Halabessa/Halabisa is a well known Egyptian Chickpeas soup which calls for chickpeas with some simple ingredients. This soup is served with lemon, mostly hot during winter as this soup is very warming, wholesome, nutritious, hearty and comforting while the weather is down. People call this soup as snack soup, since this soup is a savoury drink which is served in glass cup with a spoon and lemon wedge. Actually Egyptian drink this soup and enjoy eating the cooked chickpeas with the spoon given along with the soup. Actually every food stall in Egypt sells this mildly spicy Halabisa during winter as a street food and this soup is also quite popular in Gulf countries especially in Iraq but Iraqian version of this chickpeas soup is cooked without tomatoes. Yes Egyptian version calls for some tomato pieces and tomato paste which gives a pleasant colour to this simple soup. Am running this week's blogging marathon with Chickpeas as dry bean (the star ingredient) of this week. I have been posting many delicious for more than four weeks for this Mega marathon with different dry beans. After dry green peas, dry black-eyed peas, dry black beans, this week's posts are with chickpeas and this Egyptian chickpeas soup is the final post of this week's theme as am running this Mega marathon with 5 ingredients for 5weeks. Actually i used pressure cooking and this works awesome coz the cooking time goes for less time than the original recipes went for. We all know that pressure cooking makes our life easier with less time consuming if you are planning to make this simple soup i'll advise you to go with pressure cooking. We just loved this spicy chickpeas soup for our dinner, with mild cumin flavor and spiciness this soup will definitely keeps you warm. 2cups Soaked chickpeas 1no Onion(chopped finely) 1no Tomato (sliced) 3nos Garlic cloves (minced) 1tbsp Tomato paste 1/4tsp Chilly powder 1tsp Cumin powder Salt Cook the chickpeas in a pressure cooker upto three hisses, put off the stove.
