Just a bit before the turn of the century, women had a new line of Bicycle riding clothes to wear not just for cycling but also for hiking, camping, the gymnasium, and other outdoor sports. They featured oversized bloomers cuffed at the calf. These were the closest things to women's pants that the Victorian era
Decade Lookbook: 1910's Part 2 Fashion from 1910 to 1919 in the Western world was characterized by great opulence in the first half of the decade-- a stark contrast with the somber practicality of garments worn during the Great War, or WWI. Men's pants were worn cuffed to ankle-length and creased. Skirts rose from floor length to well above the ankle and women began to bob their hair. When embarking on an Edwardian era sewing project, it is critical to look at fabrics, colors, and textures to re-create the most authentic outfit possible. Prior to 1910, finding color illustrations or swatches of fabrics is very difficult. My collection is growing, but heavily favors the late teens when color printing was more economical. The

In the Victorian and Edwardian eras, women were enjoying outdoor leisure activities, sports, and travel in specialty designer suits (skirt and jacket sets). Initially, the knickerbocker suit with large bloomer-like pants was the most modest and practical of the sport outfits. Other rainy day walking suits like "rainy daisies" only featured a shorter hemline, whereas

An adorable tiny little antique 925 sterling silver Baby sweetheart brooch. These became popular in the Edwardian era and into the first part of the 20th century. Full UK silver hallmarks for Chester - unfortunately the definition of the marks is poor so it could be one or two different letters - however it definitely dates to the sequence 1903-1925. Given the style of the pin I'd think it's late 1910s or 1920s. It also has a maker's mark A.J.C. for Alfred James Cheshire - this mark was in use 1894-1923 so ties in date-wise. It is of hollow construction so very light. Condition: In good antique condition overall. Very presentable from the front. One or two tiny dings to the edges (one of the marks to the edge is actually an additional lion passant silver impressed mark). The pin has lost a bit of tension but it does hold closed. It's possible the clasp was repaired in the past as the bolt through the hinge looks to be copper.
