all summer long for fruit decorations, plates, pitchers, tablecloths, plates, etc. Hooray for Summer! I designed the Kawaii fruit print and confetti invitations and other graphic items which are for sale in my Etsy shop, Emily Entertains. I just adore the cute little smiling Kawaii faces on these fruits. I looked high and low for vinyl wall decals of these Kawaii fruits, but I really wasn't able to find any, so I ended up using my Silhouette cutting machine and cut out a TON of fruity walls decals. This was a painstakingly slow process, as I had to layer on the leaves, stems, and faces, but I loved the look it added to the walls for the party. One of my most favorite items was the cake. Liz from Les Pop Sweets nailed the cake toppers to a "T", so to speak! I sent her a rendering I did, and she recreated it in the most amazing way!!! Another amazing element to the party decor were the glittery fruit slices that I purchased from Lula Flora. Christine made me extra ones that I put on all the chair backs of the dining chairs which added even more sparkly color to the party! I added to the fruity theme with lots of healthy and fresh fruit for the kids to munch on - pineapple fruit cups, fruit and yogurt, etc. For party favors, I did manage to find some adorable Kawaii-looking plush pineapples to give away as party favors. I put them into cardboard berry baskets with a few other items, and the kids loved them. I hope you find some inspiration for your little one with this cute and colorful tutti frutti party! It's a great theme for kids of all ages, and makes the most colorful and bright party that the kids will love!! xx, Emily www.entertainingwithemily.com Etsy shop: Emily Entertains
Before I ever had the opportunity to design an interior space, I was designing parties. I helped design parties in high school, for my sorority in college, and I look forward to designing my daughters' birthday parties each year. Though it isn't exactly interior design, party design can be really great practice for designing a more permanent, interior space. You get to experiment with color, themes, and materials. Designing a party requires all the planning, coordinating and visualizing it takes to design a room. Plus, you get to go a little nuts! I am quite certain I will never find a client who will let me design a room in a cartoon-pig motif (but if you are out there, give me a call!) My oldest, Mary Jennings, is obsessed with the british cartoon Peppa Pig. When it was time to plan her 3rd birthday there were no questions as to what the them would be. We watch Peppa everyday-and I actually enjoy it too. The characters make me so happy. Fortunately for me, Peppa party supplies are hard to come by in the states, so I got to really put my own spin on this party for MJ, and create a totally unique experience for her and our guests. Please enjoy! It all started with our Peppa invite from Grammarcy. Lindsey is the best -shes super talented and can do anything and everything! I bought two large pieces of foam core board and started painting away for the backdrop. All of the popcorn boxes, tags etc I bought off Etsy from Sugar Tree Press. They were so easy to work everything turned out super cute! The Ferris Wheel and a few other decorations were from Meri Meri. My husband and I were really impressed with the quality and pricing. The little doll house is from Target I bought red lanterns from Party City and just hot glued stems and leaves to make them apples. If you watch Peppa-she lives near apple orchards. I made the banner myself out of card stock- I used to do a lot of children's paintings before I started interior design-which I still love to do-So if you are interested please email me! I worked with Jill McMullen from Dreams and Buttercream to create the Peppa Cake. Isn't her work incredible?! Jill made the cupcakes and the toppers are from Sugar Tree Press. Cookies (also made by Jill) The colorful baskets are from Target and so are the "raindrops". Peppas favorite activity is jumping in muddy puddles and looking for wiggly worms. I made brownies and kind of squished them in jars with sprinkles and candy worms and ordered mini umbrellas off of Amazon. The cute pink umbrellas also came from Amazon. Peppas friends- Suzy Sheep, Zoey Zebra, Pedro Pony, Emily Elephant, Richard Rabbit and Danny Dog were drawn and painted by me. My wonderful husband spent long hours cutting them out with an X-Acto knife and attaching stakes to them so they would stand up. We bought this Polaroid-like camera from Urban Outfitters and also the fun film with colors that matched the party decor. I spent a lot of time on this photo booth. My original plan was to paint the entire thing-but with a 1 and 3 year old who were so eager to help (mess it up) I just didn't have time. So I ended up finishing it off with card stock. Tablecloths, glitter boxes and party hats all from Target-I just ordered stickers from Sugar Tree Press to attach. Save a lot of $$. I think she was a happy little girl! Until the "real" Peppa Pig showed up. Turns out you shouldn't have a mascot at a three year old birthday party-They all screamed and ran! Also-let me know if you are interested in buying this Peppa costume! :)
