For this 16th edition, the R&D team worked intensively on making the entire profile amazingly sleek and implemented original staggered seams on both the leading and the trailing edge. The seam’s tension line is thus broken, which means the entire profile of the canopy is leveled when the kite is fully powered. We kept the fabric’s orientation towards tension as well. On the back of the profile, we have reduced the overtensions thanks to the staggered seams. The two vertical 52g panels have been changed to one, and on sizes 9m² and smaller we developed a new 66g polyester double ripstop panel. It is stronger and more resistant on elongation to offer a better control of the profile on smaller sizes for higher winds. On sizes of 10m² and above, we have kept the 52g polyester to guarantee lightness, as well as the two layers of 52g canopy with staggered seams on the trailing edge. This all leads to more efficiency. Overall, this perfectly even canopy profile brings a greater sense of stability without feeling disturbances or the bar moving and leads to incredible performances in the high end. The struts’ reinforcements are now super sleek as well thanks to the Kevlar strip on the top. Louis XVI style mahogany, ormolu and marble top buffet from Belle Epoque period France c. 1890. The design of this buffet and the exceptional attention to the details of the construction as well as the quality of the materials reflects the originals created during the reign of Louis XVI in France (1774-1792). Please be sure to enlarge each of the additional photographs to see why this buffet remains eminently desirable. During the later eighteenth century the emphasis of interior decoration was on a balanced and symmetrical presentation of all of the objects in a room. The design of furniture as well as its placement were all chosen with this one goal in mind - order and simplicity enhanced the quality of life. Even when magnificent materials were used everything was subordinate to this idea. In this buffet the entire facade has been sheathed with boldly patterned mahogany set on the centre door in a chevron pattern. In order to give contrast the buffet features mounts of gilded bronze, known as ormolu in French, that gleam in the light. In the eighteenth century ormolu was an essential component of beautiful furniture. The addition of metal to furniture served two purposes. First, gilded bronze formed the handles used to open and close drawers as well as the pieces that guided the iron keys through the timber to the inside lock. These lock covers are called escutcheons. Also ormalu was added to the front legs of furniture where the feet touched the floor to protect the feet from an errant foot and mops and brooms. Ormalu was also added purely as a decorative enhancement to add both contrast and continuity to the overall appearance of the piece. In a time when the only light available at night came from natural sources of blazing fires and sputtering candles the ability of ormolu to reflect light was highly prized. Please look at the use of ormolu on this buffet. The generous size of the circular handles that allow easy access to the drawers is in contrasting shape to the diamond shape of the lozenges that wrap around the cylindrical legs. All of the recessed rectangular panels across the front as well as both sides are aslo outlined with ormolu frames that define their spaces. The escutcheons also gleam with the richness of ormolu. Even the top of the buffet is defined by a raised gallery rail of pierced brass that surrounds the original marble top. This gallery rail enabled serving dishes to be placed upon the marble surface and moved safely about as the raised aspect kept everything contained within the top. The buffet was designed to be seen from all directions because it is finished not only across the entire front but also the right and left sides feature the same beauty. This aspect of the buffet is an important indication of its overall quality and importance.

Antique French Louis XVI Style Dining Chairs in a set of (6) with new black leather. Our Old Plank Restoration and Upholstery Departments teamed up to transform an ordinary set of (6) Louis XVI Dining Chairs into something quite special. The antique grey painted finish was copied from an original 18th century French buffet we had in stock, so the shade of grey is period correct. Our Old Plank Upholstery department rebuilt all the chairs from the bare wood frames and everything was done in an old school manner, meaning no foam rubber seats to go bad after a few years of use, but rather horsehair and shredded coco fibers. Because this set of (6) Louis XVI Chairs are of a barrel-back design they tend to be far more comfortable than your more typical flat back. less

There have been times, as in our struggles to find Our Lady’s Shrine in Pontmain, France, and a Miracle of the Eucharist in Blanot, France, neither of which are on the map, when we almost gave up, but our Guardian Angel, the Angel of the media, St. Gabriel, kept us going until finally at the thirteenth hour, a good Samaritan would just point in a direction, and then we’d see a little dilapidated signpost for the place we were trying to find.But the real blessing has always been what we found when we arrived at the Shrine, sort of a gift from Our Lord Jesus or our dear Mother Mary, or the Saint we were tracking down. How beautiful are the tributes paid to those who love our Faith and everything connected with it. God is so good. He showers those whom He loves with the most beautiful tributes in the form of Shrines.Now in the instance of the magnificent tribute to Our Lady, Her Shrine in Altötting, Germany, we didn’t have to go out of our way that much. It really is very close to Munich, about 30 miles away, and is such an affirming example of the beauty of Bavaria. If you’ve ever had an image in your mind’s eye of the Germany of The Sound of Music, with the Tyrolean hats with the feathers in the cap, the big mustaches, the short pants and high socks of the men, the great beer halls, and the sound of ompah pah, that’s Bavaria.In a country largely Lutheran, Bavaria is a pocket of strong Catholicism, and very possibly the center of Catholicism. Their greatest strength at times of peril, has been their devotion to Our Lady at Altötting, and Her response to that great sign of Faith. We were told by a Catholic woman, who had been born and raised in Bavaria, and lived there during World War II, that Hitler thought all Bavarians were farmers and stupid, and so he didn’t send many troops to bother with them. What he and they didn’t realize was that Our Lady of Altötting was protecting them all the time. What did it matter if Her method of protecting them was to make Hitler think they were stupid? It worked, didn’t it?But let us get to the beautiful account of how Our Lady takes care of Her children here in this beautiful land. Altötting had unusual beginnings. Tradition tells us that it was originally a pagan temple. The history goes back to St. Rupert, known as the Apostle of Bavaria, who lived in this area in the Seventh century. He may very well have been Irish, because his Feast day, March 29, is also celebrated in Ireland and Austria. Austria would make sense as he was the Bishop of Salzburg, and actually gave the town its name, having changed it from its pagan name, Juvavum. St. Rupert (or Robertach, which was his Gaelic name) turned the pagan shrine of Altötting into a Christian Shrine, a Marian Shrine. A beautiful statue was made of Our Lady by St. Rupert, and somewhere around the Thirteenth century, the statue, which is venerated at the Shrine today, was made. Saint Conrad was a Holy Doorkeeper at the Capuchin monastery. Here Saint Conrad welcomed pilgrims and poor and homeless children. This Shrine is a favorite of Pope Benedict XVI. We describe the shrine to Saint Conrad as well as his tomb and living quarters.
