In an attempt to subvert traditional embroidery culture, Lithuanian artist Severija Inčirauskaitė-Kriaunevičienė applies standard floral and decorative patterns found in embroidery magazines to metallic objects like plates, spoons, lamps and even car doors. The juxtaposition of functional objects emblazoned with traditional textile work is certain unexpected and little amusing, an aspect Severija further illustrates with some of her more humorous pieces depicting cigarette butts embroidered at the base of a tin can, or the skewed reflection of a person’s mouth on the edge of a spoon. Hello my dear friends, I found three J. & P. Coats machine cotton boxes over a year ago in an antique store and they just had to be mine ... to put them into a drawer and that's where they were until a few days ago. I finally decided to sit down and use them after finding my original idea I had in my little book and not only do they look nice but there are also useful now! My little boxes ... ... each box is slightly smaller/larger than the others but that doesn't matter at all because each one is just as pretty as the other. So far I have finished the largest one of the three by filling it with all sorts of neat sewing things ~ sorry, I mean haberdashery things! ( I like this word ... haberdashery ~ it sounds really neat and old fashioned!) I took many photos for you to see everything and not miss a thing! My first haberdashery box ... The box is lined with a piece of an old pattern sheet and tied up with string ... ... that holds an aged tag with a very neat quote that I made and ... ... once opened there are so many bits and pieces ~ some old and new ... but see for yourselves! I hope you have enjoyed my latest doings and now I am off, to work either on the other two boxes or maybe another creation ... I not sure which it will be yet, but please do stop by soon again here at Todolwen to see my next creation! I hope you are well and life is treating you kind. Have a peaceful and creative day, Karen B.

TAST-2012-9th Week-Couching Stitches This week Sharon has announced Couching Stitches for the challenge. You can visit Sharon's Page at Pintangle for further information. I have not done much couching before. So I am very excited to get this opportunity to explore the couching stitches. here are my first set of attempts: My stitches are not perfect as I am finding it difficult sometimes to work on even weave fabric. I need more practice. Moreover after working many hours on key board, when I finally take up this needle work late in the night, my fingers don't co-operate with me :) :).... Well these are my first attempt and I am warming up. But I have some idea in my mind for exploring which may be different and unique. Well let me explore and see whether they turn out well. So Keep an eye. Pin It
