Materials - Size 6 super bulky yarn (40 yards each of brown and white; small amount of yellow) 4.5 mm crochet hook (these are the crochet hooks I use and love!) 12mm safety eyes Scissors Tapestry needle (bent tips work wonders for amigurumi) Stuffing Stitch markers Abbreviations - US terminology SC- Single crochet DC – Double crochet SC INC- Single crochet increase INV DEC- Invisible decrease Blo – Back loop only Ch – Chain Sl st – Slip stitch Rep – Repeat St(s) – Stitch(es) - NOTES - - Eli the Eagle measures approximately 6 inches tall. - Slowly stuff as you go, you want it to be firm but not stretched. You will be working in the round; I like to use a stitch marker at the beginning of each round. - The body and head will be made as one piece. - Yarn used in pictures is Hobbii Toucan in the shades Cappuccino and White. Body- With brown Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC Round 2: SC INC in each st around (12) Round 3: *SC in the first st, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (18) Round 4: *SC in the first 2 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (24) Round 5: *SC in the first 3 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (30) Round 6: *SC in the first 4 sts, SC INC in the next*, *rep around (36) Rounds 7-9: SC around (36) Round 10: *SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (30) Rounds 11-12: SC around (30) Change to white Round 13: *SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (24) Round 14: SC in the Blo (24) Round 15-20: SC around (24) Note - Here is where we will add the facial features before we start closing the head. Insert the eyes between rounds 17 and 18, 4 stitches apart. Beak - With a long strand of yellow yarn, place the beak one row beneath your eyes and one stitch in on each side (this will leave 2 stitches in the middle to create the beak). Pass through 2-3 times. Round 21: *SC in the first 4 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (20) Round 22: *SC in the first 3 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (16) Round 23: *SC in the first 2 sts, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (12) Round 24: *SC in the first st, INV DEC in the next*, *rep around (8) Round 25: INV DEC around (4) Fasten off and sew the remaining part closed, weave in your end. Neck Feathers – With white attach a slip knot to one of the front loops from round 14, this is where we will make our neck feathers. Round 1: Ch 1, *DC, Ch 2, Sl st into the next front loop*, this completes one feather. *Repeat around. Fasten off and weave in your end. Feet – With yellow pass through 2 sts between rounds 5 and 6 keeping in line with the eyes for spacing. Wings – Make 2 With brown (unstuffed) Round 1: Create a magic circle with 6 SC Rounds 2-3: SC around (6) Round 4: SC INC in each st around (12) Round 5: SC around (12) Round 6: INV DEC around (6) Pinch wing flat and SC across the top to close. Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Tail – With white Row 1: Ch 4, SC in the 2nd ch from your hook and in each ch after (3) Row 2: SC across (3) Row 3: Ch 3, Sl st into first st, (this creates first tail feather), rep twice more for a total of 3 feathers Fasten off leaving a long tail for sewing. Assembly – 1. Sew the wings onto the body at round 12. 2. Sew your tail centered on the back at rounds 5-7. Your eagle is complete! I hope you have enjoyed making this pattern.
