Lorsque la personne commencera son activité, le risque de blessure sera élevé car le muscle sera habitué à dépasser son seuil de tolérance à la douleur. Et ce n’est pas tout. Un étirement impose à un muscle une tension maximale qui peut engendrer des microtraumatismes au niveau des fibres musculaires. Lors de l’effort, les parties du corps étirées peuvent s’avérer ainsi plus douloureuses. En outre, les muscles et ligaments possèdent des gardiens contre les étirements excessifs, appelés mécanorécepteurs. Ces derniers sont responsables de la proprioception, véritable réflexe protégeant nos articulations en cas de risques d’entorses ligamentaires. Ce réflexe proprioceptif est perturbé par le stretching pendant plus d’une heure. Un effet négatif sur la performance S’il ne l’aide pas à se prémunir des blessures, le stretching ne permet pas non plus au sportif d’augmenter ses performances.
