What Can You Create With A Cardboard Box? In this project, which serves as a fantastic introduction to project-based learning, students will use 21st century skills to create innovative uses for a cardboard box. They will use creativity and collaboration to brainstorm, plan, and build a box creation with a partner or group. Students will learn to use the critique process to give and receive feedback in order to revise their end product. Finally, pairs will exhibit their creations to an audience of their choosing. Throughout the project students will use the common core speaking, listening and writing standards to clearly communicate their ideas to their group and a real world audience. There are handouts, examples, a reflection, and a rubric included in this lesson. This project is designed to have a structure compatible with implementing PBL in the classroom. Respect.

Soft Start is exactly what it is called: a soft start to the school day. But it is not just an easy transition from home to school. It is an intentional time for students to develop 21st century skills through PLAY! This resources is designed for Upper Elementary Students in Grade 3-7. Here is a bit of the rationale: There is little doubt that this latest trend in education is something that students are desperately in need of. In this day and age, I look at my 10 year old students and think that they have lived their entire life with the existence of smart phones and tablets. The research is only starting to come forward showing the detrimental effects of these devices and the increased amount of time children are spending in front of screens. As teachers, we are on the forefront of this epidemic and our students have been showing much different needs than they were even as little as 10 years ago. The goal of this product is to show you an engaging and simple way to give your students what they need to develop to curb the current trends we are seeing from kids. More information on this theory and how this product was developed. This package contains: • An explanation of of the rationale behind soft start • How to set up this routine in your classroom • Types of Activities that you can use with your students • All the documents you need to make this meaningful and intentional for your students • Activities linking play to 21st century skills • Soft Start Journal pages including: Goal Setting and Reflection Pages Another product to help develop these skills in your classroom: Community Circle: A How to Guide If you are interested in several products in my store but they aren't all a part of a bundle you want, check out how you can order a Custom Bundle with a 20% discount!