Just like every other little girl in the world, this year my Ada just HAD to have a Frozen birthday party. What kind of mother would I be if I didn't comply? So here is my girl's Frozen Party… Complete with FREE PRINTABLES!! Frozen Invitations: Template Download HERE What you get: You can use a photo editing program to add your text like Photoshop or Picasa (free Picasa download HERE) And THANK YOU to my amazing bestie Candace for your help on those. You're my HERO!!! For decorations I used those cheap plastic party tablecloths to make the kitchen more "wintry white" and cover up my dark wood cabinets and not to mention for super easy cleanup with our pint size party goers. I hung plastic icicles from the bottom of the cabinets underneath (found at Hobby Lobby… thank heavens they put their Christmas things out in August! And it was all 50% off too! WhaaHooo!). And used big puffy snowflake stickers to hold it all together (also found at Hobby Lobby, I'm pretty sure they were actually window decals but whatever.) And I had snowflake cupcake wrappers, but they were too big and my cupcakes just fell straight through them. Mental note to check that before the party next time. Striped paper straws found at Hobby Lobby Blue Rock Candy found at Oriental Trading HERE For beverages we had "Glacier Juice" (aka: Koolaid Blasts in Berry Blue) Free Frozen Glacier Juice Label download HERE (just cut and attach with scotch tape) What you get: And we also had "Melted Snow" (aka: bottled water) Free Frozen water bottle label download HERE (just cut and attach with scotch tape) What you get: My Sister-in-law brought these awesome Frozen figurines and snow globe. Similar Figurines found on Amazon HERE Do You Wanna Build A Snowman Favors- with one extra large. one large and two small marshmallows, Pretzel sticks, m&m's (brown, regular size), chocolate chips (mini), and orange Mike&Ike's for the nose so our little party goers could build their very own delicious snowman at home. I bought one box (movie theatre size, found in candy section of grocery store) of Mike&Ikes and made 20 favor bags and still had plenty orange ones left in the box for more. Of course I made the favor tag; Free Frozen Favor Tag Download HERE What you get: We told everyone they could dress up for the party I worked for a week straight sewing Ada a one of a kind Elsa costume. We're going to Disney this year and I want the girl's to be able to dress up like princesses without wearing the expensive, yet cheaply made polyester princess costumes. So I had the genius idea to make Ada's Elsa costume with a separate shirt and skirt. The shirt is comfy cotton, short sleeved so she won't be hot outside in Florida, and the cape is detachable (with velcro). She can wear the long fancy skirt to her party and Halloween, but a short tutu and comfy leggings to Disney. This is her and her cousin both as Elsa My E came as Anna My Mr. was Oaken "Hoo Hoo! Big summer blowout!" And Uncle Kevan and Aunt Brooke were the King and Queen. Seriously nailed it! Baby Kenzie was a troll We had little Elsa and Anna crowns for all of our little girl party goers, and Sven antlers for the boys. Sorry, can't share the crowns with you because the owner requested me not too. BUT… Never fear my dears, there are LOTS of other places to find free crown downloads! There is a pretty Elsa crown download HERE Theres a super fancy glitter Elsa and Anna crown HERE You can create your own using this free clipart download HERE There is a cute download and fun tutorial of an Elsa crown HERE And this site has 2 pretty and free downloads for an Elsa and an Anna crown on her Frozen Party post found HERE And also HERE is an easy Elsa crown and Sven antler template that they traced onto craft foam and cut out. EASY PEASY! For the ones I used, I took "blue" and "opal" glitter glue and traced the edges of Ada's crown to make it shimmer and fancy it up so it didn't look so flat. It was easier to tie the crowns and antlers on instead of cutting out and taping strips of paper together like you see in some places. I just punched a hole in both edges of the crown and pulled a length of tulle through them like so: Worked great! I get the small rolls of tulle that you can get at any craft store and in the craft section at Walmart. Just FYI, the glittery tulle leaves glitter "fairy" dust EVERYWHERE! Lets just say your whole house will SPARKLE if you choose to use it! We played with Snow Dough. Made with lotion, baking soda and lots and lots of glitter that my sweet Miss May helped me make. Recipe found HERE on http://www.growingajeweledrose.com I used "disco" glitter found at Hobby Lobby I also sprinkled in bit of