The Rocky Mountain elk (Cervus canadensis) became the official State animal of Utah in 1971. All Mammal Symbols Called 'wapiti' by the Shawnee Indians, elk are members of the deer family and associate closely with the deer and moose of Utah. Elk once inhabited most of the USA, but are now found only west of the Rocky Mountains (elk are plentiful in the mountain ranges of Utah).

Are you looking for November math centers for kindergarten during Month of November? In November, we start to introduce a lot of new concepts in math. Although my school implements Everyday Math, the small group activities are not enough to help students master concepts. So I have created centers that will help reinforce small lesson concepts and build these important skills. If your school is like mine, Kindergarten teachers are responsible to create their own timeline of when important concepts should be taught and implemented in the classroom. I created this blog post to share the math concepts and activities that I introduce and use in the month of November click (here) to see the unit (it includes literacy concepts as well).

At the beginning of every year my teaching partner and I incorporate lots of name recognition, construction, and writing provocations to engage children. Here are some of our favourites so far this…
Hi there! I'm linking up with Kacey from Doodle Bugs Teaching to share a little about my week! 1. I'll be teaching at a new school next year and I am SUPER excited about it! I have amassed quite the collection of teaching resources, as I'm sure you can relate, and want to keep it all organized so my move is as easy as possible. Our sweet secretary has been collecting empty copy paper boxes for me. I made these giant labels and stuck them on the side of each box. As I'm packing things up, I just throw the item in the box it belongs in! 2. We only have a little over 5 weeks of school before my little scholars go to 1st grade. This time of year can be challenging for managing behavior and keeping students invested and engaged in the work they are doing. I wanted to excite my little scholars for what is to come but also keep them focused on reaching the goals I have set for them. So without further adieu, I introduce... I used the Soldier Boy and Girl craftivity from Miss Kindergarten to make this. Do you think this will motivate my little scholars to keep working hard for the next 20 something days? 3. We have our end of year DIBELS testing in just a few days and I want to make sure my little scholars are as prepared as possible. I get SO excited when the data is presented to us...I love calculating my little scholars' growth! We've been using my Sound Count Sort pack to practice phoneme segmentation and I added the sand pails for a little novelty :) 4. My little scholars have been using one of their favorite math center activities this week. They each get a bag with a set of addition cards. They solve the equation and place a clothespin on the correct answer. It is such a hit! I love it too because the prep is super easy and it doesn't require color ink! Can I get an amen? You can find it [here]. 5. I definitely saved the best for last...MY MOM is visiting this weekend! I'm originally from CA and moved to rural MS to teach in an underserved school several years ago. I miss my mom dearly and I am beyond ecstatic that she is coming to visit. Her BFF (and my room mom from afar) is also coming with her...it's going to be a fabulous girls' weekend! Here is my guest room ready for their visit. I'd love to see your Five for Friday! Link up :)

We love to sing and rhyme in our classroom. One of our favorite songs to jam out to is Jack Hartman’s “Make a Rhyme, Make a Move” from his Hip Hop Alphabop Volume 2 CD. As a quick time filler, I put some of the miniatures from the Lakeshore Vowel Teaching Tubs into a basket and pass one out to each child. Make sure that you have enough sets of rhymes for the children in your class. So, if I have 18 kids, I will put 9 rhyming pairs into the basket. We sing this song: Yes, it’s kinda corny (ok, really corny), but you have to be corny with Kinders! (You can download it by clicking on it!) The cute clipart is by Lauren Thompson of the First Grade Diaries. We also rocked out with a little Queen-esque rhyming. Yes, really corny, but the kids LOVE it. Channel your inner Freddy Mercury and sing on. I pass out the cards to the kiddos (you can use the little miniatures too) and have them find the person with their rhyming match. I call up groups of 2 and we sing the song with their rhymes. Oh, and you totally have to get the rhythm going with lap slaps and claps! (You WILL hear them chant it for the rest of the day!) Click on the image for the download! What’s your favorite activity to practice rhyming?
Another week down and I am still wiped! There is no kind of tired like teacher tired at the beginning of the year! { For sure!} I am linking up with Doodle Bugs Teaching to showcase my week. We focused on colors. There are so many good books and ideas out there about colors. It was hard to try to narrow down my activities. These are what I ended up with. We read 'Brown Bear Brown Bear What Do You See?' To retell the story using these adorable bear puppets. The littles loved them! I got them from a fellow teacher in my building. She thought they were originally from Miss Kindergarten. Please let me know if this is not correct! We also manipulated play-doh to cover these brown bear mats. The little ones each had an animal from the book to cover with tissue paper squares to make our own brown bear class book. I love how these turned out! 'Dog's Colorful Day' was another story we read. We practiced gluing dots on this dog. The morning class had fewer dots to glue on since they are younger and less experienced. :) After reading 'Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes' the little learners worked on a cause and effect activity. First we completed the activity on an actor chart as a whole group. Then each little one had their own paper to complete. They did awesome! I love Labor Day weekend! My Tigers begin their football season AND the Kansas City Irish Fest is this weekend. Heaven :) I work part-time at Anthropologie, mostly because I have an addiction to that store. :) It is a great company. If you are a teacher from now until September 7th you can get a 15% discount by showing your teacher ID. Link up your week with Doodle Bugs Teaching. Thanks for reading! Have a great day. :)

Here are some pictures of my class during "Daily 5" with Spring activities! Bang! is a favourite of theirs - they pull a card from the bucket and can keep it if they can use the vocabulary in a sentence. They try to collect the most cards by the end of the game. If they get a "bang!" card, they can pull another card. Sometimes we also play that they have to put all their cards back into the bucket. Bang: Here they are testing my spring "freebie" on TPT. They have to sort the cards into the correct order to make the correct sentences! These cards have pictures that match the word wall cards/flashcards I use with them. They can write sentences on the laminated cards: Here are two of their desks! They LOVE writing on their desks. They can draw a picture and write sentences to describe it. We are working on different strategies for sounding out words and for editing (P.O.M.M.E.S.). Here is a puzzle game for vocabulary acquisition/reading practice: Last but not least, some Read to Self :) What do your students love to choose during Daily 5?
