Welcome to this Bloghop of the International Totally Techniques Designteam! This month we have chosen another fun technique again and together we will show you several examples of it! Happy to see you here! This time our technique is playing with Embossing Paste. This simple looking "stuff" is so much fun and you can do all kind of techniques and get great effects with. Embossingpaste is a creamy material that is packed in a white airtight container. It is used to make texturee on paper. It is usually applied with a Palette Knive, often on top of a decorative mask. But there is more you can do with it. One of these other possibilities was used on this card. This time I used the Shimmery White Embossingpaste and made a grungy background, with lots of colour! Ofcourse I love to explain to you what I did to get this effect! I start with a piece of Shimmery White Cardstock. On random places I add some of the Shimmery White Embossing Paste and spread it out with one of the Palette Knives. Some pieces are covered with a thicker layer, others with only a very thin layer. There are also areas that are not covered at all. When the paste has dried thoroughly I sprinkle some of the new Pigment Sprinkles on it. Those Pigment Crystals have six beautiful Stampin'Up Colours! Oh I really love them! I activate the pigments by spraying some water over the paper with the Stampin'Spritzer. You now see the colours coming to live. They are bright and so intense! Because of the Embossingpaste we get lots of texture, which give an other effect on the Pigment Crystals too. The color emphasizes the texture in a very nice way. The colours are so bright, vivid and fresh! When you look close you see lots of grungy layering of texture and pigments. It is hard to make a clear picture of it! The vocal point is blending nicely with the background by using the same colours. I made he flower with the stampset Pluk de Dag and a few punches. I stamped the flowers with matching colors and also sponged them to make several colors blend. The Stampset Pluk de Dag is the Dutch translated version of the Daisy Lane stampset. Together with the matching Medium Daisy punch they can be ordered as a bundle. Other punches I used were the (bigger) Daisy punch and a 1 1/8 inch scalloped Circle punch. The green leaves are from the same stampset. After stamping them I fuzzycut and sponged them. To build the flower I used three Big Daisies, two medium Daisies and two scalloped Circles. The circles were cut in with the papersnips to make them fringy. To "balance" the glittery effect of the background I added a Faceted Gem in Gold into the flower. De tekst komt uit de zelfde stempelset. Altijd goed toch, Groetjes! En wat een prachtige grote letters! The text comes from the same stampset. Don't you love that big font? I LOVE Stampin'Up!!
I've been wanting to play with paints lately and today was the day! These are the two final results. I know I still want to do a lot with these two-page spreads, but I'm still contemplating exactly what. Easy-peasy and literally about 10 minutes per spread. Here is what I did. I started with Dylusions' Creative Journal by Dyan Reaveley. It's a large 11 13/16" x 9" journal, with pages measuring 11 3/8" x 8 1/4". The pages are heavy duty cardstock that hold up to lots and lots of water. I spritzed some water onto my paper, then I sprayed a bit of vibrant turquoise Dylusions Ink Spray onto the wet page. To make this spread I literally used three colors. As they spread and mix, they make other colors. In addition to the turquoise, I sprayed on some Bubblegum Pink . . . . . . and Lemon Zest. Then I spritzed more water onto the page . . . . . . and closed the book. I pressed down the pages with the book closed, then opened it back up again. At this point I had wet, gloppy color on both pages. I used a wad of paper towels to blot up the water. I added bits of color in the blank spaces, and ended up with beautiful, bright colors. These are the ink sprays I used. Next, I took some stencils I also got from Dylusions. I held this one in place and spritzed some water onto the page - through the stencil. I let it sit for a couple seconds, then lifted the stencil. At this point my stencil was wet on the top side, so I turned it over and placed it face-down on the adjacent page. I pressed it down, then lifted it and removed it. I let both pages sit with the water on them for about 30-45 seconds. The wetness of the water re-activated the ink and the color started lifting everywhere the water was. After that 30-45 seconds, I dabbed the wetness with the paper towel, and dried my page with a heat gun. This technique is called 'ghosting.' I loved the pages just like this, but still wanted to add to them. I inked a stamp with Stayz-On ink and stamped it onto my pages in two different spots. This was the end result. I will probably do more work on this, and at the absolute least I will tangle on these pages. My second set of pages started off like this. I applied the ghosting technique with some steampunk elements. I really love this set also! I know that I will add more to these pages tomorrow. I will have to show you more photos when I get them complete. Now, off to tangle on the pink pages! I can't wait to see how they turn out!

