Have You Seen an Elephant?: 1 : ELLIS, ELINA: Amazon.com.au: Books
Well, here is a very interesting Illustrator! I am particularly glad to announce that she, like me, was born in 1980 in Russia! (although her family moved to Israel quite a while ago). She has a brilliant website, so if you want to know the details of her biography and a lengthy list of her awards, please have a look HERE. I think that her work is truly unique and very quirky! There is something magical about it! Something weird, but in a nice way! In a warm and funny way! This is what she says about illustration: "I truly believe that illustration can positively affect our mood, broaden our imagination and contribute a lot of charm and beauty to our surrounding. When I illustrate a book I try to create joy and humor which, in my opinion, is one of the most important elements of the art of illustration, and to include them in the general concept of the book." And I can't but agree!!!! So, here is a real treat, some of her drawings! Enjoy!!!
Quentin Greban is another huge love of mine!!!! His watercolours are amazing!!!!! Every time when I look at his illustrations, I want to pick up a brush and try it myself! I adore this media but I am useless with it! It is so light and unforgiving! One wrong stroke and the picture is ruined! I know that watercolour is not as easy as it looks, and this is one of the reasons why I admire Quentin's technique so much! It is perfect, beautiful, delightful! It is light and vivid at the same time. It is so clean and deep and just mesmerising!! Just have a look!!! Quentin Gréban was born in 1977 in Brussels (Belgium) where he still lives today. He studied illustration at Saint Luc’s institute in Brussels. Since 1999 Quentin has published more than 15 children’s books in several French‚ Belgian‚ German and Greek publishing houses. His books are translated in many countries (Germany‚ Denmark‚ Hungary‚ England‚ Canada‚ Greece‚ Korea‚ United States…)He received the Saint–Exupéry award in 2000 for «Les contes de l’Alphabet» (Editions du Jasmin). His work has been selected in 1999 and 2000 in the Annual of the Bologna. Children’s Bookfair(Italy). Now Quentin writes and Illustrates his own books as well as the books of other famous authors. He is known all over the world and his books are loved everywhere!!! They are most definitely loved in my house, because they are kind, simple yet very sophisticated with a great deal of mastery and talent!!!! But enough words - Just enjoy the drawings!!!
Not long ago I have found a fantastic little book about birds by Matt Sewell - a well known contemporary British artist and illustrator! Here it is: I practically fell in love with it! It is a pocket size book, although quite large pocket, I have to say. It has lovely texture and design to it. This book is exceptionally pleasant to hold and to touch! In fact, it is so cute and sweet and lovely in a very English sort of way, that you want to hold it for a really long time... I did anyway! It has a different bird for each week of the year, and the illustrations are fantastic! You can see some spreads here. I love watercolour, and Matt's watercolour birds are fun! They are colourful, and cheeky and they actually inspire you to get out there and start noticing the birds and comparing them to the ones in the book! But I am talking too much again... Just have a look at some of these cuties!!!
Anthony Browne doesn't really need introduction. He is an internationally acclaimed author and illustrator of children's books, with nearly 40 titles to his name. Gorillas feature in many of Anthony's books. He says, 'I am fascinated by them and the contrast they represent – their huge strength and gentleness. They're thought of as being very fierce creatures and they're not.' There is A LOT written about him, so I will not talk much, I just wanted to show you some of his illustrations! During his time as Children's Laureate, Anthony promoted the importance of picture books and children's illustration. He was keen to encourage children to be creative and use their imaginations, and to support the development of visual as well as verbal literacy. This is how the Shape Game appeared! This is a fantastic game and everybody who has a child should try and play it! It is a lot of fun!!! You can even play it online here! I have been lucky enough to meet Anthony personally and even to have dinner with him. He is an extremely inspirational and interesting person! My son loved him too! He was telling Anthony loads of jokes and I was petrified that he might say something inappropriate :)

I have a sort of selfportrait on my website on the front page. It was drawn quite a while ago and I wanted to change it, because I have changed, my drawing style has evolved, my haircut and hair colour has changed at the end of the day. So, I felt that my self portrait needed updating. To tell you the truth, I don't like drawing myself! I never seem to get it right in my opinion, but I gave it a go one more time just to see what will come out. Here is the result: This is me blogging away surrounded by my favourite characters. What do you think?
Selma Mandine is a brilliant author and illustrator and I absolutely adore her work! She was born and grew up in Hong Kong, but now she lives and works in France. She has quite a few picture books published, the most popular being "Kiss Kiss" I love her illustrations, because they are tasty!!! I don't know how to explain it, but although soft and pastel, they are still bright and vivid at the same time. Her drawings are like sweets! They somehow envelop you with warmth and intricate details. They make you feel cosy:))) But enough talk! Just have a look yourself and let me know what you think!

I have a little drawing I did about 10 years ago. The drawing was not very good, but the idea was funny and I always wanted to play with it a bit, to add mood and atmosphere when I get a chance. When I saw the topic for this week's Illustration Friday - I thought - That's my chance! It's now or never! And although it took me much longer than I anticipated, I am quite happy with the result! Please meet my spring cat chorus! I don't think it gets any more VOCAL than that! And here is the original drawing that served as inspiration:
Do you remember my fat ginger friend Nimbus? I wrote and illustrated a book about him last year. I am redrawing it now, because Nimbus is going to Frankfurt Book Fair - the biggest book fair in the world! And he has to look his best!!!! But at the moment both of us look like this, because we have so much work to do - it is scary!!!
Rob Scotton is brilliant! I think he is, anyway. Here he is: Rob Scotton is a British illustrator, known for his charming series of children’s books about Russell the Sheep and Splat the Cat. His whimsical work also appears on greeting cards, ceramics, textiles and stationery. I am afraid he is a bit of a mistery as I struggled to find any substantial information about him online. His website is a bit painful and I couldn’t find any interesting interviews either. But his drawings and his books are soooo cool! First – they are funny! There is humour in each illustration! Second – I love his style, or rather styles, because there is a huge difference in drawing style between Russell the Sheep and Splat the Cat! But both are extremely charming! But I think pictures will speak louder than words, so enjoy:
elina_ellis - the new blog in LiveJournal. There should be new interesting records soon.

A like drawing fairies... I do believe in miracles and in fairy tales and I want to make sure that my son knows that magic exists... So, just to remind you all about these lovely little creatures, I decided to create a series of drawings showing different fairies that are responsible for different simple things in our lives. Because let's be honest, the real magic always hides in the most obvious every day places! I have already created Book Fairy and Milk Fairy, but this time it was the turn of Jam Fairy!!! And here she is! Isn't she lovely? And since The New Years is almost here, I would like to wish you all the best! May all your dreams come true and your lives become bright examples of the fact, that magic exists!!! I wish you all to be healthy and happy and opened to new ideas and feelings! And I hope that the Fairy of Creativity will always be nearby!See you all in the next year!!
