For thousands of years a beautifully simple but profoundly effective Five Element Theory has been guiding traditional Chinese medicine in the creation of healing medicinal and nutritional recipes. This stems from the relationship of the five elements of nature— earth, metal, water, wood, fire—and the constant interaction among them. According to this theory, health in the human body is a state of balance among these five elements. “Doctors practicing the Five Elements traditional Chinese medicine treat the whole person—mind, body and spirit—in seeking to discover the root of an ailment.

Even though everyone had to learn the periodic table at school, there are probably only a few of us that can still remember more than a few elements, their order, what they actually do and where are they used. So, it’s fair to say that all of us could stand to revise our chemistry knowledge, and this periodic table is absolutely perfect for it. If you've ever wondered where on earth most of these elements can be found in our day to day lives, wonder no more, because engineer Keith Enevoldsen is here to teach us all!

Her work exhibited at the 54th Venice Biennale of Art and more recently with Vogue Italia in Milan, such as "The Owl", together with a few other pieces. Her piece "WOMB" was also exhibited at the Saatchi Gallery in London as a Showdown winner. The artist comes from a ballet and dance-theatre background which amplifies her natural predisposition to work with non-verbal communication. In order to unfold or create a story she listens to the body, observing or molding its subtle language and portraying how it relates itself to other beings and surrounding spaces. Elena's way of composing a picture and working with light is also hugely influenced by her passion for paintings, especially the Old Italian and Dutch Masters. In keeping with her Italian heritage stark chiaroscuro light is a distinguished trait of her work but on moving to Ireland she started to be fascinated by its incredibly soft natural light and she gradually began to incorporate this element into her images.
