Target positional words with this fun, summer-themed product! This awesome, interactive product – with picture cues - can be used to target those tricky prepositional phrases! To prepare: Print all flashcards, laminate, and cut in half. If desired, hole punch in the top left corner, stack, and bind together with a metal ring. To use: Read each question to the students and have them state where each person or object is. Students can use the multiple choice options on the right side of each flashcard to answer the question. They can put a bingo chip or a clothespin clip on the correct answer. To make the activity more challenging, cover the multiple choice options with post-its and have the student answer the question. Then, he or she can check the answer with the multiple choice options.

Games! Games! Games! It is one of the reasons I love being an SLP. The tricky part is turning commercial games into therapy tools. My students love to play games, so what better way to motivate them to practice their speech targets. I love to use Pop Up Pirate, Jumpin Jack, Shark Bite, Pop the Pig, the Sneaky Snacky Squirrel, Yeti in my Spaghetti and Fishing games. One way you can use them is with articulation or language decks. The students practice their sounds or language target and then take a turn. Quick and easy. I have also started to use Game Companions that go along with each game. These game companions replace the dice or spinner that comes with the games. The spinners have targets that the students practice before they take turn. Shark Articulation and Language Game Companion For the games that do not use dice or spinners I use game mats that have articulation or language targets on them. When you remove game pieces from Fishing games or spaghetti from Yeti in my Spaghetti you place the game piece on the mat. There are targets on the mats that the students practice. These can also be used as Smash mats. Yeti Spaghetti Articulation and Language Game Companion I have created 2 Freebies that I wanted to share with you. I created free K sound spinners that I use with Jumpin Jack. The spinners can also be used by themselves as a game. Free Rabbit Game Companion for K sounds Another Freebie that I have created is for commercial Fishing games. It includes mats that target early apraxia syllables. There are mats for VC, CV, CVCV and CVC syllables. Free Apraxia Game Companions for Fishing Games Games are such a great motivators for our students. They are a great way to work with those mixed groups that always present a challenge in therapy. I hope these spinners and mats are helpful. Click here to follow my tpt store Speech Gems. I’m fairly obsessed with the Expanding Expression Tool (EET). I love how it incorporates so many language skills into one functional tool that I can pair with almost any activity. In order to keep my
This strategy goes by many names and while there may be some differences in the application of it for different fields, I'm of the mind that the essential elements (though the language used to describe them) are basically the same. So you will see it described as communication temptations, situational sabotage, natural environment teaching (NET), incidental teaching, Pivotal Response Training (PRT) and probably others I can't think of at the moment. However, the focus of them all is the same: to create an opportunity that motivates the learner to communicate something.
As the school year is winding down and you are thinking about all of the new things to include in your daily routine next year keep reading!!! The Expanding Expression Tool is an AMAZING resource that has helped my students become not only better writers but better communicators too. The Expanding Expression Tool or EET is used as a multi-sensory approach to improve oral and written language. Okay...so what does it look like and how does it work? Let's check it out..... What it looks like?: How does it work?: Each part of the EET serves a purpose. Check out the chart below to see what each color stands for. How can you use this to improve oral and/or written language? 1st- Select an item 2nd- have a student describe it 3rd- introduce EET 4th- have the student describe the item again and be amazed!! Example: You show the student penguin. They may say it's an animal that lives in the cold. After introducing EET the student will be able to share a lot more about the penguin. They will be able to tell you..... green/group: Animal blue/do: swim, walk/waddle, eat, lay eggs what does it look like?: black and white what is it made of?: comes from an egg pink/parts: flippers, bill, feathers, neck, eyes, webbed feet, claws white/where: Antarctica, zoo what else do you know?: males sit on eggs, mates for life, waddle and swim As the students get used to this their overall oral and written language will improve tremendously. You can use this tool in a variety of ways including, direct instruction, para led station, writing center, homework and more!! After my students were comfortable with EET, I set up an EET station in my classroom in lieu of my traditional writing center. You can even differentiate within EET. You may have some students who are just working on stating 1 word answers, but you can also have students practice responding in full sentences. Student 1 Example: Green/Group: animal Student 2 Example: Green/Group: The penguin belongs to the animal group. Overall, EET has been an amazing tool for my students and a wonderful additional to my classroom. We use this resource but you can also check out Teachers Pay Teachers for more. Or you can check out the original kit here! I hope you are able to implement EET into your day next year!! Follow my blog with Bloglovin