extra fine glitter in "blue". It gave the "snow" a blue tint like the glaciers in Alaska. The "snow" was extra awesome because it's kind of cold when you touch it, moldable, and completely fun! When they were done, I stuck the Snow Dough straight into clear treat bags (favor bags) tied with a piece of tulle so they could take it home with them. I even printed a little tag and stuck it to the outside of the bag so parents knew what the "goop" inside was. So sorry, no picture, this part of the party was kind of crazy! BUT… Free Frozen "Snow Dough" label Printable HERE (I used these Avery clear address labels). It really looked like I had the bags specially printed, but nope, just clear labels! What you get: Then we played "Pin the Nose on Olaf" I found a picture of Olaf and used it to draw a bigger version on a length of painting paper (easel and paper roll from Ikea) Free Frozen Olaf Printable HERE (I used as a guide to draw my big Olaf, but also great for printing and just displaying character pictures around your party) What you get: Free Frozen Olaf nose Template HERE; (I printed on orange cardstock and cut out) What you get: I also posted pictures of the cast characters around the room for the kiddos that I found doing free Google image searches. Free Frozen Cast Printable HERE (this one I used to make my beverage labels) What you get: And HERE What you get: And HERE What you get: To keep with our "Frozen" we had an ice cream topping bar, because what's more frozen delicious than ice-cream? Nothing I tell ya! Toppings included: M&M's, mini chocolate chips, gummi bears, Reeses pieces, Heath Bar toppins (found in baking section by chocolate chips), Mike&Ikes, Snowcaps, chocolate sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles, chopped peanuts, chocolate syrup, caramel syrup, Magic Shell and, of course, maraschino cherries. Instead of regular bowls I used Keebler waffle cone bowls found at any grocery store. It was the perfect size sundae serving for the kids. Then they got to add whatever delicious toppings they wanted. PS- "Magic Shell" was the biggest hit! She declared this to be "da greatest birfday ever!" For more ideas (some I used some I didn't) you can view my Frozen Party Idea Board on Pinterest Happy Creating Everyone!!

If you want to celebrate the end of another school year with the kids, this School's Out Summer Party is fun, simple and can be thrown in your own backyard. We've got food ideas, summer party decorations, activities, and invitations!
As you may have guessed from the rainbow party I threw last year ... I LOVE planning kids' birthday parties. They are just way too fun! So when my daughter, Julia, won a free princess visit from a local party company, the ideas began to run wild for her 3rd birthday party! First, Julia had to pick her princess and she chose her favorite ... Snow White. I decided I didn't want to throw a "store bought" Snow White party but rather wanted to create something unique. I chose to do Snow White's Enchanted Forest, complete with a forest themed food table, a picnic table for the kids to eat their lunch at and a variety of picnic / finger foods ... kid friendly of course! In addition, I decided to incorporate the classic Snow White colors of red, yellow and blue along with an apple motif and a few other classic elements from the Snow White fairy tale. I had so much fun being creative and putting the entire party together. I also tried to make as many things from scratch as possible in order to be cost effective ... because if you know me, that is another thing I enjoy ... saving money! :) Most importantly, Julia and her friends had a fantastic time celebrating her 3rd birthday. It was beyond adorable to see how Julia was in awe of having Snow White in her house and at her birthday party. She won't forget this day for a long time! Here are some of the party details in detail: As you enter our home we have a large black mirror that hangs across the hallway from our front door. I toyed with the idea of buying a decorative mirror to hang on the wall as Snow White's magic mirror but that would have set me back at least thirty dollars and so I decided to turn our mirror into Snow White's magic mirror. I drew a fancy mirror outline by hand on a piece of red poster board, cut it out and taped it on to the mirror. Ta da .. a magic mirror for the cost of 49 cents! Can't beat that! An added bonus was that as the guests entered the party they saw their own reflection in the mirror ... perfect since all of our guests are definitely "the fairest of them all". :) "Mirror, Mirror on the Wall, Who is the Fairest of them All?" For lunch, I wanted it to feel as if the kids were having a picnic with Snow White and so I put together a picnic table for the kids to eat their lunch at. Each of Julia's friends had his/her own place setting at the picnic table. The apples were cut out of card stock and hot glued to dollar store cups and forks. The