The Emigrant Wilderness is a vast and stunning wilderness area of Stanislaus National Forest located in the Sierra Nevada. A true California treasure, it features spectacular scenery that will eclipse any adventurer's wildest dreams.
I reprocessed an earlier shot as Lightroom practice. Worth the effort I think. And in case you're interested to know what made the transformation, I raised the exposure, clarity and vibrance of the scene (though the exposure is the main difference). At the same time I applied a graduated filter keeping the exposure down in the sky, and used the adjustment brush to keep the exposure down on the reflection in the lake. Now it's a little like I'd had a handy graduated filter there with me at the time. __ I'm here to learn. I love feedback on my shots, particularly constructive - if you see something I can improve please don't hold back, I want to know. Thanks!
Treasure Lakes, Emigrant Wilderness, Stanislaus National Forest, California. Better on Black Original and other sizes This image is part of my Eastern Sierra set. Here's another image made during a water filtering and snack break at Treasure Lakes. The morning started with clear skies although it had rained the previous evening. As we hiked to Treasure Lakes the clouds kept building in the northeast and then really started to gather overhead while we were here. We left for our destination of Wire Lakes shortly after this image was made and before we made it to the eastern end of this lake the rain began. The rainstorm was one of those for which the Sierra Nevada is famous -- localized, intense and relatively short-lived. However, these clouds would stay with us for the entire day, bringing more rain as we arrived at Wire Lakes to set up camp. This is a single exposures made with a Nikon D40 and Nikkor 18-200mm. A quick trip down memory trail to see what inspired this trip…while working on the Stanislaus National Forest in 2006 I was out exploring the forest along Highway 108 and stopped at a turnout to og…