Supplies needed: Masking tape, chalks, cotton wool balls, card stock Tear your masking tape into thin strips and stick on the card Once you have got your masking tape in a pattern you like, lift it off your work area and onto a piece of scrap paper, making sure it is firmly fixed Next apply the chalk in your preferred colour, ensuring you work it into the edges Cover the whole piece, you can use more than one colour if you wish Carefully peel off the masking tape ensuring that you don't touch the card stock Once you have peeled all the masking tape off, bang the card stock on your work area to get rid of the excess chalk You can spray your card stock with a cheap hairspray to set it, but personally I don't bother

As you all may know, there are two main kinds of embossing that we do. One is "dry embossing", where you emboss the paper with either a stencil or embossing folder, using a die cut machine or an embossing stylus. The other is heat embossing, where you apply powder to ink on your paper and heat it until it melts. For this technique, we are doing both kinds! RUBBER MAT Before I get into the technique, I want to talk about rubber mats. To emboss a stencil or die using your die cut machine (Big Shot or Cuttlebug) you need a rubber mat. In this technique I used a regular rubber mat (Spellbinders tan mat) and had to shim with 5 pieces of cardstock to get it to make an adequate impression. Lynell Harlow, who pioneered this technique, developed a thicker mat to use, that works much better. Art 'n Soul is going to try to obtain some of these mats from Stampendous. Lynell has said that Stampendous has some in stock, but it's uncertain whether they will continue to carry it. We plan to try to get them in before Lynell's classes in August (which you should not miss; please scroll down for details) Please order one of these mats from Art 'n Soul if you want one, because they may not be available indefinitely. Now for this technique: I should say that I learned this from Lynell Harlow, and it's not only beautiful, but it's fun to do. My way is slightly different from Lynell's, but both work. I chose the Magenta Triangles stencil (TM-221) for this technique. I cut a panel of 80# Neenah Solar White cardstock to 3.75" x 5", using the Lawn Fawn LF-768 Small Stitched Rectangle Stackables die. I taped the panel to the back of the stencil and embossed it in my Big Shot machine. Every machine is different, and you may have to figure out the appropriate sandwich for your machine. For mine, I opened Tab 1 (you should set up your machine the way you would to emboss with an embossing folder) and I put down a metal shim, my rubber mat, 5 pieces of shim cardstock, my stencil with the panel taped to it, and both cutting plates. Once my panel was dry embossed, I added color using a mini blender and Distress Oxide inks in Wilted Violet, Broken China, and Cracked Pistachio. (The panel was still taped to the stencil at this point). If you move quickly with this process, you can remove the stencil and add your embossing powder to your panel, since Oxide inks are a fusion of dye and pigment inks and can be heat embossed. Unfortunately, since I did not move quickly enough, the bottom of my panel had dried. I replaced the stencil and added Versamark ink with a mini blending tool and added clear embossing powder over the panel. Once the panel was heat set, I decided to add another coat of clear embossing, so I placed the stencil again and added more Versamark ink, then more clear embossing powder. Placing the stencil is very easy at this point, because the triangles and squares have become raised up by the double embossing. Once I had the second layer of embossing done, I absolutely loved the look of the shiny and bright triangles and squares! I cut a strip of the panel, matted it in So Silk Glamour Green cardstock, and adhered it to my base card of Neenah Solar White 110# cardstock. I then die cut "Thank You" out of glossy black cardstock, using the Hero Arts Fancy Thank You die DI080. I sprinkled a few sequins at the end, and I still have half a panel to make another card. I hope you try this beautiful technique! Come in and see the card at the shop, it is so cool in real life. If this technique appeals to you, please check out Lynell Harlow's 4 new incredible stencil classes. Magenta Products Used: (If you are local, please look for products at Art 'n Soul.