fancy napkins I found on clearance at Party City. The table I borrow from my friend/next door neighbor, and the tablecloth I borrowed from my Mom. A great way to save money when having a party is to borrow things! Recognize those triangle banners? They are the same ones I created for Julia's rainbow birthday party last year. I simply re-purposed them by removing the green, orange and purple triangles. "Snow White's Enchanted Forest" Food Table. The backdrop for the table was dollar store streamers just twisted and then taped from the ceiling to the floor. Total cost = $3! I designed the sign for the wall and printed the birds as well. The little trees are part of my mom's Christmas decorations! :) And the giant red bow for the table I found on clearance after Christmas. The centerpiece for the table cost 50 cents. The silver bucket I already owned and I simply filled it with rocks. I then stuck greens in it that I had cut from the bushes in our yard along with twisted sticks I borrowed from my friend/next door neighbor. The 50 cents was spent on a Christmas decoration that I saw on clearance after Christmas that was made of greens, pine cones and red apples. I used it at the base of all the greens and twisted sticks to pull the entire look together. An added bonus is that I plan to use it as part of my Christmas decor next Christmas and so not only was it super cheep but it will serve more than one purpose! The food was all picnic themed food and kept as kid friendly as possible. I made the food labels on the computer and then glued them on cutout card stock red apples and then on pine cones. Made for a cute presentation. We served Sleepy's PB&J Sandwiches cut out like apples using an apple cookie cutter, Doc's Apple, Turkey & Brie Baguettes ... ... Dopey's Pasta Salad, Grumpy's Pretzel Chips, Bashful's Forest Fruit Skewers and Happy's Ham Tortilla Rollups. A big thank you goes to my Mom who was a HUGE help with the food! Then I of course had to continue the theme for drinks as well ... Wishing Well Water ... ... And Non Poison Apple Juice. For the cake, my Mom made this adorable personalized size Snow White cake for Julia using a Pyrex bowl as the cake mold and then inserting her Snow White Little Person at the top of the cake. She decorated it so that the cake looked like Snow White's ballgown. All the guests had their own personal Snow White cupcake. I found this adorable Snow White printout online (same one I used for the invitations), cut it out and taped it to a toothpick. We also served Snow White's Sugar Cookies. Made by my Mom using an apple cookie cuter. For the entertainment portion of the party, when the guests arrived, there were Snow White coloring pages and crayons on the table outside for them to color with. And then the real fun arrived. Snow White herself! She did face painting ... Taught the girls her princess dance and played a trivia game with the kids as they ate lunch. Then we played a wishing well game. I found the idea on Pinterest. The kid's threw pennies into the well (aka big white bucket with rocks at the bottom) and made wishes. They loved it! I had put ring pops on the bottom of the well and at the end of the game all the kids were able to pick out a ring pop. I was planning on doing a second game where the kids would pass around an apple like a hot potato and when the music stopped whomever was holding the apple would have to faint like Snow White. At the end of the game the plan was to have Julia pass out these little magical kisses to revive all the kids. :) A cute idea but after trying the game with Julia I came to the conclusion it was a bit too complicated for two and three year olds and so we skipped it and just handed out these little magical kisses as an additional favor. Speaking of favors, I lined them up on the fireplace mantle and they served as added party decorations. The Party Favor I wanted to send the kids home with a favor that wasn't full of sugar but rather was something they could do as a craft at home. I first found these cute woven baskets at the dollar store for 2 for $1 and thought they would be perfect to hold the favor! The red foam apples for the background were from the Target dollar bin, 4 for $1. I then saw these cute little bird houses at Micheal's for $1 each and thought they could become the fun craft for the kids to paint. I added a bottle of paint and a paint brush in each basket and then also a little bit of birdseed wrapped in saran warp and tied with a ribbon. The bird whistles I found on Amazon and thanks to a Pinterest idea put them in a clear bag with the tag "Whistle While You Work" ... free printable here. And finally the mushroom pencil sharpener and eraser were from Target and just were too cute not to include. A fun favor that hopefully the kids enjoyed when they went home! And finally the sign that said farewell to the guests ... "And They Lived Happily Ever After." Happy 3rd Birthday Julia!
