When I sat down to start designing the April kit for the Handmade Club, our challenging times were foremost in my thoughts. Given that the majority of us are staying safe and isolating at home right now, there’s more time for crafting… but for many the buying of craft supplies is more difficult, and in some cases not affordable, so I decided to create a kit that would serve you better. April’s kit, The Vintage Dressmaker, is a collection filled with useful craft storage items, so you can make use of what you already have, while organising your craft supplies.
Brunschwig & Fils Clos de Vougeot Handprinted Vintage Floral Wallpaper, 1980. Maury Paris Collection. Appears to be one double roll or a bit less than 10 yards. Clos de Vougeot, also known as Clos Vougeot, is a wall-enclosed vineyard, a clos, in the Burgundy wine region, and an Appellation d'origine contrôlée for red wine from this vineyard. It was named for the River Vouge, which is in fact only a stream separating the village Vougeot from Chambolle-Musigny. Gorgeous floral print with blue ribbon and bunches of grapes on a cream background.

There were three French lifestyle journals published before World War I. They were characterized by very limited circulation and abundant pochoir illustration. The most well-known was the Gazette du Bonn Ton, described as follows in Wikipedia: Introduction : La Gazette du Bon Ton…
The sun is shining and the temperatures are warming up daily! Happy Tea Time Thursday. It's almost May, so my thoughts turn to planting my flowers gardens. Jimmy got his veggies in yesterday and is quite pleased about that. My pretty floral teacup is sitting in my seed box that was a birthday present one year from Jimmy. We both fell in love with it out in Aurora and so it came home to live in Troutdale. The graphics are so bright and I love that it is not too large. I'm sure it sat on a counter tempting customers to take home some packages of seeds. I have a small collection of old seed packages and think it fun to display them in the open box. I'm always on the hunt for some older packs. I picked up this cup and saucer last weekend at an estate sale. It is just soooo perfect for spring. Our daffodils and tulips are done blooming this year, but there's always next year! It's trimmed in gold, but the handle is painted a soft green and I like that! The fine bone china cup and saucer is made by Salisbury and named "Tulips and Daffodils". It is made in England and is waiting for tea time! I just love to look at the graphics on the vintage seed packs and seed catalogs. Just so charming. So I'm going to have a cup of tea now and dream awhile about planting my flower garden. I always like to look at pictures and garden plans before I make that first trip to the garden center, but it will be very soon!

When the word "Geisha" is used, the mind automatically sees her in character, and in full dress wearing a Japanese kimono. However, a Geisha was what she was 24 hours a day -- no matter what she was wearing. Part of being a Geisha was modeling for the photographer. They were hired on a regular basis to "entertain" the photo-viewing public by appearing in all manner of dress and character. This could be anything from a "Hillbilly Housewife" to a "Bathing Beauty" in the latest swim-wear fashions. Or, in the case of pictures in this group -- visions of the exotic "Occident", or simply an ethereal creation of the photographer. No matter what, when the sun went down, and the Studio skylights grew dim, she would be back at her Tea House, or the Restaurant attached to her "Geisha House" donning her beautiful kimono, classic hairstyle, and white face in preparation for a busy night working hard at her true profession... and perhaps the next day, entertaining at a Wedding. (...and the day after that, singing in a Brothel as "pre-show"entertainment for men who were waiting their turn to sleep with a prostitute).
