The end of the year brings testing, finishing up grades, field days, assemblies, and more! Between all of this (plus exhaustion!) it can get hard to continually create engaging lesson plans. Having low-prep, meaningful end
For most of you, the school year is finally wrapping up and all you can think about is a million things you have to do before you walk out the door for summer. If you're like me, you just want to stuff it all in a big closet and head to the nearest airport for a much-needed getaway to anywhere but here. Believe me, it's a terrible idea! I've tried leaving it all behind only to come back at the end of the summer to a huge mess that I'd rather throw into a big burn pile than clean up. Let's be honest, May is exhausting! From testing to paperwork to cleaning to saying those bittersweet goodbyes -it's draining - physically and emotionally. Motivation tends to dwindle away during this time of the year. Making a to-do list and crossing items off tend to give me a slight rush that keeps my motivation going. Surely I'm not alone here! I use an end of year checklist very similar to the one below, and I've adapted it to hopefully be more beneficial for a wider range of teachers. I know your to-do list is rapidly growing just as fast as mine is, and most teachers I know are list-makers. This list keeps me moving during those last weeks and days. I hope it helps to motivate you, as well as keep you organized as you wind down another school year. Download it now for free! Did I leave anything off the list? If so, add your thoughts in the comments below. I'll add them to the checklist! Don't forget to enter our giveaway below! It ends on May 31st! a Rafflecopter giveaway
It's has been awhile since I last posted. I've actually been sick and totally exhausted. I've also given up sugar and sweets, so my lack of soda may have something to do with that exhaustion. There's only one week left of school, and saying goodbye to my second graders will be so sad. With goodbyes on my mind, I decided to create End of Year ABC's. We start the year, with our ABC's of second grade, so I thought we'd end in a similiar fashion. It's a FREEBIE, just click below. I also posted on TPT my Color Cuties Clipart. If you haven't grabbed the black and white set. You can get them for free here. Here is a peek at the color set: I'm off to bed, but I would like to give the color version to the first 3 people that leave a comment. I will send it your way tomorrow, please don't forget to leave your e-mail. Thanks :)

Want a super special activity for the end of the year? This craftivity provides students with the opportunity to reflect on their past year by creating a camera mobile which they can treasure for years to come. In the activity, students create a camera with 6 hanging pictures. The individual pictures ask students to detail the following: ♥ Something I’ve learned… ♥ My favorite day… ♥ The best book I’ve read… ♥ Something I’m proud… ♥ This is my teacher… ♥ My goal for next year… Depending on your students’ abilities, they can fill the pictures with text, drawings or a combination of both. I have included step-by-step instructions as well as the pieces you will require. All you need is cardstock/cardboard (or thicker paper), twine (or string/yarn) and tape/glue. I have also included an AUS/UK version with alternate spelling for the words color (colour), favorite (favourite) and learned (learnt). The finished product is approximately 60cm in height. I came home from school yesterday and cried. And not because the end of the year is so overwhelming, busy, and exhausting...{although that may be where part of the tears are coming from. JK! #AmIJustKiddingThough??} But because I’m going to miss my kids SO much. For 180 school days, 23 of my third grade students and I have laughed, cried, worked hard, learned so many new things together, and have built some really amazing relationships with one another. I’ve watched them grow not only as readers and mathematicians, but in their growth mindset, their confidence and in their character. We

Get ready for Summertime with fun end-of-year party ideas! Say goodbye to the school year in style! An end-of-year party will have you ready for summer!
Today was our last day of school! To begin our day, I wanted our morning work to be a bit more fun, but something that would hold my children's interest for a while. I got this idea from a follow teacher and quickly saw how much fun they would have, so I went with it. I covered their group of desks with bulletin board paper, and I put out washable markers, which they almost never get to use. When they came in I told them they would get to draw all over their area with markers, and they could draw anything they wanted. They absolutely loved it! Here's a picture of one of the group's handiwork. I thought this drawing was so cute! As the day went one, we played math games, cleaned our desks and looked through all of our folders before packing them for home. I read stories to them and we worked on our Memory Books. They loved playing our End of Year Scavenger Hunt. They looked for friends who loved or were doing certain things mentioned on the scavenger hunt. You can get your FREE copy by clicking on the name, End Of Year Scavenger Hunt. All day long, they asked the same question over and over... "Is it time for the party to start?" Finally, it was time! For the End-of-Year party, we made Ice Cream Sundaes, complete with all the toppings! While we enjoyed our sweet concoctions, we watched our End-of-Year photo video, featuring all of my sweet kiddos. After the video, I handed each kid or parent a card with the QR code and link to the End-of-Year photo video, where they can download the video to their own computer. In addition to the End-of-Year photo video I spoke about in my last post, I like to give my students a little going away present. I found these colorful beach pails at Dollar General for a buck each. I used paint pens to personalize a pail for each of my students. To go inside each pail, I made a treat bag with a few pieces of candy. Then I put the treat bag inside beach pail, along with a couple of pieces of sidewalk chalk. I found a large container of 54 pieces of sidewalk chalk at Hobby Lobby for $6, and using the weekly 40% off coupon, the whole thing was less than $4. That was about 7 cents for each piece of chalk - a real bargain. Finally, I gave my sweet kiddos their personalized beach pails to take home and enjoy over the summer, and received in return, some of the sweetest hugs and smiles. It was a great party to end a great year!
End of Year Activities 5 comments End of Year, Weekend Warriors The countdown is on for many of us! Summer is almost here (3.5 days for me-eek)! And, it's the end of the month which means it's time for Weekend Warriors! This month, my fellow Weekend Warriors and I thought it was fitting to share our favorite end of year activities with you. One of my favorite end of year activities is to task my students with painting a self portrait. Another self portrait that is. I always have my students paint one during the first week of school. The portraits then hang in our classroom the whole year. But, it's super fun to have them paint another picture at the end of the year to see just how far their skills have come. And, the parents love them! They are definitely a keepsake item. When my students make their portraits, they use a black crayon to draw the outline (or a Sharpie, it just depends on our crayon situation at this point in the year). Then, they paint with watercolor. Tip: I like to use card stock instead of construction paper. It seems to handle the watercolor better. You can read more about our self portraits HERE. Another fun end of year activity is to make some tie dye shirts! That is, if you aren't afraid to get your hands dirty. ;) It's an easy (but kind of messy) way to let your students have fun together during those last few days of school. Have your students bring in a white t-shirt and get the fun started! Be sure to remind your students that they don't necessarily need to go out and buy a new white shirt for this. Most likely, your students have an old white shirt somewhere at home. Encourage them to bring those in, the dye will give the shirt new life (and the parents will be happy about not having to buy a new shirt). TIP: Ask your health office to donate a few pairs of protective gloves. This will help protect your hands and nails from the dye. Once the shirts are all dyed and washed, have the class wear their shirts on the same day! I realize that working with dye isn't for everyone. So, if you prefer to stay nice and clean, then dress as a class the easy way! That is, decide on a theme and dress alike! You can come up with lots of fun themes, but here are a few color theme suggestions: Neon Black and White (this one is easy because pretty much everyone has black and white in their closet) Red, White, and Blue (Patriotic) Or, you could go for a theme like one of these: Hawaiian/Luau/Beach attire (minus the swimwear, of course) Nerds (a fourth grade class did this one year and it was so cute) Crazy socks Thanks for stopping by today, friends! I hope you were able to grab an idea or two! DON'T FORGET IT: PIN IT! Share It:
