The Signal SI333 table lamp by Jieldé is an iconic classic of French lighting design. Due to the robust metal structure and adjustable arm joints, Signal lamps are perfect for both home and office use. Inventor Jean-Louis Domecq created the first Jieldé lamp in 1950 for his own workshop. The lamp’s joints allowed for a great number of lighting positions, making it perfect for the most demanding working environments as well as for domestic use. To produce his lamp, Jean-Louis Domecq founded Jieldé in 1953 and named it after his initials J, L and D. All Jieldé lamps are manufactured in Lyon, France with the same traditional methods, and each lamp features a unique serial number.

A ceramics studio is made up of lots of elements, so I thought I’d break it down and give some insight on what I couldn’t live without. Here are some insights on handy tips and tricks for setting up a ceramic’s studio at home. Equipment Whether it’s hand-building or wheel throwing ceramics you’re interested in, there are bits and pieces that are needed for both. Here’s my list of things I’d be including in a home set-up studio. The first no brainer is clay, but how much and what type? I’d recommend heading down to your local pottery place and testing a few different types of clay to find what type is going to suit you best. Try something smooth and gritty. Blend them together? There are so many options! A pottery wheel. I have a Shimpo Whisper wheel! Buckets and containers – these are used more than you’d think, I find buckets in my studio important for the recycling of clay, storing glaze and for carry water needed for throwing or tidying up your pieces. Scales – both a standard kitchen scale measuring up to 5kg and a jewellers scales are important to help measure and prepare clay, as well as measuring glaze products. A bench or table – sturdy and level. Shelving – storage of equipment and the drying and storage of all your creations. I find it particularly useful to have a shelf for raw non bisque fired makings, a shelf for bisque fired and a shelf for finished glazed products, this helps to keep everything in order. Plaster bat – a plaster bat is incredibly useful to prepare clay and wedge clay on and is also useful to help in the recycling clay process as it absorbs water from the clay – I’ll pop up a tutorial of how to make a plaster bat at home very shortly. Drying boards – drying boards are useful to place hand built or thrown pieces onto, allowing them to be transferred easily. These can be made from plywood and are are easy and cheap to arrange. Banding wheel – useful to hand builders when making creations and helpful when trimming and carving pieces. Glaze – glaze is a complex component of pottery and as a beginning potter commercial glazes are a safe choice to make the process easier. Glazes can also be made at home from different elements but I would suggest that you invest some time in a glazing course before starting to mix your own. Kiln, – a kiln is a necessary but often quite expensive part of a ceramics studio and often quite a difficult machine to use without practice and guidance. To begin with I used a kiln firing service, which I believe is a great way to start off! Tools A beginners set of tools that I believe are important in a ceramic’s studio include trimming tools, sponges, a cutting wire, ribs, a paintbrush, a rolling pin and cookie cutters. Sanding Pads – finishing your work is key! Big sponges for cleaning. A ruler! A stainless steel one is great and easy to wipe clean! Aprons & towels. A mask – protect your lungs when mixing glazes! Glazing tongs and brushes. These items help to shape your creations and give a good basis for your pottery journey. My Tips & Tricks Having a water source in your studio area or one nearby is very useful but not always necessary. Ensure that you are not putting chemicals and clay into our waterways so recycling your clay rather than tipping it down the drain by using a bucket system or clay trap in your studio. How about a treat? Check out Diamond core tools and Bison Studios for top quality tools to last forever! Make your studio space a happy place, set it up how you like, fill it with inspiration and get your pot on!

webpack is a brilliant tool for bundling frontend assets. When things start to slow down, though, its batteries-included nature and the ocean of third-party tooling can make it difficult to optimize. Poor performance is the norm and not the exception. But it doesn’t have to be that way, and so — after many hours of research, trial, …

Learn to weave beautiful handwoven cloth by understanding how to plan a warp, dress a table loom and weave interesting patterns and textures! Skill Level: Beginners Learn hand-weaving using all the equipment, tools, materials and processes necessary to create hand-woven textiles in our popular Introduction to Table & Rigid Heddle Loom Weaving workshop! This 2-day workshop offers a small group of just 8 students the rare opportunity to learn how to weave from an experienced weaver working in the field of contemporary weaving and be inspired to create some wonderful hand-woven samples of their own! What will students learn? On the first day of this beginner workshop students will learn and practice the fundamentals of hand-weaving by setting up a warp for a table loom. Under our guidance they will learn what it means to design and wind a warp, dress a loom, thread heddles, reed and tie on a warp. Students will be encouraged to support each other at each step of this process. On day two of the workshop students will explore different materials and learn to create patterns, demonstrating how different combinations can effect the outcome of a woven sample. Students will then work at their loom, following basic patterns, developing their own patterns and will weave their own fabric. There will be plenty of time to ask questions, explore different materials, troubleshoot and develop a beautiful, handwoven cloth that follows their own design aesthetic. A short lunch break will be taken at a convenient time for participants on both days, with students bringing their own lunch or purchasing something from The Hayfield Deli across from the studio. Refreshments such as tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Students will also have access to our library of weaving books and our incredible selection of weaving yarns and fabric samples to use as inspiration. We will discuss different types of handwoven fabric and their uses and welcome students to bring in any resources they feel will help enhance their experience. Who is this workshop for? This workshop is suitable for beginners who have little or no experience with weaving or those who need a reminder of the basics of how to set up a table loom. If you're still not sure what you can achieve by handweaving on a table loom, then check out our blog posts that help you to understand the 2 main types of weaving. Check out What is Tapestry Weaving? and What is Handweaving? What type of looms do we weave on? We currently have 4 table looms available in the studio for students to use. We have 3 Harris Table Looms and 1 Swedish Tojikvaala Loom. They all have a different number of shafts, but for this workshop we will only be using 4 shafts to keep things simple. We also now have the opportunity for 4 students to bring their own loom to the workshop! This is an exciting way to learn how to set up and weave on your own loom, especially since you will then have a warp set up to weave on and complete in your own time. You will need to have a table loom or Rigid Heddle Loom (RHL) for this workshop (not a Frame Loom) as we will be teaching how to wind and set up a warp for table looms only, including the simpler warp set up for RHL users. You would also need to bring your own reed, sticks, warping frame (if available) and accessories so you have everything necessary to bring home with you at the end of the workshop. We will provide you with a list of all the equipment and materials you will need for this workshop if you are booking the OWN LOOM option. We will provide the yarn. Workshop Dates: May 16th & 17th 2024 (Thursday & Friday) Workshop Location: Workshops are held in our studio, with the possibility of working in our gallery space in the building (space permitting). What’s included: 2 full days of tuition (9:30 - 16:30) Dedicated access to a 4-shaft table-loom during the 2 day workshop OR *NEW* Bring your table own loom! All yarns and materials Weaving notes as per the session Refreshments (tea, coffee, biscuits) Guaranteed fun in a relaxed environment What is not included: Lunch (you are free to bring your own or purchase something delicious from The Hayfield Deli across from the studio) Accommodation Want to purchase this workshop as a gift? Please purchase a Gift Voucher instead to ensure the recipient receives all the required information and can book their preferred date at their leisure!
